Headig to Oslo? A great way to travel around in the city is with public transportation. I especially like the tram. 🥰
However, it’s not called tram in Norwegian...Check out the video to see what the locals call it and how you can use it to do some sightseeing.

Biking with Rick Steves in Oslo
Rick Steves and I rented bikes to explore the harbor front of Oslo. These are City Bikes which you can pick up for a low cost all over town!
We had such a fun day biking along the fjord making a few stops along the way. Hint: Medieval fortress, food market and Edvard Munch 😱
I hope you enjoy this little video I clipped together of Rick and I.
If you want to support my work you can Enlist as a Viking on my Patreon-account to get early access, behind the scenes material and much more! Tusen takk, thank you 👊

Fjord Cruise in Oslo with Rick Steves
A few weeks ago Rick Steves came to Oslo and I had the pleasure of spending a full day with him! 🤩
We decided to start off our day with a cruise on the Oslo Fjord, and a visit to the Hovedøya island to see a couple of the sights out there + my sailboat ⛵️
We both had Oslo passes, which includes unlimited public transportation on buses, trams, metro and harbor ferries. So there is actually no need to pay for an expensive cruise when you can do a public one for "free". I write "free" because you'll need to buy the pass, but the pass is also good for all the museums in Oslo 👍
The main goal of the day together with Rick was to update the Rick Steves Scandinavia Guidebook, but Rick was generous to let me do some filming along the way, so here's a little fjord cruise video that I put together for you all.
Make sure to try out this fjord cruise when you visit Oslo. For the same one hop on the "B1 Øyene" ferry, and you can decide wether you just stay on for a one hour roundtrip, or hop off at the Hovedøya Island before hopping on the B1 again ⛴
Enjoy!

The Norwegian National Anthem
Hei hei!
Two days ago the 17th of May National Day Celebration took place in Norway.
Here's a clip from in front of the Royal Palace early in the day. The Royal Family has come out on the balcony and the people are singing the National Anthem "Ja, vi elsker dette landet". 🇳🇴
The National Anthem is eight verses long, but they don't sing all of them, only the first, seventh and number eight.
When the video zooms in you can see from left to right: Crown Princess Mette Marit, Prince Sverre, Crown Prince Haakon, Queen Sonja and King Harald V.
You might notice that Princess Ingrid Alexandra (our future Queen) is missing, but she was given the day off to celebrate her high school graduation with friends 🥳
Thanks to my friend Skypp for sharing this clip with me. I'll be sharing more clips on my Patreon-site, so feel free to enlist as a Viking and enjoy more from the 17th of May Parade in Oslo 🥰 This is also a great way to support my work. Tusen takk!

The Vigeland Sculpture Garden in Oslo covered in snow
Hei hei! A couple of weeks ago before I went to London there was a pretty heavy snowfall in Oslo ❅
I took the trikk (tram) to the Frogner park the next morning, and did a little walk in the sculpture garden there aka. the Vigeland Installation.
It was such a beautiful morning with all the sculptures decorated with a white layer of snow. I think this park must be one of my favorite sights in Oslo, and perhaps in all of Norway 🤩
Perhaps you've been, or are thinking of going?
Anyways, I hope you'll enjoy this little video. If you like what I do consider pledging your support on Patreon, where you'll get behind the scenes content and more VLOGs.

Speaking Norwegian in Oslo
Hei hei! Some of you have asked me lately if I could make a video where I speak a bit Norwegian. And of course!
So I did a little recording down by the waterfront of Oslo today. I also added a bit of history. As a tour guide I always enjoy teaching whenever I can 😅
Perhaps you've been to this same spot in Oslo?
I mention a couple of YouTube-episodes, and here are the links if you'd like to check them out:

Norwegian Cabin Words
#norwegian #norwegianlanguage Hei hei! Some of you asked if I could do the pronunciation of the hytteord (cabin words) that I posted the other day.
Here's a video that I hope will help you out! 🤗
Hytte - Cabin
Hyttetur - A trip to the cabin
A word you will often hear at a workplace in Norway on a Friday. Jeg skal på hyttetur i helga. I'm going on a trip to the cabin this weekend 👍
Hyttedrøm - A dream cabin
The cabin that you dream about owning or spending time at 🤩
Hyttebok - Cabin book
When your visit is over you write in this book so that the next person can read about your stay. After a while this book becomes a real treasure of old cabin stories and memories 🌟
Hyttetyv - A person who breaks into a cabin
This does not happen often, but occasionally it does. (knock wood)
Hyttepåske - Easter at the Cabin
Norwegians love to go to their hytte during påske (Easter). So much that it's become a term. I år blir det hyttepåske. This year we're spending Easter at the cabin 🐣
Firmahytte - Corporation cabin
Many corporations in Norway own cabins that their employees can use.
Turisthytte - Tourist cabin
This is a hytte that any tourist can rent. You either rent the entire cabin, or share it with others. The Norwegian Trekking Association got plenty of turisthytter that are available to the public by paying a fee. A perfect opportunity for experiencing some hytteliv next time you visit Norway 🇳🇴

Norway with Pål on Rick Steves show
Wow! I knew Rick Steves was going to feature one of my episodes on the Grand Finale of his Festival of Europe Show, but I did not know he would give such a kind description of me and my niece Kornelia 🥰
I've worked for Rick for almost 10 years now, leading tours and working with his travel books. This continues to be a very important and rewarding part of my life, and I can't wait for the next 10! 😁
You can see the full Grand Finale and all of the episodes from the Festival of Europe here: https://www.youtube.com/@RickStevesTravelTalks
The episode he chose to feature is the one where we make pannekaker...pancakes.. not waffles ;)... You can find it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tocwLp8tEQE

Norway with Pål on Patreon
hei hei! In this video I share just a few words about my new Patreon account 🥳
Check out my Patreon account here: https://www.patreon.com/norwaywithpal/
For years I’ve been sharing my passion for Norway with curious followers from all over the world. I post on my page and Instagram and I have a YouTube channel where I post videos all about Norway. I also have my Norway with Pål website where I post articles about food, language and travel advice for Norway.
This is something I do on the side whenever I find time between tour guiding and other work. Up to now I have been doing this for free, purely for the fun of it; I really enjoy all the interactions I have had with many of you!
By starting a Patreon account I want to take Norway with Pål a step further and offer you something more. I would like to spend even more time sharing the natural beauty, the history, and the culture of Norway. I would like to spend more time sharing my guiding knowledge and my expert travel advice. This way, you can make the most of your own travels to my beautiful country. Or if you’re not able to travel just now, I invite you to explore Norway virtually, with me as your guide.
To help make this possible, I’m inviting you to become a patron of mine. Doing so, you will be directly supporting my work at Norway with Pål and making it possible for me to put even more time into sharing Norway with you.
On Patreon I can offer you exclusive access to behind-the-scenes photos and videos from my life here in Norway. I'll cover things such as Norwegian food, history, language, art, traditions, travel and so on.
Creating this content takes time. Patreon is a service that makes it possible for you to support the creators that you love. I hope I can be one of them. So, join me and let’s explore Norway together.
Tusen takk! Thanks a lot!
