Despite their common name, the saltwater crocodile can be found in anything from freshwater to brackish to saltwater habitats. Overhunted and subject to killing for its skin during the late 20th century, populations in Australia have undergone a substantial recovery and population estimates now range from 100,000-200,000 in the country.
On our recent trip we had the luck to see a mature female as well as juveniles and a recent hatchling - definitely not a river system to swim in!
