If you can choose try not to be captured by a young lion cause they may just eat you alive (because they’re not super skilled at hunting and β€œforget” to suffocate first)

Hippos are born underwater and proceed to lead a largely aquatic life β€” but this tiny hitchhiker was already eager for a change of scene! (A spectacular sighting by our pilot, while patrolling Mzima Springs in Tsavo West National Park)

Across Africa, hippos are under threat. Habitat loss, climate change, human-wildlife conflict, and even poaching are taking their toll on the species. Through our field conservation projects, we are working hard to protect our river neighbours. One example: During the drought, we provide supplemental feedings to pods who are at risk of starvation.

And when an injured or endangered hippo needs help, our SWT/KWS Mobile Vet Units answer the call. Just a few weeks ago, in a joint operation with the KWS, the Rift Valley Unit helped translocate a pod of six hippos who had taken up residence in a sewage plant filtration pond. After a complex operation, the whole pod is now safe in Tundra Conservancy, a protected area with clean water and abundant pasture.

The harsh reality of life and death in the animal kingdom..
Down With The Ship 😨

A helpless baby vervet monkey hangs on for dear life to the lifeless body of its mother moments after she was killed by this young male lion.

We can never comprehend the amount of suffering experienced in the wild. As terrible as it may seem, this occurence doesn't even constitute a blip on that radar.

If nothing else, let's all be thankful that we don't have to worry about predators like lions stalking us when we leave the house.

What do you think of this capture

Check out those teeth. This male Gelada was filmed in the Simien Mountains in Ethiopia where they gather in their hundreds. Despite their intimidating set of teeth, Geladas are the only primates that are primarily grazers with 90% of their diet consisting of grass.

Now ! All For One
This python made the mistake of trying to take out a mongoose within range of its hyper defensive family members.

The video isn’t the greatest (it was shot from the kitchen window of this man’s house) but you can clearly see that the python is trying to constrict one of them while the rest relentlessly attack the snake’s body.

Mongooses (mongeese?) are known for their strong social bonds and cooperative behavior, which often includes defending family members. They live in groups called β€œpacks” or β€œmobs,” consisting of both males and females, and they work together to protect their territory, forage for food, and care for their young.

When faced with a threat, such as a snake or a predator, the group will band together and display a coordinated defense to protect their vulnerable members. Their fearlessness and cooperative behavior make mongooseseses a force to be reckoned with, and any predator that might be looking to snack on one of their family members will most likely have to deal with the rest of them as well.

After protecting her deceased calf for over 24 hours, she finally went to have a drink of water. And in that brief moment, Kiok seized his opportunity and dragged the kill away into the shade of one of the bushes close by.

In this moment, I was shocked at how powerful the lion really is, and at how unforgiving nature can truly be
In the wild, you get to witness scenes that completely change your perception and perspective of the world as you are transported into a world of survival and resilience, where only the toughest survive, and where life and death exist side by side."

As I photographed this sighting, I captured well over 700 shots in that short span, and when I looked at what I had managed to capture, I was in utter disbelief and shock while my respect for these big cats grew even more. This is without a doubt a sighting for the books.

What's a sighting that changed YOUR perception of the natural world?
