Madison Square Park is at the center of the Flatiron District. It's in the shadow of the Flatiron Building, for which the district is named. The Park and surrounding area has all kinds of history. Like, which building was going to be 100 stories tall but stopped at 30 because of the Depression?

Now Open! Gansevoort Pier. It's a beach, it's a park and it's just south of Little Island and west of The Whitney. There's a saltwater marsh and a place to launch canoes and kayaks.

The Vessel at Hudson Yards is basically at the north end of the High Line. Walk from here to the Whitney or vice versa. Plenty to see along the way.

Have you heard the hum in Times Square? This is actually an aural installation by Max Neuhaus. It was installed in 1977, removed in 1992 and reinstalled 2002. It is maintained by the Die Art Foundation.

Tompkins Square Park, the social center of the East Village. There's a playground, skateboarders, political gatherings, live music and grass! Certainly worth a walk when you've wound up at St. Marks and Avenue A.
