Q: "What should we do this weekend?"
It's a perpetual question. I can't answer it for you, but I can help you find some great events and inspiration in places you might not know or think to look:
Travel Wisconsin, the Wisconsin Department of Tourism's website, maintains a regular list of events. This is a good place to find big things, like festivals: https://www.travelwisconsin.com/
Local tourism bureaus: Particularly if you're near a metro area, there's probably a local organization that's trying to attract visitors, like www.greenbay.com or www.visitmadison.com .
County and municipal sites: Frequently, your city/town/village will have a website with a central events calendar, much of which will be city council meetings and the like. But some include events at your local public library or parks and rec departments. If not, search online for your public library or parks and rec websites or social media accounts, which probably list their upcoming events.
Your county's website might have something similar. But even if it doesn't have an events website, it'll probably have lots of information that can spark an idea. For instance, the Marathon County (Wausau area) website has a ton of suggestions about what to do and where to do it, at www.marathoncounty.gov/recreation/things-to-do , from pickleball and bird watching or horse trails and a shooting range.
And speaking of parks ... here's where you can find fun things happening in Wisconsin's state parks! dnr.wisconsin.gov/events
Don't overlook the universities! The Universities of Wisconsin campuses have loads of events going on at all times, and they're not just for students! Find a campus at wisconsin.edu/campuses , then click on the university and search for the events calendar. From art exhibits and sporting events to public classes and visiting musicians, you'll be amazed at all they offer.
Beyond that, check out specific event locations to see what they have coming up. (This is a bit easier if you're from Wisconsin and know what to search up.) Some suggestions: Fiserv Forum and the Wisconsin State Fair Park in the Milwaukee area and the Overture Center in Madison or Weidner Center in Green Bay.
And if all else fails, Google and social media are your friend! Just search "area where you're visiting" and ... comedy clubs, live shows or simply "events".
Whatever you're doing this weekend, even if you're just chilling at home, I hope it's a great one. 😊
