BUILDING BUNKIES IN BRIGHTON ⚒️

LEGO meets IKEA at The Bunkie Co., a boutique bunkie manufacturing company located north of the 401 in Brighton, Ontario. Founded by Evan Bare, an accomplished designer in the Industrial Design furniture realm, the concept of The Bunkie Co. was powered by Evan's desire to apply techniques and methods of furniture production methods to an architectural scale.

Small spaces and sustainability are at the heart of The Bunkie Co. with every detail, from start to finish, considered to maximize space and customer experience. Each bunkie begins as a digital rendering in engineering/design program, AutoCAD. These designs are then uploaded to a giant CNC (computer numerical control) router that cuts cross-laminated plywood to the specifications with near-perfect accuracy. The individual pieces are then partially assembled, packaged into kits, and sold.

Evan, and his small but mighty team, team build between 20 and 50 bunkies per year depending on demand. Each bunkie takes approximately a week to go from raw material to assembled prefab kit, ready to ship. Once the bunkies have arrived at their final destination, it takes a week or two for assembly. The kit comes with IKEA-like, step-by-step instructions and results with each pre-fab component fitting together like a giant LEGO kit.

BE PERSONALLY PREPARED: WHAT TO EXPECT IN BRIGHTON ON APRIL 8TH 🌕

We're under a week away from the Total Solar Eclipse in Brighton! The current long-range forecast indicates the 8th will see a high of 12 degrees and be sunny meaning we could be in for a real show!

Total solar eclipses are truly spectacular events with many people from all over the world traveling each year to communities along the path of totality to view them. Being one of the communities along the route, and based on the experiences of other communities who have previously experienced this event, we could see a surge in Brighton’s population in the days before the event, followed by a sudden exit of visitors following the event.

This staggered population influx followed by immediate dispersal has the potential to cause traffic snarls along key routes, especially the 401, and shortages of fuel and supplies as the demand suddenly increases.

While we can't predict the total number of people who may find themselves viewing the eclipse from Brighton or passing through on the day of, we can encourage residents to BE PREPARED by…
⛽ filling up their vehicles with extra gasoline,
🛒 purchasing a few extra supplies a few days ahead of the event,
🛣️ having an alternative route planned to get home should main roadways be congested and,
👀 being aware of the event and having a viewing plan.

We, along with our local and regional partners, are preparing by:
✅ creating awareness for the event and educating the public on potential situations that could arise as a result,
✅ staging emergency response vehicles at key areas to ensure our response times remain as fast as possible and,
✅ having Public Works crews ready to help direct traffic at congested intersections.
