🌊I’ve always been in love with Big Sur, and it’s one of my favorite places. A huge statement, even for me.

✨“Magical” would be one word to describe it. On my very first visit the colors of the dramatic coastline wooed me. I was awestruck and couldn’t look away. My phone was filled with endless photos and videos of it. But most of my trips here have been overnight 1-2 night backpacking trips- a huge bucket list item for the adventurous. An item I’ve happily checked off multiple times off my list!

🥾Very rarely do I do day trips, but on this visit I did a few short and easy hikes. Trails I’ve never done. I also realized I haven’t visited here in the last two years.

It’s been awhile, old friend.

For the prospective visitor- there is more to it than the Bixby Creek Bridge.

*Always trying to figure out how to extend my trips 😇 *

Depending on the airline, if you’ve booked a flight with points and miles, it makes it easier to modify your flights (with US-based airlines, domestic trips). Say you have to cancel a round trip flight on Southwest… your miles and taxes are 100% refunded. Same for Alaska Air and United.

It’s nice to have options!

What was your last experience with modifying a flight?
(NOTE: This isn’t the same with International flights. Though I will say a previous client extended her trip to Costa Rica for a day or two and she did not have to pay a cent… but this is a rarity, and not the norm.)

I’m back!

I put a poll out last week about sharing travel and wellness content. I’m always going to share travel, but unsure about the wellness piece. What I got out of that is… share it in small doses?

I’ll continue to post 2-3 times a week. (It’s fun for me, really.) Posts on IG are fun/random highlights though. Personally I’m going to focus more on blogging expanded travel info since IG isn’t quite the right platform to search for information in general. Sometimes I wish Ctrl + F was an option on my IG posts!

Wrapping up skiing (more posts to come!) from my last visit to another ski park.

1. With my season pass from another ski park, I only paid $25 for admission at this one.

2. First chair lift, easy peasy run

3-4. Those are trees frozen with snow. They look like whipped cream to me 😆

5-6. The famous bowl. (Looks amazing, and scary!!)

7. Another shot of one of the whip cream trees, and a soccer ball ⚽️

8. I think this was taken on my first run, and this was when I realized my legs were sore! (This is the most I’ve ever skied in a season💪🏽)

This ski park was probably the smallest out of the three I visited this year. All the runs here were Blues 🟦 or Black ◆ with the exception of only ONE green😮‍💨 It wasn’t a beginner spot for sure. And the quality of the snow? Meh… most of the runs were ICYYY🥶 I much prefer more powder.

My last takeaway from this is that not all ski parks have equivalent level runs. Ex. A blue might be graded a green at another ski park.

How To Live Better: Make Connections!

I don’t care if you’re coupled and you’re each other’s worlds… have conversations with strangers. With anyone. (I do know that speaking to someone out of the blue on the street is a somewhat western practice.)

I love it when conversations with strangers get deep and enlightening.

She shared things with me that I already knew but it didn’t matter because I knew that I needed those reminders.

When was the last time you had a deep conversation with a stranger?

How to live better: Get help when you need it.

Grieving is hard. There are months I feel good and some months, I don’t. I joined a gym the other day (who am I… I prefer exercise outdoors. Oh but it’s winter and it’s cold and rainy outside) and in the middle of being on a treadmill, it hit me hard like a truck. My body deemed it was time for emotional release. I sobbed.

My sister’s death anniversary was back in November but I couldn’t cry. Too many things going on.

This year, I’m striving to take all the time I need. I hope you give yourself grace and do the same.

Rainy day in our pop up camper… At lake Arenal. We realized this is not where you want a pop up tent😅 it is cloudy and rains quite often here, even in dry season (mid-December was just the start of it). None of the guidebooks say this… but also I don’t get the impression that many visitors to Costa Rica choose to drive themselves.

It was definitely an experience. We didn’t sleep that well the night before because the wind was howling and there was a heavy downpour 🌧️

We struggled to turn on the stove the next morning because it was so windy and we were wet from the never ending rain. Before we got the stove to work, I had already thrown in the towel and wanted to just go find a coffeeshop for breakfast instead.

At the end the stove did work, and a rainbow appeared over us. Everything was going to be fine!

For 2023 I wanted to go to one travel conference- to put myself out there, to network and make friends.

You’d never know it, but growing up I was a shy kid. I never said hi first, and hated public speaking well into my mid-twenties, even with taking a public speaking course in college… I have come such a long way (I’m also getting older and wiser so I don’t care as much about what people think🤣) and now I even give presentations for my university role.

Shout out to my ever-supporting friend whose response was “Do Ittt” when I told what I wanted to do. And my other friend who texted me that I traveled so far for a short trip that I might as well go to a happy hour event (I was feeling lots of imposter syndrome and almost didn’t go). You know who y’all are💕

I ended up going to two conferences! This photo post doesn’t include everyone. There are also people I’ve met on tours or chatted with on IG live! Thankful for these connections I’ve made this year, in the name of TRAVEL✈️ including meeting Samantha Brown😍

I love meeting people IRL. Who wants to meet up?

What they don’t tell you about Iceland:

- the international airport is tiny
- the land looks barren, you’ll see a lot of volcanic rock 🪨
- nothing’s really open before 10am in downtown Reykjavik, except for a few cafes
- Don’t take a taxi from KEF to downtown Reykjavik. It costs $160 USD, ONE WAY instead, take a bus
- There are no indigenous population in Iceland
- Iceland experiences many earthquakes
- Many places take credit cards, so you don’t have to worry about taking out cash
- Don’t be afraid to drink water from the tap. They have fresh water that flows from glaciers

Iceland is an expensive destination, but there are ways around it.

- most obvious one. SAVE UP
- book early, or use points if last minute!
- compare AirBnb vs hotel, and find a spot close to the city center so you walk everywhere downtown as opposed to hiring a taxi
- Cook your food, don’t eat out for every meal
- check out Happy hour at pubs/restaurants at certain times- walk around downtown and you’ll see signs
- Shop at Bonus- a couple of their sandwiches weren’t bad
- travel with a least one other person to split accommodation costs

STORY TIME - Part 1

We encountered a black bear for the very first time on the trail. We had to shoo it away when I spotted it at sunset. I had just taken one shoe off to jump into the lake when I turned around back to our campsite and spotted it. I had only seen its black butt at this point. I kept looking in the same direction and within a few more seconds, the bear’s face emerged. I yelled “HEY BEAR GET AWAY” while Jesse was getting out of the lake and I was unsuccessfully running (on rocks) with one shoe on and one off, both of us trying to make sure the bear didn’t grab our backpacks with our food in it.

It emerged again in the distance, now making its way toward another campsite where two guys were also hanging out by the lake. After maybe five minutes, I saw them both yelling. The bear had also come to try to steal their food.

A king size bed doesn’t necessarily mean it’s more expensive either… I’ve found that sometimes rooms with two beds cost a little more. Just have to look at different rates -or if you book through me, I do it for you! Consultation form is available via link in bio.

I was tired of July LIE on the California coast so I hopped on a flight to someplace I’ve been to before. Ironic that this place had better weather than my home base during my visit 🌅

Ranch life.
Every time I make this trip, I am reminded of a childhood dream where I retire to someplace green and where I can live off the land…

It makes me think of other dreams I had when I was a kid.
