The Brownfields Community Assessment meeting will be on Thursday, August 8th from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Washington Community Center. Representatives from the new business in town Southland Industrial Coatings will have a booth at the meeting.

The Brownfields Community Assessment Initiative identifies and evaluates areas in need of revitalization to stimulate economic growth and enhance the overall quality of life. The initiative is especially focused on properties that are vacant or underutilized where environmental concerns are inhibiting the reuse or expanded use of the site. The meeting is intended to engage residents, business and property owners, local officials and other stakeholders on potential redevelopment opportunities and considerations within the community

Representatives with Southland Industrial Coatings, the new manufacturing industry scheduled to locate in Washington, will be visiting during the meeting.

American Legion Jasper Neyland Post 209 will host a barbecue dinner sale on Saturday, August 3, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Chicken or pork dinners will be sold for $12. Proceeds from the fundraiser will be dedicated toward renovation of the American Legion Property.

WASHINGTON, La. – Southland Industrial Coatings announced it is investing $13.1 million to construct a new fireproofing facility in St. Landry Parish that will serve customers in the utility and renewable energy industries nationwide.

The Town of Washington Public Works department is currently working on a major water line issue on Hwy 103. Water service is out for customers located from the I-49 exit ramp, along Hwy 103 to the Bayou Courtableau bridge. Repair may take several hours.
