Construction of Norris Dam began on October 1, 1933 and was completed in March 1936, making it the first project undertaken by the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) as part of the New Deal. The dam is 265 feet high and 1,860 feet long, and it spans the Clinch River in Campbell and Anderson counties, Tennessee. The dam's first generator went online on July 28, 1936
