Love 💕 the name of this business on Roman Road, which I thought referred to the 17th century ballad of the Blind Beggar of Bethnal Green- until I realised that it is a popular names for barbers elsewhere too! There are also several Blind Barber shops in the US, which cut hair in the shops at the front but also offer a speakeasy-style cocktail parlour at the back. There the name is a nod to the officials turning a blind eye to venues with alcohol during Prohibition! And it was the name of a 1934 whodunnit by John Dickson Carr. What is all in a name!
I have been to this in past years and so can attest that it is a lot of fun 🤩
The true cockney spirit lives on.

Great article!
With the capital's tower blocks pivoting from social housing to status symbols, what does that mean for council tenants trying to keep communities together?
Great museum!
Geffrye museum, Kingsland road, London, 1968.
In 1968, an interesting fact about the Geffrye Museum on Kingsland Road, London, is that it was still primarily focused on showcasing the evolution of English domestic interiors from the 17th century onwards. The museum, originally established in 1914, was housed in the Grade I-listed almshouses built in 1714 by the Ironmongers' Company.
During this period, the museum's unique period room displays allowed visitors to step back in time and experience the living conditions and domestic arrangements of different eras, providing a vivid illustration of the changing tastes and lifestyles of the English middle classes over the centuries. This approach made the Geffrye Museum a pioneer in presenting social history through immersive, tangible exhibits.

Behind the scenes, agencies are almost giving away tickets to West End plays and arena tours with struggling sales. Is it the dream gig for a last-minute punter?
Have a pressing matter to discuss with the PM? Just stop by and knock… at the doppelgänger door just off of the Strand. Come tour with me for fun and quirky as well as the traditional sights!

If you didn’t manage to nab tickets for Centre Court, fear not, because we’ve rounded up the best pubs and outdoor screens (many of which are free to attend) where you can watch the tennis this year – hopefully, you’ll catch a few rays too.
