What to do in Fort Lauderdale for a day? Check FLL beach and strip!

The Fort Lauderdale Beach and the strip are about a 20- to 30-minute drive from FLL airport depending on traffic. If I have a long layover in my future Carribean/Latin America travels (hello, Peru in August 2018!), this is one place I will be going back to see.

When I planned my Jamaica trip, I decided to extend my layover in Florida for several days--2 days in South Beach Miami and one day in Fort Lauderdale. Most flights to the Carribean and Latin America fly off from the tip of the Sunshine State peninsula a

Ditch the car rental, get an Uber

When traveling to a touristy spot and finding a place to stay, it’s best that you will be able to walk around and don’t have to drive. Or if you do, you can at least take public transportation or be able to access a hail-riding ride like Uber (or even Lyft). Look at your itinerary and logistics. Not worrying about how getting around and spending money you could have otherwise used for your travel experience is the way to go.

Okay, before I go any further, this is not a sponsored post. I am writing this as I had a great experience with the ride-hailing behemoth that is Uber during my extended layovers in South Beach...

Dunn's River Falls: A must-see attraction while in Jamaica

Dunn's River Falls is a beautiful work of art of Mother Nature with waters that cascade down terraces of giant rocks. If you have to choose between Dunn's River Falls and Nine Mile, choose the former if you don't have a lot of time for sightseeing. If you're not a big fan of Bob Marley, save the latter for your next visit to Jamaica.

I am glad to have taken the tour Dunn's River Falls in Ocho Rios, Jamaica while vacationing in an all-inclusive hotel in the resort town of Montego Bay.

Old Ellicott City After The Storm

Old Ellicott shot up to national news when a strong storm ravaged through the area and dumped more than 6 inches of water and swelled the Patapsco River at the foot of Main Street.

Ellicott City will always have a place in my heart as the birthing ground of the American Dream. I, alongside many, were in shock that fateful July 16, 2016.

En route to Jubail Industrial City (and sandstorms!)

Exiting Dammam and then entering Jubail, passing by this long stretch of road the name of which fails me now, on a windswept Tuesday morning, was where I got to experience my first sandstorm.

I asked the driver where we were heading and how long it would take us to get there. “Whoa” was the only thing I could say when he replied it would take about an hour to get to the hospital in...

5 Things To Do When In Truth Or Consequences, New Mexico

I must say, I am not a local. I lived and worked in this town with an unusual name, Truth or Consequences (T or C), close to a year as a travel physical therapist and got to explore it on my own, sans any list. This recommendation hopefully might guide the first-time visitor who finds their way to this quaint little town on the Rio Grande and three hours south of Albuquerque as a point of reference.

Surreal, Roanoke, West Virginia

I had the most surreal experience while on a weekend getaway in Roanoke, West Virginia. I got a discounted rate through Groupon in the popular hotel in the area, the Stonewall State Park Resort, and the otherworldly happenstance occurred by the lake nearby at dawn.

Taking the Leap: Bungee Jumping in Cancun

Did it ever cross your mind to do something random? Or to conquer a fear? Or to check off one of the must-dos on your bucket list? I did. All three. In a day. And this all started when I was standing on a balcony while talking with a new found friend about carpe diem--seizing the day.

A Scottish Beach in Maryland?

So it was one of those midweek road trips and the pick was a beach getaway in a state park called Point Lookout in Scotland, Maryland. This European country namesake is located in the southernmost part of The Old Line State and west of the Chesapeake Bay. Its state park offers picnickers and beachgoers a more bucolic setting, one that other famous MD beaches Sandy Point and Ocean City are unable to provide.

Hotel Riviera Newark, NJ: We Got History

I had the opportunity of staying in a hotel with a slogan that said "we got history" in Newark, New Jersey. There were several factors why we chose the hotel over others. For one, the timing. We made it to NJ around 9 pm so getting a mid to high-range hotel didn't make sense. This particular hotel is old, and when I say old, like old, old that it even has a mail chute on the wall from up the 8th floor. I am talking about Hotel Riviera.

Parasailing in the Caribbean resort town Punta Cana

One of the things to do while in Punta Cana is to take advantage of the many watersports and rides like jet skiing, kayaking, banana boat riding, and parasailing. For my birthday, I chose the latter, where you get strapped to a parachute while up in the air for 500 feet and pulled by an engine-powered boat.

Del Travels to Chichen Itza, Mexico

I have always dreamed of coming to this place such that I made it a point as part of my itinerary while in Cancun. Just being there, walking through the ancient city ruins, and knowing how advanced the Mayan civilization back then, yet barbaric with the sacrifices (or so I was told), was an experience to live for.

Del and Liam go to White Castle

A play on words, as that titular movie from John Cho (Harold) and Kal Penn (Kumar) going on a munchies quest to White Castle in New Jersey. But this particular White Castle was not in Brunswick or Cherry Hill, as was the movie, but in Jersey City itself. A stop-over at this movie-infamous restaurant was not because we had the munchies for their sliders. This will be explained further in the succeeding paragraphs.

Another popular attraction when in Chicago is a visit to the Willis Tower, previously known as the Sears Tower. So why would a skyscraper be part of your itinerary while in the Windy City? It's because of the SkyDeck or Ledge, a glass balcony out of the 103rd balcony. Yes, it's all glass, even the floor you're stepping on.

Del Travels to Waikiki Beach, Oahu, Honolulu, Hawaii

So I was told that Hawaii is one of the most expensive locations for a trip, that accommodations and basic food stuff would put a hole in your pocket. But this didn't this stop me going to the Aloha State after a Jamaica trip didn't push through. Hawaii was the last leg of my week-long vacation, after two-day stays in Chicago and Las Vegas. For this final destination, my travel buddy and I traveled to Oahu, one of the many islands that make up the Hawaiian archipelago.

The Bean, a Chicago Landmark

Visiting Chicago wouldn't be enough without the customary selfie or photo opp with the art installation called Cloud Gate, or popularly know as The Bean. And that's coming from a traveler unless a local would say otherwise. It is but one of the many art installations in Millenium Park, located on North Michigan Avenue, Chicago. It was somewhat of a walk, 15 minutes from where we were staying, not too bad if it weren't only from the frigid weather. We figured that walking would let us appreciate the beauty of the metropolis more than taking a taxi or Uber. So off we hiked 0.6 miles of pedestrian lanes.
