On Sunday afternoon, I guided this lovely family from Texas in the Real Alcázar. We were almost alone in the palace and could enjoy its splendor without crowds of people.
The shady walk through the palace gardens was embellished by the proud peacocks that showed all their beauty to the visitors.

Tarde de formación en el parque nacional Doñana con mis compañeros de .
Durante un tour en landrover conocimos a los cuatro ecosistemas de Doñana. Aunque en verano no hay pájaros migratorios para observar, vimos jabalíes, ciervos, gamo, vacas y caballos y un paraje natural precioso.

Triana vuelve del Rocío

An Pfingsten fand in El Rocío (Provinz Huelva) die grösste spanische Wallfahrt statt. Tausende Pilger, Pferde und Ochsengespanne durchqueren dabei den Nationalpark Doñana, um der Jungfrau Blanca Paloma zu huldigen. Die Pilgerfahrt wird traditionell mit carretas unternommen, Wagen mit hohen Aufbauten, die sowohl als Schlafplatz als auch als Lagerraum dienen. Auf dem heutigen Heimweg nach Sevilla wurde der Pilgerweg bei 38º C im Schatten für Mensch und Tier zu einer echten Herausforderung. Hoffen wir, dass alle wieder heil in Triana ankommen!

Was wäre Sevilla ohne seine Kutschen und Pferde?
Diese Woche konnten meine Gäste Kutscher und Maultiere im Palacio de las Dueñas bestaunen, als sie Familienmitglieder des Herzogs von Alba zur Feria de Abril abholten.
In der Woche zuvor stand die herzogliche Kutsche bereits im Eingangshof zur Schau und glänzte zwischen Orangenbäumen und der Buganvilla. Nur zu gerne hätte ich mit meinen sehr sympathischen Kunden eine Fahrt darin unternommen!

Retter in der Not
Meine Gäste aus der Schweiz entpuppten sich heute in den Gärten des Real Alcázar als Lebensretter für eine Entenfamilie. Der Beckenrand eines Sprinbrunnens wurde zum unüberwindbaren Hindernis für die Entenküken. Dank schweizerischen Erfinderreichtum wurde der Rucksack kurzerhand zur Entenleiter und alle Entlein konnten sich aus ihrer misslichen Lage befreien. Frenetischer Applaus der Palastbesucher war der Lohn der guten Tat.

¡Viva la guapa! Ostersonntag in Castilleja de la Cuesta (Sevilla).
Wusstest du, dass es in Sevilla keinen Osterhasen gibt? Dafür feiert Castilleja de la Cuesta, 5 km westlich von Sevilla gelegen, die Auferstehung mit der 'vuelta', einem farbenfrohen und fröhlichen Umzug durch die Strassen des Dorfes. Frauen in Flamenco-Kleidern, Kutschen und Reiter fehlen ebensowenig wie Musik und Papierschnipsel, die sich über den 'simpecado' (symbolisiert die unbefleckte Empfängnis Mariens) ergiessen. Und wie es in Andalusien üblich ist, wird María dabei frenetisch mit 'Viva la guapa' gefeiert.

Stadtführung mit .lafer. Letzte Woche führte ich den Fernsehkoch Johann Lafer durch die historische Altstadt von Sevilla. Bei Sonnenschein und strahlend blauem Himmel gab es neben den wichtigsten Sehenswürdigkeiten auch viel Wissenswertes zur sevillanischen Küche und ihren Eigenheiten.

Heute Vormittag führte ich die MitarbeiterInnen der .kowalski durch die historische Altstadt Sevillas. Aufgrund des Regens passten wir unseren Stadtrundgang den meterologischen Bedingungen an und entdeckten neben den pittoresken Strassenzügen auch die atemberaubenden Semana -Santa -pasos in den Kirchen der Altstadt. Weihrauchgeschwängerte Strassen, der Duft der Orangenblüten und die Semana-Santa-Vorbereitungen lassen Sevilla somit auch an einem regnerischen Tag zu einem Erlebnis werden. Zum Abschluss gab es Gebäck aus dem Frauenkloster Santa María de Jesús, wo uns Schwester María José über das Leben in Klausur erzählte. Ein toller Vormittag mit sehr netten Gästen!

American weeks in Seville.
Thanks to spring break in the USA, I had the pleasure of welcoming a number of American groups during the last 2 weeks. The program was very diverse: family tours, hiking tours for incentive groups and themed tours about the Moorish and Christian heritage in Seville for a university group. It's great to have overseas guests in Seville again!

Winter is the time for training. Languages, the latest findings in art history, architecture and museum didactics are on the timetable, so that my clients can enjoy their city tours even more later on.

Last night, the emeritus art historian Enrique Valdivieso gave a conference on the Sevillian baroque painter Valdés Leal. Together with my colleagues from the Sevillian tourist guide association APIT, I experienced a very interesting lecture.

I love my job as a guide! As different as my customers are, so different are the tours. This past week I had the pleasure of showing a group of international students around the Museo de Bellas Artes. A personal highlight was the guided tour for a very nice family with children, with whom I discovered the Real Alcázar and the Cathedral. The week ended with a group of Austrian pilgrims who celebrated mass in the chapel of the "Hermandad de los Negritos" after the tour. Thanks to for the kind welcome!

Kunden glücklich machen und dabei die lokalen Einzelhändler in Krisenzeiten unterstützen, macht besonders viel Freude!
Diese Woche durfte ich an zwei Tagen einem deutschen Ehepaar Sevilla zeigen.

Am ersten Tag beeindruckten der Real Alcázar, die Kathedrale und das Barrio Santa Cruz.

An Tag zwei besuchten wir die Casa de Pilatos, von deren Architektur und prächtigen Wandkacheln meine Kundin restlos begeistert war. Anschliessend entdeckten wir in den malerischen Gässchen alteingesessene Ladengeschäfte, wo heute noch Quasten, Fransen und Spitzen in Handarbeit hergestellt werden.

Trends and challenges in terms of innovation for tourism reactivation, transformation opportunities made possible by the Covid crisis, as well as innovative tourism experiences were discussed. An interesting input to get ready for the tourism season 2022!

Did you know that in the 16th century about 10% of the Sevillian population were slaves? During the thematic city tour "Morenos and Prietos: Slave Life in Seville" my Dutch guests learned a lot about the forgotten topic of slaves. A special thanks to the Catholic Brotherhood of Los Negritos, who, as always, welcomed us with open arms to to visit their chapel.

Last week I organized a charity tour for the charity fund of the American Women's Club. Proceeds from the tour will benefit La Sonrisa de un Niño, a Sevillian children's association.

Fittingly for All Saints Day, I conducted a walking tour of the San Fernando Municipal Cemetery. Famous bullfighters and flamenco artists have found their final resting place there, as have painters and sculptors. Most of these graves are adorned with wonderful bronze statues. In addition, in the early 20th century, the crème de la crème of Regionalismo architects designed impressive mausoleums and pantheons for Sevillian families.
Nevertheless, the most interesting part of the cemetery is the Dissident Cemetery, which vividly depicts Sevillian history over the last 150 years.

In the newest part of the necropolis, the graves of the Gitano families stand out, richly decorated with floral decorations.

Surprise! This morning, when I went to pick up my clients at the Hotel Eurostars Torre Sevilla, I ran into the middle of the football team of Bayer 04 Leverkusen, that play tonight against Real Betis Balomopie in the Europe League. However, since I do not watch football, I only recognized Rudi Völler, football star of my childhood days. "Tante Käthe" even took the time for a photo. Good luck for tonight, Bayer 04 Leverkusen!
