Happy Family Day everyone!
I made it home safe and sound and am finally organized enough to send out the first group email. I am very glad I made the trip to Wainwright as I was able to accomplish many things wonderful things!
What I needed to do was secure at least 1 landowner or leaseholder, within 800 meters of the project, to file a complaint by the end of my trip. I was able to do this with some other concerned citizens as a bonus!
Because we have 2 bordering landowners now registered (and I think 2 more to come this week as I start making calls tomorrow morning), any neighbors beyond the 800m can now join the group and have a say.
I am including the complaint, called a SIP (like the drink you take), that was filed for Garth Arneson so you can see an example of what can be said and what needs to be said about this project. (SIP is short for Statement of Intent to Participate). I wrote all the content so we can use it as an example of what everyone can write. There are no rules against copying here!
In order to file a SIP, you will need an account on the AUC eFiling system and then need to file the complaint after that is all set up. I can help you with both of those things over the phone taking up only about 15-20 minutes.
In order to file a SIP, you will need:
your name
your phone number
mailing address
L*D of nearby property and approximate distance to the project boundary
-to state your reasons why you oppose this application
-to state how this project affects you or your neighbors or the natural area of Wainwright Dunes and David Lake
- state how you would like to participate in this process and why (for example: share written evidence, share pictures as evidence, speak during the oral hearing, submit only the complaint and nothing more)
So, if you can please spread this message to as many people as possible as quickly as possible, we can get our people signed up and begin preparing for the next steps of this process... asking the developer a long list of questions about their application and reports (Information Requests).
Our lawyer, Richard Secord, is included on this email. He is from the law firm, Ackroyd LLP, in Edmonton. He and his team of experts and legal colleagues were critical to the win my community had against a solar project in Blackie. You can read a bit more about the firm and Richard here:

I'd like to keep this relatively short so I will end here. If you have any questions AT ALL, please send them to me anytime, day or night, and I'll do my best to get back to you right away! Thank you for being part of the group and for standing up to Westbridge & Dolcy.
