10 days in Montana and Wyoming with my favorite person. Hot springs, National Parks, alpine lakes, ghost towns, and some choice distilleries make for an epic road trip.

What does your favorite city say about you? Out of everywhere, I've traveled, Mexico City was by FAR my favorite city to explore. I'd live there again in a heartbeat!

Honestly, I think it just says that I love tacos. I mean the tacos de canasta vendor by my apartment knew me by name and order - so you could say I'm a bit of a fan. 😋

But in all seriousness - el D.F. is full of ancient history, amazing humans, modern museums, poppin' cocktail bars, more food than you could possibly imagine, and gorgeous outdoor spaces. What's not to love?!

Where is your favorite city? What do you think it says about your personality?

What's the number one destination on your bucket list?

I've always dreamt - since I was quite young - of going to Japan. The language, the culture, and the food have just absolutely fascinated me for decades.

I haven't gone yet mostly because the price of tickets to that area of the world is a bit cost-prohibitive for me right now. ESPECIALLY since I can book a flight to South America for $100 with the right deal 😅

My solution is that I literally have a Google Alert set up for flights to Japan so that I can hop on a flight immediately if one opens up in my price range. 😆

Where have you always dreamt of going, and what's stopping you from getting there?

HEY! This is important. 👇👇👇

I wanted to take a break from my usual travel content to drop this phone number here:

800-273-8255

It's the USA National Su***de Hotline, and it's completely free and available to use 24/7.

As someone who struggles with her own mental health - and who just lost a friend to su***de - I want to make sure that this resource is promoted for everyone.

Please share this often, it's an important number to have on hand. Someone you know could need it right now.

If you struggle with your mental health, be it depression, anxiety, or something else, please know you are NOT alone. Help is always available and you ALWAYS have more people who love you than you could possibly realize.

You are allowed to ask for help. Let me repeat that: you are allowed to ask for help! It doesn't make you weak. Asking for help makes you strong. When you are struggling, remember that no one can exist in a vacuum - we need each other, and it is ok to lean on others for support.

I love you all, and I am always just a DM away if you need to talk. About anything, don't hesitate.

New travel discount alert!!

I travel so often that I'm always on the lookout for new travel memberships in order to save myself some money. I've tried basically all of them 😆. So I thought I'd share with you a new travel club I found!

It's a premium travel membership by 👉 .co

Essentially, the Bemodo Travel Membership enables you to get wholesale pricing on top hotel rooms in top destinations.

Which I actually checked up on - and the first hotel I found on the site? $400 off the asking price I found on other travel search engines. FOUR HUNDRED DOLLARS. 🤯

So ok, that's pretty legit I'm not gonna lie.

Now the sign up price for Bemodo is pretty hefty if you're ballin on a budget 🤑, but you do get a 14-day free trial to check it out to see if you like it.

So...who is this for? Well, I think this is a great option if you're a luxury traveler, OR looking to take a few big-ticket vacations a year with the family.

Depending on where you go and how often, this membership could easily pay for itself. You have to shell out a bigger upfront cost which makes it prohibitive if you're on a super strict budget, so it might not be for those who don't want to pay a lot upfront for a membership.

Either way, you should check out the trial! It's worth looking into. To have a look yourself, go check out the link in bio for .co

Do you belong to any travel memberships? Tell me which ones in the comments so I can check them out myself! 👇

One great new reason why Disney is a company worth supporting 👇

I've never been a huge Disney fanatic. Some people my age are still head over heels for the theme park, cruises movies, you name it - and they dream and plan for years in order to see the Parks.

Although I have a Belle tattoo (it's an inside joke with a friend), I've never been the adult who fawns over Disney and all of its various incarnations. Not really on my radar.

Yet no one can deny that Disney is a HUGE tourist attraction around the world - and as you can see recently I decided to finally pay a visit to Disneyland in Anaheim.

But is Disney a company worth supporting? With so many options these days for travel destinations, why give to such a huge corporation? Clearly, they aren't hurting for money.

Well, believe it or not, Disney has been taking strides for years to be a sustainable, ethical company. For me, no matter how rarely I watch a Disney movie, that makes them a worthwhile company to support.

In fact, recently Disney announced that they will be building affordable housing close to Disneyworld in Orlando with the aim of "fostering a community" in one of their pedestrian-friendly neighborhoods.

The 1,300 homes are designed to be for local families who need to commute to/from work at the Parks. I call that a win, honestly. Don't you agree?

I actually really enjoyed my trip to Disneyland, so I got certified as an authorized Disney Vacation Travel Planner (travel agent!) from the company itself. That means if you have any questions about creating a dream trip for yourself (and/or your littles), I'm here to help bring the magic.

So who is your favorite Disney character? Don't lie - I know you have one!

What's the first thing you do when you plan a new vacation? 🤔

As a travel agent, the first thing I do when I'm planning a trip for a new client is *drumroll*...

I talk to them.

Yeah, sounds easy, right? 🤯 But the truth is that everyone is different. My idea of a "perfect adventure" is completely different than yours, guaranteed!

I'm not here to book me MY perfect vacation, or what I think you might want - I'm here to customize a trip just for you.

So step one for me is getting to know you! What was a past trip that you absolutely adored? What do you do in your free time? Do you have hobbies, dietary restrictions, or mobility issues? What TV shows, movies, or musicians are you absolutely OBSESSED with right now?!

Yes, all of these things can help me plan you the PERFECT vacation. Then I get to researching, sorting through contacts, and planning your itinerary.

Can booking.com or a vacation planning app give you that personalized touch and those feelings of excitement? I didn't think so! 🤪

To get started all you have to do is shoot me a DM! ✉️ Where are you going next?

YOU NEED TO KNOW THIS 👇🏻

When I was vacationing in NYC, I actually had just gotten deported and was suuuuuuper broke. Luckily, I could stay with a friend in Queens, but I still wanted to get out and do things!

But New York City is notorious for being incredibly expensive. So here's how I saved money while still having an amazing time:

⛴️ Take the ferry! This public transportation is incredibly cheap (especially compared to a tour), and there are options to go all around the Burroughs. You can even take a ferry to Staten Island and get amazing views of the Statue of Liberty! I took the ferry to Queens from Manhattan and the views were absolutely insane.

🚶🏽‍♀️ Get out your good sneakers and start walking. Especially in Manhattan, we walked EVERYWHERE. I even walked the High Line on a day that I needed my cane, so I don't want to hear excuses! You can take public transportation (like the subway or a tram) in between walks, and save yourself hundreds on cab fare.

😋 Be picky eating out! Make most of your own food. When you do eat out, we opted for street food like the amazing Birria-Landia taco truck in Queens and Manhattan's cheap and delicious halal carts (there's one near Rockefeller center that is absolutely to die for!). We also "splurged" on $3 Manhattan Chinatown dumplings, and soup dumplings in Flushing. It was easy to save money and eat amazing food when we avoided the "trendy" upscale restaurants. Be adventurous!

Have you been to NYC? How did you save money while you were there?

Dreaming of the beach? Here are some budget tips for visiting Puerto Vallarta: Mexico's most authentic beach vacation town!

Save this post for later because I know you'll be traveling soon!

I lived in Puerto Vallarta for 4 months (part of that completely solo), and I'm about to visit again in a week. You could say I'm a bit of an expert. Contrary to popular belief, a vacation here doesn't have to break the bank!

Here are my tips:
🚌 Take the bus. Yes, Uber is cheap but not as cheap as a $0.50 bus ticket. It's incredibly easy and the tourist buses literally go in a straight line so you cannot get lost. You don't need to know Spanish - the bus destinations are printed on the front of the bus! It's perfectly safe. I took the bus solo all the time in Puerto Vallarta (even at night).
🛎️ Avoid the all-inclusive resort. Food is plentiful, cheap, and delicious in the city. If you don't know Spanish literally just point to what you want with a smile! Booze off the resort is equally as cheap (my favorite bar on the beach makes fresh fruit margaritas for a few bucks). Plus, you'll save money on accommodations - resorts can cost hundreds a night, yet a hostel or an Airbnb is a fraction of that price and can be just as nice.
🦐 Eat local food! As a port and sea town, seafood is plentiful and cheap here. I recommend the marlin tacos (no cheese!), fresh-caught oysters, and langosta - spiny lobster.
⛔ Avoid eating and shopping on the Malecon (aka beach boardwalk). EVERYTHING is 5xs more expensive here than anywhere else in the city (and truly the food is NOT that great). Walk away a few more blocks to find the best booze, food, and shopping! Yes, it's safe to venture away!

"Hey Siri, where should I go on my next vacay?"

Crickets??? 😅

Maybe Siri has the answer...but does she get excited about your Cozumel biking trip with you? Does she send you little reminders, planning tools - and gifts! - to help you get excited, too?

Does Siri get ridiculously excited about the vacay pics you text her? 😂

Skip Siri (and Google while you’re at it!) and let’s chat about your next getaway so that it’s ACTUALLY an adventurous, ethical vacation that you'll talk about for years to come.

It’s as simple as sending me a DM!

How can you take the perfect "workcation"? 💻,+ 👙?

If you're looking to travel more - but don't have much time, or don't have the inclination to be a digital nomad - consider a "workcation".

This can mean whatever you'd like it to mean. Think lounging on the beach, hiking mountains in your free time, or even visiting that "It" city and partying on your days off. However, the caveat is that some of all of the days you are in-country you must be working.

Sounds crazy, right? Yet it can be done! I've worked in coffee shops, hotel rooms, and airports on three different continents and it IS possible to be productive and explore the world at the same time!

Here are a few tips:

🕐 Be choosy with your time. You have to get work done first and foremost, so make a schedule and stick to it.

☕ Don't assume that a coffee shop is your best bet - you might have better luck working at a nice hotel, finding a library if you're in a big city, or paying for wifi on a cruise.

🧑🏽‍🤝‍🧑🏽 The most popular tourist spots aren't always the best to work from - I had a terrible time trying to find decent wifi in Tulum, and I was staying at a hostel that was a 24/7 party. Yet In places like Guadalajara I found so many others working from the hostel that it was easy to work/play/make friends! Get outside of your comfort zone.

🛩️ In this case, getting an airport lounge pass is usually 100% worth it to maximize your time - especially if you're planning a long layover. I love Priority Pass, which I've used extensively and has saved me hundreds on lounge access (plus free meals and exclusive wifi!).

Have you ever considered working while on vacation? 👇 If you want to start planning a workcation trip, shoot me a DM for more resources and tips!

Who else out there is currently planning a trip!?

Due to ✨reasons✨ I still don't have my passport (thanks, US government!). So I'm currently planning for a month of cruises mixed in with some good ole fashioned domestic travel.

Cruises are a great way to travel if you have mobility issues, don't have a passport, or if it's your first time leaving the country because they go to "safe" and less off-the-beaten-path destinations. They are also all-inclusive in a limited sense (no alcohol is included), so if you're on a strict budget this is a great option for you!

Unfortunately, cruises get a really bad rap for being environmentally unfriendly. This is certainly true to an extent! Stay tuned for tips on how to cruise sustainably, budget cruise tips, and more as I finalize my planning and take my first voyage.

First stop: Ensenada, Mexico!

Have you cruised before? What did you like/dislike about it?

I've strayed from my path, and I'll probably lose followers for this post but IDGAF. Does anyone else ever feel this way?

I started BonVoyageBrittany to educate the world about a topic I'm incredibly passionate about: sustainable travel.

In the last few years, the thrill of monetization and even becoming a travel agent have caused me to stray pretty far from this dream.

I mean hell, I barely even mention it anymore yet it's what I got my entire degree in. I feel completely inauthentic - like I'm just another travel-influencer wannabe, who will do anything to "make it".

That's not me, friends.

The truth is, I don't WANT to help some of you jet set around the globe as much as humanly possible - because it's not good for the planet and it's not good for the people whose land you're visiting. I don't want to help you "live cheap in Bali' while locals suffer in poverty- that's thinly veiled colonization, just FYI.

I'm not here to help you take beautiful photos of hikes while disregarding the ecosystem you're trudging through.

Instead, I want to convince you to slow the eff down, truly experience places, and learn to give back to the world around you. I want to help you do things intentionally.

I realize I won't make as many friends this way. I realize I might make some legitimate enemies, and that I'll have to say "no" to brands far more than I say yes. Good. That means I'm doing things the right way.

I'm ready. This is who I am and I'm sick of pretending to be something I'm not just to participate in some performative BS.

So I'll be taking some time to restructure my life. When I return, just know I'm returning in order to show up 100% authentically, for me and for the planet.

Likes, follower count, and "influencer status" be damned.

Where are you working from today?

Today I’m working from the lounge in a ski in/ski out hotel in Utah! I live here, so it’s not as glamorous as it probably seems 😅

I’d actually much rather be working from my little apartment in Mexico City - some days I miss that place a lot!

Being a full-time traveler means I’ve worked from some truly wild places - bars in Tulum, hotel beds, the airport, bus stations, you name it.

One thing that’s never happened is the beach. Seriously no one does that - imagine getting sand in your laptop 🥲

Recently I've been listening to SO MUCH music in Spanish that I can't get Mexico out of my head. The beats, the language: it all reminds me of my adventures and how good it feels to travel.

I've also been watching Frontier with my partner, and we're both itching to visit Canada now. Go figure. 😂

I get a lot of questions about adventurous traveling as a woman in Latin America.

Mostly I get, "Isn't that effing dangerous?!".

Look, I get it! We've been spoon-fed information for years by the media about why Mexico, Colombia, and Guatemala are dangerous: drugs! cartels! kidnapping! - you've heard it all, haven't you?

The reality is that these places aren't any more dangerous than walking down the street in NYC or driving on a busy highway. Sure, some parts of these countries are still rife with pain and poverty and even drug cartels. It would be silly to say otherwise. Yet, we could say parts of the USA are the same, couldn't we? Would you tell a tourist to avoid LA just because Compton has a history of violence?

Before my 6 month stay in Mexico, I was told that I couldn't leave the resorts or I'd get kidnapped. What a laugh! Not only did I live off resort, but I did it on my own as a woman who is not fluent in Spanish.

People aren't evil just because they're brown. The world isn't as scary as we were taught to believe.

If you're still worried about traveling to Latin America, that's why I'm here - to give you expert advice on where to go, what to do, and what to eat.

Don't avoid the world just because you're afraid, my friends! live adventurously instead. ;)

🎉 Big Announcement!!! 🎉

It's been a while since we've talked, friends! I've been silent and sporadic the last few months because I've been working very hard on something I think you'll love.

While skiing here in Utah I noticed something amazing. When women got together - no matter their skill level in the sport - there were unending moments of encouragement. These "lady shred" days were full of uplifting messages designed to help each other improve, all while meeting each other where we were - pushing without being overbearing.

It was insanely fun! We could relax in ways that just happened naturally when a group of ladies vibe.

It's an amazing feeling that - frankly - I as a woman have never quite gotten when hiking or skiing with a group of men. I thought "self, how can we recreate this feeling while traveling?"

So I did the thing. Starting in October I will be launching super-exclusive, women-only group adventure trips.

(!!!)

These trips will focus on getting our bodies moving while exploring once-in-a-lifetime places. Each trip will be a safe, inclusive space for cis, trans, and nonbinary women of all body types, ethnicities, and skill levels.

Each trip will revolve around a specific "big-ticket" hike or outdoor adventure (like cycling, skiing, kayaking, or trekking) and will pair sustainable community experiences, great food, cultural immersion, and off-the-beaten-path ventures during "rest" days.

We're here to feel good about our bodies and what they can do while exploring the world. There might be tears, and there will certainly be a lot of exploration, and plenty of laughter.

All while making friends and encouraging each other to rise to new heights and once in a lifetime achievements.

🗺️ So, who wants to guess where we're going first?! 👇

I've decided I'm never again Photoshopping people from my photos. Why?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This is reality. I took this photo at something like 9 am at Teotihuacan - one of the most iconic places in the world. The entire site was absolutely breathtaking. Arriving at 9 am was a reasonable time, and it wasn't too crowded overall. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I took a lovely tour that exceeded all of my expectations (in so many ways), and had an amazing time. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And the reality is...? This place is fu***ng CROWDED, y'all! Even at 9 am you won't be alone. I didn't feel like it took away from the charm (in fact it helped me remember that at its peak, this city would have been packed anyway). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This is reality and I'm sick of tourism and travel being painted differently. Sometimes places are just popular. Usually, you're not going to completely beat the crowds (and if you're like me, sleeping until 7 am is more worthwhile than having the place to yourself, anyway). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We can still enjoy these places - responsibly - if they're popular. We can still take beautiful photos if there are people around. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Authenticity is far more beautiful, anyway. Don't you agree?

Where are some "flyover" or "skippable" travel spots that surprised you?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
My boyfriend is from Wisconsin, and a lot of his family also live in Minnesota. I've been spending more time there the last few years and both states have really surprised me.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Minneapolis - pictured here - was a fun day trip that I found worthwhile. One of my favorite things to do was walk across the Stone Arch Bridge.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The Stone Arch Bridge is completely closed to motor vehicles and offers some amazing views of the city skyline and a panorama of St. Anthony Falls. Plus, it's considered a National Civil Engineering Landmark for all of you architecture nerds out there.

Spending a day walking the bridge and exploring the area was a lot of fun!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So what "flyover" spots have you been to, that really surprised you? Let me know so I can add them to my list!

Are you making this common travel mistake?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Save this post for later, I know you do this!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The first travel mistake I see a lot of you make is that you're being FAR too ambitious with your travel itinerary.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You're over-stuffing your day, which is causing you to get stressed. Plus, you're missing out on some of the best parts of travel - the ability to be flexible when you discover something new and exciting!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
To fix this problem, pick out one or (at MOST) two things you want to accomplish a day. Schedule one walking tour or excursion - not three.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
On travel days between cities, don't commit to anything but travel. If you find you have time - great, you can squeeze in a neighborhood walk, adventure, or dinner.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When I travel, I often will schedule free walking tours, excursions, museum visits, or hikes. Yet, I only do one of these a day because while exploring I almost always find something, not on my itinerary that piques my interest.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
During my trip to San Jose, Costa Rica for instance, Doug and I took a free walking tour in the morning. We discovered a local market and decided to spend the day exploring that area in greater detail - which we wouldn't have had time for if we had double booked ourselves.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You can't explore if your itinerary is overbooked, and exploring is often the best part of travel - don't you agree? Are you guilty of overbooking yourself when you travel?

06/01/2022

Do you know what I'm sick of? This is probably going to get me some hate, but idc.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I'm sick of perfectly curated Instagram feeds of beautiful (usually blonde) thin women in impossibly flowy skirts traveling to "exotic", magically empty locations.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Here's the deal. I love to travel (you probably do too). I want beautiful travel photos and a beautiful online presence (I'm assuming you want this also).
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Yet there is no way I'm waking up at 4 am to get a crowd-free photo of the Taj Mahal in a frilly dress because that's what'll make me "InstaFamous".
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Being Instafamous is great (I assume, lolololololol), but the reality is that travel isn't always glamorous. That kind of travel isn't even really travel - it's tourism, which is a different beast.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Instead of worrying about how you look, or how many people are going to be in your photo, start living your life in the moment. It's something I'm embracing more and more lately, and it's made my life so much richer.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Start traveling not to show off that you're in pretty places, but to try new things, meet new people, and be a little uncomfortable sometimes.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I promise you'll make more memories and have better stories while you're uncomfortable and looking kind of rough than you will landing your perfect shot at 5 am.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Do you agree?

HAPPY NEW YEAR! Do you know what the most fulfilling part of helping other people travel is?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I get to watch y'all achieve your dreams!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Travel was the number one way I embraced my freedom and individuality as a young woman - especially post-back surgery.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I thrive on helping others achieve that same sense of accomplishment, freedom, and wonder. That's why I love what I do - being a travel writer, content creator, and consultant allows me to help all of you to absolutely SLAY at life.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What travel goals have you set for yourself in 2022? What is stopping you from achieving them - and how can I help you get there?

WEIRD QUESTION:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When the New Year hits, I want you to ask yourself: "Self, why do I wait until the New Year to start reaching for my goals?"⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What is holding you back from constantly evolving, learning, and trying new things? Why is there some rule that states you can only start a diet on January 1st, or make this "your year", or finally buy that open-jaw ticket to Thailand? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Stop waiting. Tomorrow isn't guaranteed darlings. Live the life you want to live, now. Not two days from now. Not next week. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Now.

My favorite is the Jack Kerouac quote (towards the end). Send your favorite over to your travel bff and maybe spark a convo on your Jan/Feb holiday plans. 😏
