The Fiordland National Park is a 1.2 million-hectare wildlife conservatory composed of mountains, ice carved fiords, forests, lakes, and valleys. The park is located on the South Island of New Zealand and was established in 1952. Tourists already in the country should not miss visiting this place, not only for its enchanting view of the wilderness, but also for the many one-of-a-kind experiences that it offers. New Zealand has over 14 national parks, of which The Fiordland is the largest. If you have ever seen the Lord of the Rings cinematic trilogy, then you have a pretty good idea of the view that you’ll get to enjoy when visiting Fiordland National Park, as this island country was where most of the filming was done.

Queenstown comes by its “Adventure Capital of the World” title honestly. This is a place where preferred modes of transportation include jet boats, gondolas, helicopters, and paragliders – and “Would you like to bungee today?” is standard hotel concierge small talk. Throw in the nearby Central Otago wine region, The Remarkables mountain range, and Fiordland National Park – home to Milford Sound, one of New Zealand’s most visited natural attractions – and the moniker feels like a no-brainer. The South Island city is more than just a gateway to the natural wonders that lie beyond, with a vibrant, walkable downtown that packs an impressive amount of appeal into its few square miles. Spring (September through November) promises mild temperatures, cherry blossoms blooming on Lake Wakatipu’s shores, and fewer crowds – which means even more wine and bungee jumping for visitors.

What’s at Tamaki Maori Village?

Just 15 minutes south of Rotorua you will find Tamaki Maori Village – a recreation of a pre-European Maori Village. Set up in 1989 by two young Maori brothers, Tamaki Village is now a thriving attraction which is popular with visitors to Rotorua both from New Zealand and overseas.

Set in a beautiful natural forest environment, the village runs like a Maori village would have hundreds of years ago. The village comes alive at night time and the evening experience is one of our favourites. You will be collected from Lake Rotorua Hotel or Four Canoes Hotel and taken out to the village where you will be welcomed in the traditional form of a Maori Powhiri.

The experience is very interactive and great for all ages – it’s a real insight into ancient Maori life and traditions. Your tour group will be asked to select a tribe leader for the night and they will join in with the traditional welcome and activities throughout the evening.

Move over mud pools, forget the luge - and look up - because the best family fun in Rotorua is in the trees. The Redwoods Treewalk is a 700-metre suspended boardwalk through the city's much-loved Whakarewarewa Forest - known to most as simply 'The Redwoods'. The forest dates back to 1901; it was an experiment to see how exotic species would grow. Now, 118 years later, it's a 5600-hectare park with popular mountain biking and walking tracks. In 2016, the tree walk was added, complete with 28 suspension bridges.

The Vieux-Salins d’Hyeres salt marshes sit just below sea level with a stretch of vital but shifting sand beach that separates them from the open sea.

“The coastline was receding with each winter storm,” said wetlands expert Guirec Queffeulou, who helps manage the site located in the heart of the Cote d’Azur, the tourist-clogged French Mediterranean coast.

Conservationists acquired the site through legal wrangling in the late 1990s after the former owner,

Rotorua is a fabulous place to visit in New Zealand. But beware, there is SO MUCH to do, it’s definitely worth spending quite a few days here. While many parts of New Zealand appear to be straight out of Middle Earth. Rotorua is not. One thing you may notice is the smell. Don’t get me wrong it is a clean and lovely town, but its proximity to the sulphur pools and geysers make it rather….fragrant. But don’t worry we actually acclimatized quite quickly. On your way to Rotorua, if coming from Auckland, don’t forget to leave time to visit Hobbiton in Mata Mata.
