Winery Mas que Vinos in Cabañas de Yepes. From the moment you arrive, you feel that the place is special. Excellent wines and excellent friends.

May showed us the old cellar in the family home, where the La Plazuela wine barrels are located, and they still keep the old clay jars or anforas and whatever is necessary to make wine as it was done in the past.

We continue with a walk to enjoy the impressive views of the vineyards, in El Horcajo state, very close to the winery, at an altitude of 750m. All with organic farming.

May, Gonzalo and Alexandra make a ton of different wines, and all of them have its place. Wines with a lot of personality, very carefully elaborated. Super fresh airén from old vineyards, malvar, carbonic maceration, cencibel and garnacha, la Plazuela, etc. They even make Almodovar wine (Peeeeedro, the movie maker)

Also cornicabra oil, always present in this area of Spain.

A trip to another Mancha, with well-made wines, respecting the personality of the vineyard and the purity and quality of the wine and giving value to this area not so much known. Wine has always been part of the economic engine of the region. Vine, olive and almond trees. .

Our first 2 were of Ribera del Duero from Valladolid and of Rioja from the Ghery-designed hotel, 2016. We did a tour of Penedes from Barcelona with a very close couple, 2020. This trip we again did day tours of Ribera del Duero from Valladolid and of Rioja from the Gehry-designed hotel. In consultation with Yolanda of Cristina’s team we chose to visit different wineries than on our previous visits except that we again asked to have lunch with wine pairings at Baigorri. We enjoyed it very much on our first visit, no less the second. Each tour has been excellent. The five guides we have had have been locals to the respective areas and knowledgeable about not only the areas in terms of wine, but also in terms of history. Spanish history is incredibly interesting and in many ways tied to wine production. We hope to tour Priorat or perhaps Jumilla on our next trip with the Rutas de Vino team. Cristina Alonso, Vintage Spain owner and CEO, started in the world of wine tourism in 2003, with the creation of the company Rutas de Vino, the first travel agency specialized in wine tourism in Spain.

Industrial engineer, with a PhD in environmental engineering, she spent seven years studying and working in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA. She loves wine and travel so once she came back to Spain, she switched to the world of wine and started organizing private tours in Spain for foreign visitors. Since then she has not stopped innovating and expanding the wine tourism offer in our country.

Cristina was born in Burgos and now she lives between Madrid and Miranda de Ebro, ten minutes from Haro, the wine capital of Rioja. Her grandfather and uncle were wine traders in Ribera del Duero and her family always bought the wine directly from the winery. So wine and wine regions are something she knows very well. Do you know that Cristina also has a winery? She is also President of the Spanish Association of Wine and Gastronomic Tourism.

Vintage Spain – Rutas de Vino is a family company specialized in organizing upscale gourmet wine tours and gastronomic vacations in Spain and Portugal.
