New departure date: January 15th, 2021. Los Angeles has ordered a "stay at home" recommendation. I will follow this advise. So Baja 101 won't depart Ensenada on December 15, 2020.

Cabo San Lucas

Decided to wander down to Cabo San Lucas. From Santa Rosalia I’ll head south in my RV towards Loreto, then La Paz and the Cabos. I’ll stay on paved roads. Boondock where I want. I have friends in Cabo San Lucas. But, that’s another story?

My Compadre will ride as my passenger from L.A. to Cabo San Lucas. One way trip. He won’t drive back to L.A. with me.

I’m open to a female passenger from Cabo San Lucas, Mx, “up” (north) the Baja Peninsula, to Los Angeles, Ca. Split cost. About 10 day trip. But plan for two weeks. 14 days. Sleeping areas curtained off. I can pick passenger up at Cabo San Lucas airport on specific date (different rules when flying). I plan to return to the birthing lagoons (better time of year), possibly the “caves” in the Vizcaino Reserve, on the return trip.

Prefer to meet for coffee before any commitments. Meet in Los Angeles. Thinking about being in Cabo San Lucas for New Years. Be in L.A. first week of December.

Ready to cross the border? Gas? Cross the border with a full tank of petrol/gas.

In Mexico the major gas stations are the PEMEX gas stations (amongst others). Know how many gallons or liters will go into your gas tank(s). Keep alert as to the number of liters that are pumped into your vehicle. Don’t pay for liters which exceed your tank?

In Mexico all gas stations will have gas attendants. You do not pump gas into your own vehicle. After pulling up to a pump and stopping your vehicle, a “gas attendant” will ask you what’s needed (normally dressed in uniform). After salutations, you say:

“YenO” (fill er up), or the amount you want to pay? Two thousand Pesos, ect. “Dos mil pesos de verde”. “Verde” is regular gas. Verde is green and high unleaded octane is Azul or Blue. “Verde, Azul or Deesil”.

Change U.S. Dollars for Mexican Pesos BEFORE you cross U.S./MEX border.

Ask? Before gas is pumped into your tank “ask” if payment can be made by a debit card? If “machine” is working?

Why? Because if pumped gas cannot be paid for (however), be assured that you will not be permitted to depart before payment or return of the gas.

Whether you agree with my recommendations, or not, Think about having the cost of gas in pesos. How many pesos do you or your passengers have with you? How much does it cost to fill your gas tank? Carry this amount in pesos in your peso pouch.

In the event you are unable to pay by debit card, always carry enough pesos to pay for a tank of gas.

Baja 101
In December 2020, starting at San Diego, Ca., I offer a RV caravan on the Baja Peninsula free of charge. No night driving. From Ensenada, B.C. we caravan to the mid-way RV park, thereafter to a Negro Guerrero RV park where the gray whales birthing lagoons are in the “El Viscaino Biospere Reserve”. We caravan to Sierra De San Francisco and the UNESCO Rock Paintings. There after to Santa Rosalia on Sea of Cortez. I won’t travel further south but you can drive to end of Peninsula without a visa (I write of this). The caravan in 2020 is without charge. Free.

This is a paid 70 day RV caravan to Latin America. It departs from Ensenada, B.C., Mexico on November 30, 2021. It cost $10,000 per RV. Total 12 RVs with Wagon Master and Tail Gunner. If cost is an issue, follow my suggestions found herein and drive alone.

RV CARAVAN TO LATIN AMERICA

For people who know me? Also, for those who don’t.

My demographic is “persons who like to travel”. I’ve been sidelined for a number of years, but I’m ready to travel, again!

In the interim I have prepared a RV caravan which starts in Dec 2021. 70 day RV caravan tour. Each night of the 70 days you can sleep in your RV, at a RV park/accommodation. No night driving planned.

It starts and finishes in Ensenada,B.C., Mx. (80 miles from San Diego, CA) It will travel on Baja Peninsula, the Mexican mainland to Guatemala and Belize, and back on a different “route”.

I will lead caravan as wagon master. 10 other RVs, plus the tail gunner. Total 12. Convenience for all is reason for 12 max. Full stop.

The caravan provides a solution for Europeans who receive an annual vacation of 6 weeks.

It’s an adventure!

I will open a page, titled “RV Caravan to Latin America”.

I approach this as a job (though enjoyable) with responsibilities. I bring my 50 years of experience traveling by vehicle in this part of the world. As your wagon master I will share my knowledge with members of the caravan. I will make this tour, this adventure, interesting!
