We stopped in Belfast, Northern Ireland and I had an amazing day (my poor kiddo was not feeling well due to motion sickness and elected to stay onboard). My family is from Northern Ireland and it was lovely to get back here after 19 years (my honeymoon!).
We took a small tour and went up to the very north coat of Ireland. Our first stop wax my favourite castle… Dunluce castle with the present castle ruins date mainly from the 16th and 17th centuries. This is my 4th visit to the castle and I have such a strong connection to it (I think I was a kitchen maid here in another life!).
On to the Giant's Causeway - a UNESCO site with an area of about 40,000 interlocking basalt columns, the result of an ancient volcanic fissure eruption. The legend has it that an Irish giant named Finn McCool created a causeway to get across the Irish Sea to face his rival, the Scottish giant Benandonner. An alternative version of the story is of Finn building the Causeway for love rather than battle.
Other lively stops to an overlook at White Park Bay (see the beautiful beaches below) and Ballintoy Harbour where the famous ‘Game of Thrones’ TV show filmed some scenes.
A lovely lunch in a wee pub and a quick visit to the Bushmills Distillery - formed in 1784, although the date 1608 is printed on the label of the brand – referring to an earlier date when a royal licence was granted to a local landowner to distil whiskey in the area. I’m not a fan of whiskey but others in the group said it was good.
We had a stop at ‘The Dark Hedges’ which is an avenue of beech trees was planted in 1775. The spellbinding tunnel of ancient beech trees have been used as another filming location for tv series ‘Game of Thrones’ representing the Kingsroad. We ended our day in Belfast with a history of the political and religious conflict of country.
Phew…an amazing day in Northern Ireland!! I love it so much!! ☘️☘️☘️

Next on your whirlwind trip we spent 2 nights in Bruges, Belgium - a UNESCO World Heritage City as it is one of the best preserved medieval cities in the world that was established in the 9th century. Our hotel was in the heart of the old city by The Markt (Market Square) with the Belfry of Bruges and town hall. Brugge is made of cobbled streets and little canals (much like Venice!). We did a city tour and then a canal cruise. Lots of opportunities for shopping and of course the Belgium waffles and chocolate. I could spend a whole week here exploring!!

My daughter and I have been on a whirlwind trip to Europe which started with tickets to see Taylor Swift in Amsterdam! We have also visited Bruges, Belgium and are now on a 12-night Princess cruise to the British Isles. Although this trip has been a “vacation” for us, I also have been using it as an opportunity to research, experience and gather information to better help clients and my VA Travel agents! Many know cruising is my jam and I love the opportunity to experience and explore different cruises and itineraries!!

My last post about my Virgin Voyages cruise…plus my review!

Another lovely day in on Virgin Voyages.
We had a stop in Costa Maya, Mexico. I’m going to be honest that it’s not my favourite port. I have been before and it’s kind of “manufactured” with not a lot of authentic culture. We walked around the port to look at some shops but got back onboard quickly.
Time in the ship pool (drink in hand of course!).
Another fun activity was “Bingo with the Diva”. The Diva is the resident Drag Queen onboard. She was awesome…talented, funny and a great host. She put on a great show while we played bingo!
A day capped off with a fun evening at a dinner show!

Part of Virgin Voyages is the food experiences and it did not disappoint! Unlike many cruise lines, there is no traditional “buffet” but rather “The Galley” boasts a dedicated bakery and pastry shop, a panini shop, a burger grill, a taco shack, a sushi bar with bento boxes, a noodle bar, a soup and salad stand, and a 24-hour American diner!
All dining restaurants onboard (like specialty restaurants) are included in your price and there is no “main dining room”. We loved Gunbae which is the Korean BBQ restaurant where they grill your meat & seafood at the table! We even got to play a Korean drinking game. So yummy. 😋
Our second favourite was Test Kitchen where a set menu of interesting and diverse ingredients were present in interesting ways! Like the plate with the corn on it was actually a corn spread that was shaped like a cob. All of the food was great!
We also had brunch at the Wake restaurant with eggs Benedict. Check out the view…the wake of the ship!
All of the food was amazing and they were great at accommodating food preferences and my food allergies!!
