I moved to San Diego, CA from Cologne, Germany in March 2012 to complete my Bachelor of Science in Management degree. I decided to stay longer and also graduated with an MBA. During my studies I lived in PB (Pacific Beach) and met my husband Nathan from Missouri who was stationed in San Diego with the military during that time. Nathan is currently serving as Naval Surface Warfare Officer in the U.S. Navy. We got married in February 2014 and purchased our first house together in Dictionary Hills, Spring Valley, CA where we started hosting with Airbnb after remodeling the entire house. Our son Derek was born in the summer of 2015 and lived with us in our first house until March 2016 when the Navy brought us together as a family to tropical Guam where we lived for a little over a year. Derek took his first steps along the beaches of Guam and had fun chasing after wild chickens, roosters and pigs. During our time on Guam, we traveled to Germany, Thailand and several different states in the U.S. In March 2018 ( I guess we always move in March) we moved back to San Diego, CA and couldn’t have been more excited for it as we had just sold our house in the hills and found the perfect new home for our son to grow up in - now in a much more central location, Serra Mesa, San Diego, CA. This time we didn’t have to remodel it ourselves as an investor had completely flipped it in a way we fell in love with immediately. We added a fence, a patio, shutters and blinds but other than that it was perfect for us and ready to move in! The only thing that was missing at that point was an option to host with Airbnb again so I came up with a plan to transform parts of it into its own private guest studio. It turned into a fun project for me creating & designing this special place for us in order to be able to have friends & family stay with us as well as being an Airbnb host again. I couldn’t have been more excited to list my new studio and only a few minutes after it was listed online I received my first booking for the next day which was end of September 2018. The entire project took a little less than two months from start to finish and now looking back to what started almost a year ago I’m so happy to be part of this amazing Airbnb community. Now I’ve hosted over a 100 stays and people from all over the world since then which has been a fun experience. My husband and I love Southern California with its great weather, stunning beaches, the ocean and all types of different outdoor activities to do. We are interested in a healthy & sustainable lifestyle, hiking, traveling, exploring the world and meeting new, interesting people. As Airbnb hosts it’s fun to be able to share all of that with others. So if you like my story, would love to know more or are interested in staying with me some time, feel free to follow me on Facebook @annasgetaway or Instagram @annas_getaway and check out my Airbnb page! :-)
