Queensland's stunning coastline plays host to an incredible array of migratory shorebirds every summer. ☀️

These feathered travellers journey thousands of kilometres from their breeding grounds in the northern hemisphere 🧭 to escape the cold and spend the summer in our sun-drenched beaches and wetlands. As autumn rolls around, they'll take off again, starting their long journey back home. 🐦

➡️ When visiting mudflats or sandbanks take a moment to observe where the shorebirds are feeding and try to avoid those areas as much as possible.
➡️ If you're walking with a dog, make sure to keep them on a leash.
➡️ And if you accidentally disturb a bird, remember to keep your distance next time.

If everyone disturbs the waders when they are feeding, the effect over time could stop them from breeding. By following these simple guidelines, we can all help protect these amazing birds and their habitats.

🔈 Attention all visitors to K’gari (Fraser Island)!

Please remember to stay vigilant and be safe at all times, especially after an incident involving a woman and a wongari (dingo) over the weekend. The woman received treatment for puncture wounds to her upper-leg after being bitten by a wongari at Eli Creek day use area around 3pm.

Our Queensland National Parks and Wildlife service Rangers are closely monitoring the wongari at 📍Eli Creek and across the island, and additional resources have been allocated to assist with compliance and education efforts.

Remember that wongari are wild animals and unpredictable. To ensure your safety and the safety of others, please follow these dingo-safe tips:

👉 Always stay close (within arm’s reach) of children and young teenagers
👉 Always walk in groups
👉 Camp in fenced areas where possible
👉 Do not run. Running or jogging can trigger a negative dingo interaction
👉 Never feed dingoes
👉 Lock up food stores and iceboxes (even on a boat)
👉 Never store food or food containers in tents, and
👉 Secure all rubbish, fish and bait.

We interrupt your daily scrolling to show you Mt Hypipamee Crater. This 82m deep crater, or volcanic pipe, is thought to have been created by a massive gas explosion some 15,000 years ago.

Known as a diatreme, this is the only example of this feature in North Queensland and is just one of many scenic locations you can visit during your stay at The Canopy Treehouses .
