Last month I was one of four women awarded the Rising Star Award by . The award was for my devotion to promote the advancement of women in corporate, public, and civil life. I rarely take time to celebrate my accomplishments but I want to today because so many incredible women carried me through these last 3 years. Thank you for encouraging me to join HWNT FW chapter and seeing all my professional and personal experience as valuable when I honestly was so burnt out that I didn’t think I could bring anything to the table to help our students. Thank you for pushing me to become a mentor to our high school senior Latina’s in the LIP program, encouraging me to join and participate in the education committee, and become one of the volunteer coordinators. I’ve loved getting our students college ready and working with the Fort Worth community to partner with us on volunteer opportunities for our students. I finally feel deep rooted in our community and like a lifeline for our students, something I desperately needed when I was a senior in high school. You never think what you do out of love will be acknowledged because that was never the goal but it felt incredible to accept this award with the women who built HWNT FW in the 60’s while fighting for our civil rights and our communities.
Congrats to , Lorena, and Bianka. Y’all inspire me and I’ve learned so much from you these past 2 years getting to work with you.
To my sister, best friend, and love of my life and personal photographer lol - thank you for your unwavering support and encouragement these last few years which have been brutal. There’s nothing I feel like I can’t do without you by my side. I love you forever.
And to my mom -Mami this is your dress I brought back from PR in December which fits me now. I wore it because I wanted you to be a part of this day and to honor you. I know you would be so proud of me and the work I’m doing for students and the community just like you did. Eternally missing you thank you for the love and devotion for our community that you instilled in me. Keep walking beside me and uplifting me. Te amo.
