Grinder, I hate them.

I’ve had to cut the front of the Cheltenham out, talk about rotten. The rot in the front of the, apparently restored Cheltenham is astounding so much so that the front is starting to give and cause issues with the structure. The front cross member is a pivotal structural part of the caravan connecting the A frame, chassis arms, legs, front panel and flooring together creating a structure that holds together so when I find this rotten I have to replace it, so this winter is happening.

Isn’t it funny, the company that did the repair actually follows me on instagram too…..

Day 7, night time set up.

I LOVE the awning in the Cheltenham, it’s a perfect condition awning for its age, a real gem we dropped on. The glow that comes from this set up gives a real feel of comfort and warmth, I love it.

I do often get asked why I want or even like old caravans, this is one of those reasons, look at it, who isn’t instantly drawn into its calling of warmth and colour screaming out, it’s the cosy hug you need at the end of each day.

A big happy birthday to Elddis,

Having been a big start into my caravan life I have to love the Elddis product, my first caravan holidays were in Elddis caravans from my grandparents Elddis whirlwind that my parents borrowed, moving to their Elddis Cyclone I now own, my first Elddis caravan a Tornado XL to then owing a compass (Elddis built) that I left in France to then now selling their products, Elddis has been a big name in my life and still continues to this day. It turns into a life long affair without actually trying to make it happen. Even my brother owns an Elddis caravan, it’s a total love affair (caravans)

A brand behind you, a caravan for those amazing holidays wherever you are in the world.

And who knows, maybe my caravan will take centre stage on an Elddis stand one day to show how well the caravans serve their owners.

Day 6 and a view from my window.

This was a hard one, I don’t often take photos from inside out, always outside with a caravan in the picture. Some of these photos are going back a few years!

Day……5?! Messiest caravan…..where do I start.

This one took some doing, usually the mess is behind the camera out of sight and throughly out of mind meaning I don’t take photos of it but I did manage to find these few photos.

The first one of the Fawn while I was busy sanding it, everything is piled inside it out of the way but to also keep everything with it.

The second is of my old mustang, it’s all piled high in the middle, this is for its winter storage. All the cushions are in bags making it look very untidy but it’s really organised.

The last photo is of me in the springbok, this was just after collecting it and getting it ready for its first trip. The mess was a bit much but actually tided quite quickly. Thankfully it did make its first epic adventure with me in a tidy state.

Thanks to for the nomination of the 7 day

Day 2 of and it’s the worst job of caravanning, it’s sanding a caravan down. I’d love to say doing the toilet is the worst job but it isn’t I’ll do that any day over sanding. Metal work too, but I don’t have a photo of that but doing caravan chassis metal work isn’t what I call fun.

Getting me through all this were The Wittering Whitehalls in my ears, they helped me through this terribly awfully boring time. Thankful for podcasts!

Day 1, my first caravan trip that potentially isn’t my first ever trip but it’s near as damn it! My first caravan trip away I was 4 months old, being born on new years even and in 1990 my parents weren’t keen on being away at that time of year with no mains electric.

This photo I love, I’m sat on my grandads lap drinking his beer 🫣😂 (must be what put me off beer in my older age, either that or being gay and preferring gin) my grandma is in the photo also, sadly died just after my 6th birthday so I didn’t really get to know her, but these two are the main reason for my caravanning life, starting their caravanning journey in 1984 with their first caravan and progressing, oddly, to Elddis whirlwinds, this possibly coincidence but who knows, I never will, but this started my life with the product following onto this day of selling them. Who knew it would turn out to be a life affair?!

Onwards, I call

On the windiest day yet I decide to take a caravan to Skegness and bring a PX back. Needless to say the Defender did an amazing job at towing both 8ft wide twin axle Bailey Porto down and the Swift single axle back home.

Towing in high winds is always a questionable move, I decided to wait a few hours before setting off, allowing the winds to calm. Once I got a few miles down the road the winds dropped completely and the whole journey was perfect, I’m glad I didn’t have to tow in the high winds, the anxiety can rest.

I got a photo of the sign, the right side for me, the exit. The weather was kind, cold but dry, I didn’t see the sea but the numerous caravan sites, plenty of countryside and empty roads, I had to stop and take a photo of the sign to show today’s journey and how I’ll talk about it.

FOR SALE

My friend is selling one of her caravans, this little Sprite Cadet 10, super lightweight at only 595KG. Super easy to tow and manoeuvre.

3 berth, double at rear and single bunk at the front
Oven, Hob and grill
Kitchen sink with pumped water (hasn’t been used in her ownership)
Fridge working on 240V
Has 12v electrics inside

It has been sat for a few years unused so will need new tyres and a light board or the road lights cleaning up and a new towing plug.

The rail on the offside has been pulled away but will go back into place with some careful hands but it doesn’t appear to have leaked. It has been wallpapered inside and is bubbling throughout the caravan, will be find if roller’d or re wallpapered in someone’s preferred taste.

Overall in great condition, good to go with a good clean and little servicing works.

Located in Middlesbrough and collection from there.

£750 ONO, anyone interested send me a message and I’ll happily answer questions and organise viewing.

You might remember me being offered this caravan back in the summer of 2023, here it is, in front of me but thankfully not on my driveway.

It amazing to see this little caravan in great condition for its year having being cared for but its last owner of many years.

Hopefully it’ll be on the road this year somewhere.

The look on my face is to do with the FREEZING temperatures.

My friend is selling her 1965 Star caravan.

It’s French, it’s a four berth and it only weighs 600KG!! Lightweight and easy to tow on any car, she’s had it around Europe on her classic car, travelled most of England. She is finally (when I’ve finished it) getting her classic Cheltenham Fawn on the road (not long now, follow for updates)

1965 Star, four berth caravan with a trip up double fixed bed, two burner hob, sink, 12v led lights, full hight wardrobe, toilet compartment, ample seating, lightweight and easy to tow, it only weighs around 600kg.

It has modern upgrades that I fitted a few year ago to make cravanning easier for Pam, the owner. 240V mains electrics, 100w solar panel, USB charging points and motor mover, yes it’s tiny but when you’re on your own trying to push it back into storage on a gravel slope, believe me, it’s bloody heavy! It has two new tyres fitted a few years ago, roads lights working, brakes service, new modern roof light, the old one had gone brittle and no longer available.

Located in middlesborough, £3250

The final stage is about to start, the final coat of paint of the white.

I’ve got to strip all the masking and brown paper before putting paint on, this is the primer stage. Re-mask and then painting. Once this is finished I’ll put it back together.

I do plan to paint the brown but I might wait a little while due to a previous owner painting (over the top of everything) so sanding is going to take a little longer than planned to do the strips around the caravan. My main priority is to tidy the white up while the brown doesn’t look too bad….from afar!
