The Last Post.
Will add the final numbers tomorrow.
And, tomorrow should see us (Me, Dylan, and the Caravan) back home.
My trip would never have happened without the support of Jane. Very few wives or partners would let that happen. So, thank you Babe. It was above and beyond.
Thank you to Timothy and Lauren. You didn’t know you were inspiring me, but you were. You were also there the whole way through the planning of it, encouraging me every step of the way. A big shout out to Bill, Laurens Dad. When the wheels of this endeavor were falling off, literally, you got me sorted and on the way.
And a big thank you to all who followed my journey. Your ‘likes’, ‘loves’, and ‘comments’ meant so much to me every day.
Favorite caravan parks. Shoreline at Port Augusta. Great spot and everything worked. Also, Nhill Caravan Park. Stayed both ways. Quiet, overlooks a park and they set the bar high for the amenities.
Also, close. Wilcannia. Stop 6. A little gem. Didn’t feel like a caravan park but a picnic spot. Backed up on the Darling River. Had the weather been warm I would have stayed there for days. Quiet and serene.
Looking back, what will I think of first?
Driving into the Northern Territory from Queensland. The incredible vastness of the sky and red earth. A picture repeated often on the way down into South Australia.
A hill outside Broken Hill, The Living Desert and Sculptures. I don’t have the words for how it made me feel. The world looked so big standing there and I felt so small.
Winton Rodeo. OMG. It was outrageous and fun.
Simpson Gap, near Alice Springs. So very beautiful. And able to share being there with Jane.
And of course, Goanna.
Man Made?
‘The Stockmans Hall of Fame’ at Longreach. Magnificent and classy. Did not expect that.
Why did I go, what was I thinking?
It was crazy, it was scary, it was fun, it was confronting, and times it was hard, and it has also changed the way I think about many things. But isn’t that just what we do. Now time to make some plans for the next adventure. The next one with Jane.
So, thank you all again. Cheers. Elwyn.
