Tongass Treehouse A wild Alaskan getaway surrounded by nature. Relax in the enchanting wilderness between adventures. Erica and Clay grew up right on the other side of Tee Harbor.

The Tongass Treehouse is a house in the lush rainforest canopy with an ocean view. There is a main unit (3 bed / 1.5 bath) with a smaller studio (with full-size kitchen) below, which have the same view accessible via their deck and balcony (spanning an impressive 24 feet wide!). The area is teeming with wildlife, we are able to watch orcas from bed, listen to eagles in the trees around us while dr

inking morning coffee, go out to access world-class hiking, fishing and adventure 15 minutes in all directions, and come back to relax and enjoy the sunset while flying squirrels glide from tree-to-tree. When we travel for work, we rent out our home to help pay for the massive remodel we have spent 8 months working on. This is where we live, this is not a dedicated vacation rental. It's a great place to base your adventures and see all Alaska has to offer, but not a place to have a party.

Mountain goats and islands.

Mountain goats climb the very steep and rocky slopes to feed on grass and shrubs. Although they are very powerful, they are agile at the same time, being able to jump more than 13 ft. They prefer slippery slopes and rocks to lower elevations, where they are much more likely to be hunted by a predator. Their hooves are split into two sections, allowing them to spread the halves to grip a larger rock surface. The bottoms of their hooves have rubbery pads, like shoe soles. The pads provided the goats with even more traction. They also have two stubby “dewclaws” on the backs of their legs they can use for gripping and slowing if they slide down a slope. They also have keen eyesight and can spot the best climbing routes and also see movement up to a mile away.

Life does not come with a predetermined road map. It is a book that you write in everyday. Some chapters are filled with adventure and others are filled with drama. Remember, not every chapter will have a happy ending. It is your book to write, it is your life to live and a new chapter can start on any page. So, stop working on the rough draft and start writing your book. -Tyler Eddy

Good morning, and Happy yearly excuse to buy candy bars in bulk ....errr Halloween from the night crew! Parts of SE AK have been experiencing Halloween-themed weather during the overnight hours, with fog across parts of the northern half of the panhandle. While this fog will largely dissipate through the day on Thursday, it may redevelop for some locations Thursday evening.

Remember to use caution when travelling in the fog – taking a few extra minutes to get to your destination can save you from running into ghouls, ghosts, zombies, eldritch monsters, and worse!

‘Wáats’asdíyei Joe Yates took this gorgeous shot of Sandy Beach in Douglas this morning. It captures the beauty with a bit of Halloween spooky vibes as well 👻.

Thank you for sharing, !

Winter is here! The average temperature over winter is typically just above freezing. It oscillates between cold snaps (usually above 15F) and warmer periods (not uncommonly in the 40s). We do get snow, but it often doesn't stick around for long before it melts.

With an average just above freezing, ice forming on the roads is a big concern in winter for us.

We live in a very different climate from the Mendenhall Valley, downtown and Douglas areas due to geography. We tend to get half the rain (more sun!) and in winter, we receive more snow. You can usually see the line around Lena where it turns into an abrupt winter wonderfland.

High resolution VIIRS polar satellite imagery this morning showing the convective activity (showers) that will continue across the panhandle for the next few days, as a front departs off to the south.
