This, my friends, is what might be called a heavily pregnant female lobster. When a lobsterman catches one, they will notch the tail and return her to the sea. Read Salt Baked Photography' post below for more details.

So for anyone who doesn’t know, this is an egg-bearing female lobster.
Which means legally, (and ethically), we cannot keep her!

Maine Lobsterman are stewards of the ocean. We care about it’s health and well-being more than we do most people.
Also take notice how the second tail flipper in is damaged (I say this and not V-notch because a proper V-notch does not look like this). This means even when she deposits this batch of eggs, If caught again, it will be known she is a healthy breeder and she will once again go free!
