The ancient city of Rome is bursting with history, architecture, great restaurants, and so much more. To satisfy all your pasta, pizza, wine & gelato cravings, Italy’s capital is a must visit. When in Rome, be sure to experience these can’t miss places!
1️⃣ Vespa Tour
What better way to see the highlights of Rome than by riding a Vespa through the crowded streets? Channel your inner “Roman Holiday” and cruise the major sights of Italy’s capital via motorized scooter. You’ll stop for some brief history as you journey to the top of the Janiculum Hill for a panoramic view of the city. This tour isn’t for the faint of heart as traffic can be very a little crazy. However, a Sunday afternoon ride was perfect as the streets were slightly less crowded. Prior scooter experience is required, but with some practice & tips from our guide, it was the perfect balance of information and adrenaline. Book with for an unforgettable experience.
2️⃣ Colosseum
It’s amazing to walk through the nearly 2,000 year old stadium that held the famed gladiator games. Book a skip-the-line tour as you’ll have a much better experience than waiting in long lines to exchange your ticket voucher. Paying a little more for an expert guide is worth it. Don’t forget to include Palatine Hill & the Roman Forum. We booked through and enjoyed a slow-paced tour with our well-informed guide. Views inside the Colosseum are incredible, but after exiting, take a short walk up Giardinetto del Monte Oppio for the perfect photo of the exterior.
3️⃣ Trevi Fountain
Cue the tape for every Rom-Com that’s ever been set in Rome. This colossal fountain speaks for itself. Get up early and arrive before 7AM to beat the throngs of tourists. Nab a corner for the perfect photo & be sure to have some coins to toss in (as legend holds that those who throw coins in Trevi Fountain will return to Rome). If your wife makes you takes 10 boomerangs of her doing this, just accept it as another Roman tradition.
4️⃣ Trastevere Neighborhood
When visiting any city, I always consider which neighborhood best fits what we’re looking for. For quaint cafes, bustling nightlife & an excellent food scene, stay in Trastavere. Although slightly further walk to some major sights (25 minutes to the Colosseum & Trevi Fountain), the buzzy vibes in Trastavere are worth the extra steps. Some added exercise didn’t hurt after several days worth of pasta & wine. For the traditional Roman pasta dish of Cacio é Pepe (cheese & pepper), Trattorio da Augusto is the choice of the locals who reside in Trastavere. After the most authentic meal we had in Italy, I would have to agree.
5️⃣ Pantheon
The Pantheon’s iconic pillars tower over the Piazza della Rotonda. Originally built to honor the Roman gods, the present-day church offers a great place to stop for an appetizer or lunch with an iconic view of Ancient Rome. Located in the city center, there’s plenty of umbrellas to relax under and pass the time as you recoup your energy for your next Roman escapade. Don’t forget to grab some gelato on the way to your next landmark.
