I’m in a condo on the 9th floor looking down on my boat, I have done everything I can to make sure the boat is tied off the best I can. When I was getting off the boat for the last time I fell in and could not get back on the dock or the boat the only person still on the dock was my friend Dave, he herd me yelling for help and helped me get out, we both are now safe in the condo

Well, our British Columbia adventure came to an end. We continued our cruise and we were able to see the Octopus Islands and Gorge Bay in Desolation Sound before heading south to Pender Harbour and Montague Harbour and before arriving back in Bellingham. The last few days were long days of cruising and it wasn’t very warm, but all in all I would say the trip was a success. The boat ran great, we didn’t hit any rocks or logs which were everywhere and we saw some stunning scenery.
We had a very nice dinner in Bellingham with some friends and spent an afternoon in Seattle before flying home yesterday.

Yesterday we cruised over to Rebecca Spit and met up with some friends, Mike Freeman and Beth Darrow that we met on the Great Loop in 2022. They are up here cruising in their Ranger Tug for a few months. We went for a beautiful walk and had dinner at the pub in Heriot Bay which was fun. Today we cruised up to the Octopus Islands which is another beautiful spot. It is colder today with wind and some rain. Hopefully tomorrow we will have better weather.

We made it to Desolation Sound. Yay! It is beautiful up here. Great cruising grounds.
We left Princess Louisa Inlet, cruised to Sturt Bay, then to Grace Bay and we spent last night in Prideaux Haven. We have been on a couple of neat hikes to small lakes and explored around in the dinghy. Weather is perfect. Lots of other boaters as it is high season here, but we have found nice places to anchor every night. Boating here is a bit different than what we’re used to. There are 10-15 foot tide changes and we are anchoring in 40-60 feet of water.

Ok Mountain Mermaid peeps. We are on a new adventure. We are actually not on Mountain Mermaid this time, we are on Salish Dawn. We rented a boat in Bellingham, Washington and we are heading to Canada to cruise around for a couple of weeks. Wish us luck. 😎

We made it back to our home marina in Cape Coral last Friday. We had a good journey from Lake Worth to Stuart and across the Okeechobee Waterway. A lot of people don’t like that route, but I don’t really mind it. There is always something interesting to see. The Okeechobee Waterway is 154 miles long and there are 5 locks. It runs through Lake Okeechobee and consists of the Caloosahatchee River to the west of the lake and the St. Lucie Canal east of the lake. We have been cleaning and organizing the boat since we got here and we have met with several people that are going to do work after we leave. There is always lots to do when we get here and right before we leave.

We visited Great Guana Cay, Green Turtle Cay, Manjack Cay and West End, Grand Bahama.

The north end of Great Guana Cay / Bakers Bay was thriving. Lots of big money there and huge mansions that have all been rebuilt since Dorian. It’s all private for the mega wealthy. The southern end was still struggling and pretty quiet. We went to Grabbers for lunch, Nippers was closed on Tuesday.

We stayed at The Green Turtle Club Marina and Resort which was lovely. The town of New Plymouth was still pretty beat up from Dorian and recovery has been slow. They lost a lot of the old clapboard houses which lended such island charm to that historic community. Gillum bay was amazing as usual. One of the most beautiful bays in all of the Bahamas.

We had a wonderful day at Manjack Cay. We watched turtles in the morning while taking the dinghy through the mangrove river there and then we anchored on the north end and walked the east coast beach that we had all to ourselves. It was a special and memorable day and our last one to explore. The next day we headed to Great Sail Cay to anchor for the night, then to Old Bahama Bay at West End for a night and today we crossed the Gulf Stream back to Florida.

We had a good run this year. It wasn’t without issues, but, luckily none of our issues shut us down. 2 of our 3 refrigerators quit working, we cracked our glass cooktop, we lost an air conditioner pump, a water pump, a generator starter, and anchor roller pin, our glendinning electrical switch quit working, we had inverter issues, a slightly bent dinghy prop and a few other minor problems. But even though Tim hates playing mechanic he was able to fix most everything and we had the extra parts or were able to get them. “It’s a boat” is a common saying among boaters. If you’re going to boat you’re going to have issues; it’s all part of it. Boaters sit around and talk about the problems on their boats like old people talk about their ailments. It can be quite comical.

We learned a lot, saw some exceptional places, hung out with good friends and family and we made lifelong memories.
I’d say it was a success.

Tomorrow we head up the ICW to Stuart, then across the Okeechobee Waterway to the west coast and our home port of Cape Coral.

We cruised from Eleuthera to the Abacos. We weren’t sure what to expect since hurricane Dorian did such catastrophic damage here in 2019. But we have been pleasantly surprised. Elbow Cay / Hope Town is doing great with very few signs of the damage done. Lots of new, beautiful homes, restaurants and marinas.
Marsh Harbor has several beautiful marinas that are thriving. But there is still a lot of damage present in town. We stayed at The Conch Inn and Marina and it was beautiful.
Yesterday we visited Man O War Cay. It is coming back pretty well. Lots of new homes and docks, but still some signs of Dorian.
Today and tomorrow we are at Great Guana Cay as we work our way toward Florida.
Nothing has happened to Treasure Cay since the storm so we won’t be going there, but we have been told that reconstruction will start soon.

We are in Spanish Wells, Eleuthera. Kendra and Kyle flew home today. We were sure sad to say goodbye because we had the best time with them. We visited Little Farmers Cay, Oven Rock anchorage, Staniel Cay, Shroud Cay, Cape Eleuthera Yacht Club and Rock Sound before arriving here in Spanish Wells.
We saw several Caves, two blue holes,
lots of beautiful beaches and hiking trails.
We snorkeled some small coral reefs and The Thunderball Grotto and we saw lots of beautiful fish and coral. We took long walks and dinghy rides and saw so many amazing things.
We swam with turtles and saw swimming pigs. We had lots of delicious meals both on and off the boat. We had a lot of laughs and made great memories.
It was a blast. Thanks Kendra and and Kyle for coming to visit. We miss you already.

We spent 2 weeks in Georgetown, Exuma. So many beautiful beaches, hiking trails, lots of other cruisers and the Chat n Chill beach bar. Nice little town with an awesome grocery store and some great restaurants. We were hoping to visit a couple of nearby islands but the winds didn’t cooperate. Maybe next time. Our son, Christopher along with our daughter, Kendra and her husband, Kyle flew in and they will be with us for a couple of weeks.
We have gone as far south as we are going to on this trip, today we head back north again.

We spent a few days anchored at Big Majors Spot near Staniel Cay, a couple of days at Little Farmers Cay, which I loved, then we moved to Rudder Cut Cay just south of Musha Cay for two nights. We have taken some dinghy rides, walked on lots of beautiful beaches, visited with wonderful Bahamians, and we have snorkeled. We’ve seen turtles, sharks, pigs and sting rays and we even saw a sunken statue of a mermaid and a baby grand piano off of David Copperfields’ private island. Today we are traveling to Georgetown.

We survived the big storm that blew through. We were very happy to be in a marina. We heard lots of stories about boats hit by lightning, dragging anchors, lost dinghies, etc. Storm was a doozy for sure. After the storm, we went back up to Hawksbill Cay for a couple of nights and now we’re in Warderick Wells waiting out some high winds. Weather, weather, weather. Always a challenge over here. Hopefully things will settle down soon.
Tomorrow we are heading south to Staniel Cay.
