LEEDS BRADFORD AIRPORT NETWORK EXPANDS TO 80 DESTINATIONS
As reported in this mornings Travel Weekly Leeds Bradford airport is revamping terminal facilities as it gears up to handle flights to a record number of destinations in 2023-24.

The West Yorkshire airport will feature 80 destinations across year-round and regular seasonal charters throughout the schedule for the first time.

New destinations include Bergen, Porto and Perpignan. Recent additions of Katowice in Poland, Bucharest and Cluj in Romania are being maintained.

Favourites such as Tenerife, Faro and Palma remain mainstays of the holiday calendar, with increased capacity introduced due to demand.

The airport has made “significant investment” to its terminal, undertaking an extensive redevelopment of its Hall A facilities.
The check-in hall, which handles all airlines apart from Jet2, is being configured to optimise space and operate with self-service kiosk capabilities.

Hall A will be given a new Scandinavian inspired design, with modern lighting and wooden screening as part of the development.

Multiple shopping and food and drink units are being upgraded together with lounges.

A recruitment drive is underway to ensure “ample capacity” to meet demand during busy peak periods.

LEEDS BRADFORD AIRPORT STRIKE SUSPENDED.
A planned strike by security staff at Leeds Bradford airport ahead of the August bank holiday has been suspended.
The GMB union said it would be consulting with members over an improved pay deal put forward by airport bosses.
Workers at the Yorkshire airport were set to walk-out for three days next week following a dispute over pay – which saw a ballot return of 93% vote in favour of industrial action.
The suspension of the strike will give the union time to conduct the consultation.

Flybe's inaugural flight from Leeds Bradford Airport took to the Yorkshire skies today heading for Belfast City Airport! 🎉
It marks the beginning of up to three daily flights from Leeds Bradford Airport (LBA) to Heathrow Airport (LHR) and Belfast City Airport (BHD). 🛫
Transporting passengers from Yorkshire to these two fantastic cities is a fleet of fast, quiet, and CO2-efficient Dash 8-400 planes.

LEEDS BRADFORD GAINS DUBLIN AIRLINK
New Aer Lingus Regional operator Emerald Airlines has started serving Dublin from Leeds Bradford airport.
Up to two flights a day will provide connections to the Aer Lingus transatlantic network with pre-clearance of US Immigration at Dublin airport.
Aer Lingus Regional flights are operated by ATR72-600 turboprop aircraft.
The carrier is also raising capacity between the Yorkshire airport and Belfast from next month.

LEEDS BRADFORD AIRPORT URGES PASSENGERS ARRIVE THREE HOURS BEFORE TAKEOFF!
Leeds Bradford is the latest airport to issue a caution over delays as its expects 37,000 passengers over the Easter weekend.
Passengers are being recommended to arrive three hours prior to departure to ensure enough time to move through security.
While the level is only 76% of pre-pandemic volumes, the Yorkshire airport warned that some delays can be expected at peak times on some days.
“This disruption is not as severe as that which other UK airports are currently experiencing but can unfortunately be unpredictable,” Leeds Bradford airport (LBA) said.
“Due to recent changes in Home Office accreditation for airport staff, uncertainty around when pandemic travel restrictions were due to ease and ongoing staffing disruption due to covid-19 absences, a longer lead time for recruiting staff is being experienced across the aviation industry.”

LEEDS BRADFORD AIRPORT DROPS NEW TERMINAL PLANS
A planning application for a replacement terminal building is being been withdrawn by Leeds Bradford airport (LBA).

The Yorkshire airport blamed “excessive delays” and a decision to call in plans by the communities secretary Michael Gove.

An extension to the existing terminal, originally approved by Leeds City Council in 2019, will now be revived meet increasing passenger demand as the aviation sector recovers from the pandemic.

Further details of the extension scheme will be released in the coming months.

LEEDS BRADFORD AIRPORT OUTLINES NET ZERO CARBON TARGET.
Its been reported in today`s Travel Weekly that a detailed plan has been unveiled by Leeds Bradford airport (LBA) to become a net zero carbon airport by 2030.
The Yorkshire airport’s roadmap is focussed on emissions that it is directly responsible for and is fully in control of.
This includes decarbonising intensive terminal operations across the 260,000 sq ft airport, such as renewable heating contracts, energy efficient air-conditioning, as well as converting on-site vehicles to low and zero emission solutions.
It aims to become one of the first net zero airports in the UK.
The airport also committed to measures that support reducing emissions produced by business partners, such as airlines.
These wider plans include Jet2’s commitments to reduce CO2 per passenger by 10% by 2030, use UK produced sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) by 2026 and operate 50% zero emission ground support equipment by 2023.
Similarly, Ryanair has committed to 60g CO2 per passenger by 2030 and KLM has outlined a CO2 reduction path.
Airport chief executive Vincent Hodder said: “This net zero commitment is one of the most ambitious made by a UK airport and we hope it will reassure passengers, partners and members of the public that we are planning for the long-term future of LBA.
