As a Japan travel specialist with an intense passion for history, building itineraries that include Hiroshima just hit a little different.

Though it may be a more melancholy experience, no trip to this city feels complete without seeing the A-Bomb Dome and visiting the Peace Memorial Museum & Park. As UNESCO World Heritage Sites, they strive to consistently advocate for world peace and to keep alive the legacy of those lost in the infamous nuclear attack of WWII.
•
When Chris K***t and I visited in 2019 (exactly five years ago today!), we balanced out this heavy experience by taking a side trip to Miyajima. My clients liked this recommendation and will be doing the same thing!

One of my favorite places in the world, Miyajima is home to Itsukushima Shrine, Omotesando Shotengai, and some of the friendliest deer around! Plus, Momiji manjū, the local dessert speciality, makes the perfect souvenir to enjoy on the ferry ride back to Hiroshima 🍁⛩️🦌
