The current movement and related protests are taking over the globe in various forms of solidarity because its messages also hit home with most other minority and oppressed groups of people.

The missing and murdered Indigenous women (MMIW) epidemic currently affects Indigenous peoples in Canada and the United States. Since 2016 there have been close to 6,000 incidents of missing & murdered Native American women and 84% of Native American women have experienced violence in their lifetime. These issues have occurred since 1492 when Indigenous women and girls first started being targeted by settler colonizers and were subjected to r**e, violence, and human trafficking.

The mural above, by La Morena, was done to honor the thousands of women cases whom the government has failed to investigate. Arizona in particular has the third-highest number of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls in the country, according to a 2017 study from Urban Indian Health.

Lucinda (La Morena) is Xicana, Pima, Apache and Yaqui Decent. She is a self-taught nationally known muralist and painter. Lucinda advocates through her work on issues regarding Immigration, Community, Feminism and Spirituality. [Edited post content taken from https://www.instagram.com/artnocube/. We all have a right to life, to the kind of life that isn’t limited by systems of oppression or access to basic universally shared resources (i.e. food, clean water, medicine) and to live it in a way that doesn’t cause emotional or physical harm to others.

“I've been searching for a long time for an alternative to riots on the one hand and timid supplication for justice on the other and I think that alternative is found in militant massive non-violence.” [Photo taken in Selma, AL, in 1965. Love comes in many languages, shapes, and colors. While we watch the news, dive into our social media feeds, and converse with friends and family, witnessing and discussing various forms of disagreement, anger, hate, and fear, let us remember that at the most basic level we all strive for good health, happiness, comfort and love. And that we all should want that for all human beings, regardless of our differences, and demand nothing less.
