Beginners Guide For New and Existing Players Part 2 – Daily Writs and more Skill Lines

If you’ve followed the above part 1, you now have your Alliance War skill so lets get some more easy to get skill lines and start writs!

If you’ve followed the above, I recommended starting in Vvardenfell which is Morrowind and if so, on the map head over to Vivec City.

It's not necessary to speak or start any main line quests yet and you’ll encounter one as soon as you spawn in. Just race over to city and discover it.

Just after discovering it and just before you enter the city there will be a black arrow quest markers and one of them is “Seeking Tenant!” “Room to Spare”. I encourage doing this is all the cities but mainly for cities that getting there can be a battle. For example, Alinor in Summerset, you’ll have to cross the map to get there. Others can be more tedious! I'll have a separate post in regards to this.

Once you get the above continue on into the city (don’t worry you’ll complete the quest above soon since you have to go to same general area for writs quest to start), you’ll see another marker on a reader board which are your crafting writ locations. Start this and head to the White Door in your heads up display.

Don’t forget to stop by the Stable just before the Wayshrine to upgrade your mount daily. With the passive you got from Alliance War which gives you a 30% speed boost, I would recommend putting points into Stamina and Capacity early on.

Your character needs to get certified before you can start doing writs, Blacksmithing, Woodworking, Clothing, Alchemy, Provisioning, Enchanting and Jewelry if you have Summerset addition.

You’ll need to talk to Millenith, Danel Telleno and Felarian in Alinor if you have Summerset. I recommend starting with Danel Telleno in the Mages Guild.

Once you find him talk with him and select you want to be certified and he will certify you. He’ll give you a recipe which is in a box right next to the Mage you get the Mages skill line from so get the recipe and then talk to the Mage.

Mage will give you the Mage skill line! Too easy! Read the recipe and talk to Danel Telleno again.

Now before you race off to start your provisioning writ, stop and head towards the fighters guild which you can get to from the Mages guild. You’ll speak to the Fighters guild and get that skill line! Again Too easy!

Why the two skill lines? There are two important and time saving passives in these lines, Persuasive Will: Allows you to Persuade NPCs in conversation from the Mages and Intimidating Presence: Allows you to Intimidate NPCs in conversation, both time saving for sure!

Now head back to the city and start your first writ! There is a bit of back and forth here however you will see that Danel and Millenith are now standing by the bank so you don’t have to run a long ways to speak with them. (Note: reason I like starting here for new characters is this since other cities there is more running and can be a pain).

Supplies for your provisioning writ are right by the provisioning station for your first writ and can be completed easily, the rest of your writs you will need to go to a designated area to get items, all of which are in the same general area and easy to get to.

Go through all 6 there and now you’ve completed your certifications for doing daily writs! (If you have larger editions including Summerset you will need to go to Alinor to get Jewelry certification. Which you can Shimmerene Wayshrine and then on your 30% faster mount ride to Alinor!

Quick check… You should have 3 skill lines added to your menu, Alliance War, Mages Guild and Fighters Guild, started your ability to do daily writs and also stopping by stable daily to increase training…. If not scroll up and get them!

Another EASY skill line that will help you greatly and very easy to do and quickly is Legerdemain Skills, basically stealing and pickpocketing.

Getting the skill line is easy, just pickpocket an NPC, steal an item or pick a lock. It will pop up saying you got the skill line added.

Want to level this quickly? Here is an easy way to do this and get you some gold, recipes and more!

Head to Daggerfall, in Glenumbra. There are two large ships at the docks that are completely unguarded and you can steal everything! Once full head to the nearby Outlaws Refuge and sell your items or launder them if you want to keep them. Then repeat! (Note: any recipes or plans you steal just learn them, no need to launder them first unless you want to sell them).

You have a limit at first but the limit goes up quickly as you add skill points to this line. You can make a lot of gold here so head there daily. You can also advance your skills more by picking safeboxes and chests. (Note: Khenarthis Roost has a lot of chests on the beach to be picked!)

Undaunted skill line – You don’t have to wait to be invited at level 45! You can head to the following locations to start a small quest! They are located in Taverns in these cities:

• Davon’s watch in Stone Falls
• Daggerfall in Glenumbra
• Vulkhel Guard in Auridon

(Note: Once you reach level 45 and have taken the Undaunted pledge you can start to carry out daily quests and daily pledges. This doesn’t stop you from getting skill line or doing the dungeons).

There are two other guild and skill lines, Psijic Skill Line and Thieves Guild skill line. Unless you have purchased the editions that have them you don’t have immediate access to them from the base game via GamePass. Summerset will allow you to get the Psijic Skill line, you’ll start that by heading to Shimmerene and an NPC will say the island is sinking, you’ll get the skill line at end of this quest.

As you can see from Part 1 and Part 2 here, there is a lot of information! Many players may want to get right into the game but will eventually have to get the above.

Writs and stealing are easy to get gold to buy the things you want in game, in upcoming part 3 I will talk about making gold easy!

Beginners Guide For New and Existing Players Part 1

Welcome to Tamriel Guides to help you start the game or new character! In this post you’ll find helpful tips on starting and leveling your new character!

After creating your account the first thing you get to do is to create your character. At first you will be locked into Alliance Races. So if you pick Aldmeri Dominion, you have to choose High Elf, Wood Elf or Khajiit. In Crown store there is a pack Called Any Alliance, Any Race you can get. Alliance and Race can be changed later with a token.

Class… now unlike Alliance and Race, Class can not be changed. You can choose from 4 of the 6 major classes; DragonKnight, Sorcerer, Nightblade and Templar. Warden and Necromancer may be available depending again on what edition you have.

(Note: Summerset edition gives you Warden class, Elsweyr gives you Necromancer. You can still buy the discs from online retailers that have a code and also opens those areas)

Your Character:

Once you’ve done the above you can start making your character. TAKE YOUR TIME DOING THIS! Trust me here!

Take your time and be creative! Let me say this again… Take your time and be creative!

Certain options you can select like body markings, adornment, hair style, head markings, can be added to with items from the crown store OR that you earn in game.

There is one key selection you can make that is often overlooked and that is VOICE. Go through the selections and listen to them. You’ll thank me later since some can be very annoying to be stuck with LOL

Name… one would think this would be pretty easy however with millions playing names can be difficult to create so have a few ideas ready! You can also add like a Last Name to your character which can help greatly!

Stating the Game - Isle of Balfiera

Starting the tutorial… Do Not Skip This! If you are just starting out or experienced, I highly recommend you play this through on each character you create.

If you know other players and just joining, ask them to send you an XP boost potion, many can make them, and they are available at guild traders. Getting one will help you level up before leaving the tutorial area!

Waking up and options to set or look at before you start:

Open your menu and go to Options, from there my recommendations are the following:

1. Gameplay:
A. Prevent Attacking Innocents = On
B. Auto Loot = On (you can destroy anything you don’t want. If you’re a Plus member there are a lot of supplies you can farm in this area!)
C. Auto Loot stolen Items = You may want this one off so you can see what you want to steal
D. Prevent Stealing Placed Items = On (I say on since it’s very easy to pick up and steal things at guild traders or the bank which will get you a bounty!)

2. Interface:
A. Display Name: You can choose what you want displayed, Character name or GamerTag

3. NamePlates:
A. NamePlates = On
B. Title = On (You will earn titles you can change)
C. Self and items below = Always
D. Healthbars = On
E. Self and items Below = Always

4. Social:
A. Hud Chat Display = On
B. Profanity Filter = Your choice
C. LeaderBoard = Off
D. Auto-Decline Duels = On
E. Auto-Decline Tales of Tribute = On

5. Combat:
A. Ability Bar = Always Show
B. Ability Bar Timers = On
C. Attribute Bars = always show
D. Resource Numbers = Numbers and Percent
E. Ultimate Number = On
F. Combat Text = ALL ON all the way down
G. Buffs & Debuffs = Turn them all to on

The above is recommended so you can see your overall health, stamina and magicka along with other quick stats. You can always adjust them later. Now you’re ready to start!

After leaving your cell you can start immediately looking around and scrounging urns! In them you’ll find plenty of things from recipes, armor, weapons, crafting material and more.

Now depending on your character race and class and what you want to do, picking up things you won’t use isn’t helpful right yet.

Go around and search the urns, get lockpicks for sure since you will go into a trivial locked room and you can get a set of armor and a new weapon that matches your character and benefits them better!
Heading out to the open area you can get around and make a pretty good lap killing everything to earn XP. Enemy respawn quickly here and you can level up and earn skill points to select skills for your character.

It’s very easy to get to level 10 here but you will learn and upgrade your skills fighting which is key.

Once you get up to level 9 just talk to Norianwe and follow what she wants you to do and complete this. Once you do and speak to her where you select where you want to start and be transported to, you’ll level up and should hit level 10. (If not head back out and do some more damage, it’s up to you).

Why level up in tutorial area?
1. It’s easy
2. You learn your skills
3. You earn skill points
4. At level 10 you can go to Cyrodiil to get Alliance skill line

Picking your area:
You can pick any area, I like starting Morrowind since it’s easy to navigate to get crucial things started!

First, after reaching level 10 and after picking where you want to start, open your menu and click Campaigns. You can go into any of them and don’t worry about PvP! Your going there to do the quest called Reporting for Duty. There you will receive your Alliance Skill Line.

Why is this a good thing? Alliance Skill Line and the passive skill (1 point) under Alliance War > Assault is Continuous Attack. This gives you major gallop at all times, increasing your Mount Speed by 30%. (Note if you get a crafter set of Adept Rider it will also give you this and most guilds should be able to make you a set).

This has been a long Part 1 and Part 2 will be coming soon! If you have any questions so far let me know!

Part 2 will cover easy to get skill lines, starting writs, and game basics to help you on your journey!
