It may be chilly here in Dallas, but all the photos I’ve been staring at of the Caribbean sea are reminding me of warmer places. On deck right now is an itinerary for a client to Dominican Republic. It’s not where you are but who you’re with, and I totally agree, BUT that doesn’t mean that I don’t take where my clients stay incredibly seriously!
One of the reasons why I make it a point to visit as many destinations, resorts, and hotels as possible is so I can get a feel for the true experience my clients will have when they take their honeymoon or adults getaway to the Caribbean.

In the travel industry, we call them site visits. When I’m in a destination, I connect with my hotel partners for exclusive tours and walkthroughs of their accommodations.

This gives me a feel for what the rooms are truly like. Of course, I’m always scoping out the best ones so I can make specific requests for clients.
It gives me an idea of the vibe and feel of a hotel or resort, so I know whether it will be a good fit for the type of experience my clients want.
They’re priceless opportunities that truly help me make my clients’ travel experiences better!

In the beginning, I had to teach myself a lot in regards to running the business side of things. I also spent countless hours watching videos, researching, and visiting resorts so that I would know exactly what to recommend to my clients. The biggest struggle I had in the beginning was getting people to see why they needed me as their travel expert. Most people don’t know that when they book online, they are booking through what the industry calls online travel agency. So, websites like Expedia, Booking.com, etc. charge you to use their service and it’s factored into the price. When you use an independent travel agency like mine, you get one on one customer service and trip planning tailored to your exact needs.

You REALLY need to hear this if you’re planning a trip anytime soon. It’s so tempting to do some searching on Google, find a packaged vacation, and book whatever is the lowest price. But here’s the thing: That $50 or $100 you could be saving now could actually cost you in the long run. Almost all online travel websites come with cancellation stipulations, especially when it comes to flights. If, down the road, you need to cancel a flight or move your trip, that $50 or $100 you may have saved in the beginning could come back tenfold with cancellation fees. Make sure you know all of the stipulations before you book, and if you want extra protection, book with a trusted travel agent who works with your budget and offer expert guidance.
