Akbar Municipality, officially known as the Municipality of Akbar, is located in the province of Basilan, Philippines. It was created through Muslim Mindanao Autonomy Act No. 193 on December 20, 2005. The municipality is composed of nine barangays, including one island barangay, with a total area of 38.76 square kilometers. The name "Akbar" is derived from Imam Akbar Marani, a renowned Islamic preacher and descendant of Kuddarat, who settled in the area in the 17th century and later migrated to Central Mindanao.

The award recieved by the Local Chief Executive himself, Honorable Mayor Alih A. Sali on December 18, 2020 at SKCC, BARMM Compound, Cotabato City.
