Just stepped out of London and landed in Canada.
It’s a lovely place. Friendly people.
I came in with just one bag and a few clothes.
Check in was so straight forward; probably the quickest Iv ever had since I was traveling without luggage.
It seems I was the only Nigerian on this flight to Montreal as well. I assume most others would be traveling straight from Nigeria not from Heathrow.
The process at immigration was seamless.
I had my COPR and all documents. They didn’t need all the others. Apparently I just wasted paper printing WES, health certificate, blah blah blah;
But ofcourse, better safe than sorry. Lol.
“Why canada?” The officer asked.
“I beg your pardon?”
“What brings you to canada?” He rephrased.
“Oh okay. I’m looking to possibly migrate here.”
He looks at my passport and boarding pass and directs me to a place called Immigration 2.
Finally I get there- that’s where the other immigrants are and more of what I expected to see. Chinese, French, Mexicans, blacks, Asians etc. Many families as well. 2 or three Nigerians.
At this point, I start realizing that more people may be flowing into the UK for study than are flowing into Canada for Express entry.
But that is just my opinion without much data to back it up.
They are processing immigrants side by side with students and work permits. They do this if it’s your first time in Canada.
The time for my connecting flight to Toronto is running close. I got my number at 5:15 and my flight is for 6pm.
I signal to an officer. “Excuse me, hi…sorry to bother but I have a 6pm flight to Toronto and I’m wondering if this process will be fast enough for me to catch it.”
He tells me unfortunately I will have to miss my flight as this takes priority but I can rebook the next flight. I’m upset, but calm.
Finally my number comes up. The immigration officer is a Carribean woman- I can tell by her slight accent. This makes me happy. I love Jamaicans and west-indians.
