Rented bear spray at the local outfitter Bear Aware, another bargain in our humble opinion.
Flew into Jackson Hole Sept 3, did a quick drive thru GT, stayed at Hampton Inn in JH, very nice and we used our Hilton points. Nice grocery store nearby so we grabbed a jar of peanut butter, loaf of bread and some other snacks and fruits for our lunches. Wednesday - Jenny Lake boat ride hiked to Inspiration Point. Whew! But just beautiful. Took the Moose/Wilson road leaving the park to explore and that's where we found a bear munching on berries right at the side of the road, we could have reached out and touched him/her, and a moose and her calf. Highly recommend this slow going road.
Thursday Teton Village and took the tram up the mountain for the view and the waffles. Watched hang gliders going down the mountain. Well worth the time to do this, the views again are spectacular! Then more wandering around GT, Mormon Row and such. Drove to Cody, WY for the evening by entering Yellowstone and then exiting and driving Chief Joseph Scenic Highway. Lodging was at the Hampton Inn and by golly, it was the nicest Hampton Inn we have ever stayed at in our 40+ years of traveling.
Friday Buffalo Bill Museum (which is 5 museums in one) in the morning and lunch at the Irma Hotel. Then back on the road to Yellowstone. We were booked for a hotel in Bozeman for the next two nights but upon realizing how large YS was hubby called and found us lodging in the Park at Canyon Lodge for the next two nights - separate reservations so we had to check out and check back in - BUT saved us so much driving in and out of the park. Canyon Lodge was very comfortable even without A/C. Good wifi as well.
Saturday Completed most of the lower loop that day - everything was spectacular and our weather was in the low 80's - dinner at Canyon Lodge dining was as good as you can expect considering the number of people that it accommodates. (remember the dining hall in college?)
Sunday was the upper loop, hot hot day, ice cream in Mammoth Hot Springs hit the spot but we drove down to Grant Village for the street tacos for dinner. Yes our driving route was a bit w***y nilly. Highly recommend the tacos though! Then out the North Entrance headed to Livingston, MT to stay @ Under Canvas North Yellowstone Paradise Valley for two nights. Wow, what a treat and a splurge but it was so fun. No electricity in the tents but again excellent wifi. Used the stove for warmth Tuesday morning!
Monday was a leisurely day in the park to finish off what we hadn't seen. Mostly Fairy Falls overlook, but alas there was a huge bison traffic jam that prevented us from making it to that. Tuesday Flew out of Bozeman and easily turned in our bear spray at the fire station right by the airport. Would we do it again? ABSOLUTELY! Because we did not see wolves, sigh.
