This 65 year old Cockshutt Combine is combining grains for the 63rd year with Jack! Jack remembers as a young boy traveling from the Rosthern area to the Aberdeen area when his Dad purchased it. They even rode the Hague Ferry to get it home. The Cockshutt and Jack
share many memories together.

Exciting things are happening at the Conservancy...the walking trails have all been cleared, mowed and widened ready for the new season. The studio loft is undergoing a reno which we think the members will enjoy. The cabins have both been sold so will no longer be available to accommodate members during their visits. The loons are back ready to welcome visitors for another season.

A killdeer nest so well camouflaged in the stubble about to be worked. Luckily Mama Killdeer did her broken wing act to draw away the tractor and harrows from her precious eggs. Jack was able to stop and find the nest, lift the harrows and leave the nest intact.

It was a very exciting weekend at the Conservancy with a family of travelers visiting. The family of Arctic Terns are far from their migration path but what a wonderful experience for our guests and us. We researched the terns and found they mate for life and only nest every 3rd year. The parents were catching minnows and feeding their youngster. Hope you enjoy the photos and videos (although they are less than professional quality).

In summer we welcomed back our longest returning guests. A Mom and Dad who had brought their young family year after year came as grandparents accompanying their grown children with their families. We are excited and looking forward to their visit in 2020.
The harvest of the 2019 organic cereal crops was very bountiful and already these crops have reached the British Columbia and British Isles markets. The organic oat crop produced the highest yields in my 60 years of farming.
Along with the help of my Cree friend a "smoke house" was constructed. As temperatures cooled in the late fall we preserved a winter supply of fish with spices and smoke from native willow and alder trees.
Just before the Christmas season our vintner released the 2018 cherry wine. The reviews were excellent.
Stay posted for new and exciting things to come in 2020!

Welcome to Nature Forever
"FROM THE PAST TO THE PRESENT AND INTO THE FUTURE"
Tens of thousands of years ago as the great glaciers crept across what is Saskatchewan today they molded a beautiful valley and waterway which as the ice melted became Lake Savard and the Shell River system. When I first discovered this piece of nature’s beauty in the mid 80’s I felt it would be my responsibility and legacy to preserve what nature had created. To ensure proper stewardship of this Great landscape, to preserve the waterway, lakeshores, forest and wildlife, the “The Carlton Trail Nature & Wildlife Sanctuary” was created.
To enable others to enjoy this piece of paradise, young men and women from Europe, England and Canada along with local First Nations came to help build the Carlton Trail Guest Ranch and Sanctuary. Organic farming/ranching was introduced in the late 90’s when I transitioned the farmland into “Carlton Trail Organics”.
As the 90’s came to a close a new chapter was about to open in my life with my marriage to Gwen. Gwen’s love of nature and the outdoors aligned with mine and together we share the dream of preserving the nature and history of the valley.
As we now enter the latter years of our lives the timing seems right to accelerate the focus on preserving nature and wildlife forever. 2018 marks the beginning of “Nature Forever Conservancy ” and its fundamental principles of giving back…. “Nature Forever Conservancy” in association with “The Carlton Trail Nature & Wildlife Sanctuary” will operate as a non-profit organization.
We look forward to sharing this place that is near and dear to our hearts, with you.
