A few of our friends have already booked for the 2021 season! Based on our experience, many of our guests enjoy getting feedback about local attractions and "things to do" while staying at Crescent's Nook. Well, I've done the homework for you! Here you go....
Here are some helpful suggestions of things to do during your stay to make the most of your time. Feel free to research these options ahead of time before you arrive. You can put these locations in Google Maps or GPS from the house. One of our favorite local towns is Belfast which is a cute, waterfront downtown about 15 minutes away. It has waterfront restaurants, shops and it overlooks the bay. We love Delvino's for dinner and the Chocolate Drop Candy Shop for dessert! For casual fare, stop for an awesome hot dog at Wasses in Belfast for lunch! There is also a Dairy Queen, McDonald's and Hannaford's in Belfast and Bucksport for bigger shopping. Local, smaller grocery shopping closer to the house is Tozier's in Searsport or Swan Lake Grocery in Swanville. A local pizza place we usually order from is Dinos in Searsport. There is a Dunkin Donuts/gas station also on Main St. in Searsport. Do you want great lobster and a cool experience? Eat at Young's Lobster Pound in Belfast overlooking the Penobscot Bay. You can choose your own lobster from their 30,000 lb aquarium. Also, check out a few fun, local things to do: Visit the Penobscot Bridge and Observatory (tallest public bridge observatory in the world) for amazing 360 degree views of Penobscot Bay, or take a drive into Searsport and head down to Mosman Park for a picnic lunch on the water. There are other coastal towns for a nice day trip: Heading south on Route 1--Belfast, Northport, Camden, Rockport, Rockland, Damariscotta, Boothbay Harbor; Heading north on Route 1---Ellsworth, Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor. For the more adventurous, travel to the great Northern Maine woods for a day (leave early it's over an hour and a half from Searsport but worth the drive), stopping at Lily Bay State Park (breathtaking views of Moosehead Lake from the beach) in the morning and then have a late lunch at Kelly's Landing and watch the float planes take off and land as you enjoy! After your late lunch/ early dinner, drive up to the logging roads in Kokadjo and wait until dusk to try catch a glimpse of a moose at Lazy Tom Bog or the Department of Transportion hub (park on side of the road) in Shirley on the way back! For the ultra-adventurous, head up to Baxter State Park/Mt. Katahdin via the Golden Rd. Be sure to fill up your gas tank in Greenville though and have a spare tire. The roads can be rough. There are no gas stations on the logging roads. It's an adventure, for sure! Oh, I almost forgot--if you just want a simple day to relax, stay home at Crescent's Nook! Rest on the hammock, fish on the pond, kayak downstream, read a good book, or enjoy the fire pit while making S'mores and listening to the loons on the pond. Don't forget to take the memories with you!
Please enjoy your stay,
Danny & Gigi Gallagher
