Nohkalikai Falls is a popular tourist destination located near Cherrapunji in the Indian state of Meghalaya. It is the tallest plunge waterfall in India, with a height of 1,115 feet (340 meters). The waterfall is surrounded by lush green forests and offers breathtaking views of the landscape.
Legend has it that the waterfall is named after a woman named Ka Likai who jumped off the cliff next to the waterfall, after discovering that her second husband had killed and cooked her daughter from her first marriage. The name "Nohkalikai" means "Jump of Ka Likai" in the local Khasi language.
The best time to visit Nohkalikai Falls is during the monsoon season, which is from June to September, as the waterfall is at its full flow during this time. However, it is important to note that the weather in the region can be unpredictable and the roads leading to the waterfall can be treacherous, so it is important to take necessary precautions while traveling.
