Official statement-

The Walt Disney World theme parks, Disney Springs and possibly other areas will reopen on Friday, October 11.

We’re grateful Walt Disney World weathered the storm, and we are currently assessing the impacts to our property to prepare for reopening the theme parks, Disney Springs and possibly other areas tomorrow, Oct. 11. Our hearts are with our fellow Floridians who were impacted by this storm.

From Disney Destinations-

We continue to closely monitor the path of Hurricane Milton. Based on the latest projection, we are making additional operational adjustments for the safety of our Guests and Cast Members beginning tomorrow, Oct. 9.

The Walt Disney World Emergency Operations Center is connected to weather experts and community leaders. Please know these adjustments have been made in order to leave plenty of time for our Guests and Cast Members to return to their Resort hotels or homes safely hours before higher winds are expected to reach Central Florida.

Operational Impacts Include:

🌀 Walt Disney World Theme Parks-
On Oct. 9, our theme parks and Disney Springs will be closed in phases beginning at 1 p.m. Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disney’s Animal Kingdom will close at 1 p.m. Magic Kingdom, EPCOT and Disney Springs will close at 2 p.m.It is likely the theme parks will remain closed on Thursday, Oct. 10. We will consider opening Disney Springs Thursday late afternoon with limited offerings.

This includes the cancellation of Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party at Magic Kingdom on Oct. 10. Event tickets will be refunded.

🌀 Disney Resort Hotel Closures-
Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground and the Treehouse Villas at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa will temporarily close beginning at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 9. They are likely to remain closed until Sunday, Oct. 13.

🌀 Transportation-
Walt Disney World Transportation will stop operating Wednesday, Oct. 9 after Disney Springs and the Walt Disney World theme parks close. Limited Minnie Van and Mears taxi service will be available to Walt Disney World Resort Guests.

🌀 Recreation-
Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon, Winter Summerland Miniature Golf and Fantasia Gardens Miniature Golf will be closed on Wednesday, Oct. 9. Disney’s Blizzard Beach remains closed for planned refurbishment.
Reservations for Dining and Other Experiences

Effective immediately, Disney will not enforce cancellation policies until further notice for dining and other experiences. Pre-paid bookable experiences will be automatically refunded within 7 to 10 business days.

Due to potential weather impacts to guest travel plans, change and cancellation fees imposed by Disney will be waived for check-in dates of Tuesday, 10/8 - Monday, 10/14.

When's the best time to visit?

This is perhaps one of the most frequently asked questions as an agent that specializes in Disney and frequent Disney-goer. It's not so simple to answer at times, because things change so much with crowd patterns- as you can see by this photo- the week you visit DOES matter!

I visit year round on various weeks. My personal favorite time to visit is end of January or beginning of February. The weather is cool, crowds are light, and prices are lower! If you'd like warmer weather and still want lighter crowds, the middle of May before most of the US is out of school is a wonderful time to go.

Some key things to note when picking a week to visit:

-The Summer months are HOT and HUMID and RAINY in Central FL

-Christmas IS very magical. But crowded. It sounds like a great idea to take the family during Christmas since you're out of school and work for an extended time. Just note that the rest of the country has the same idea. LOL. If you want the Christmas magic without the crowd and price hikes, I recommend the first or second week of December.

-All pools on Disney property are heated, so even if you go during a cooler month, you can still swim! Might be a bit chilly getting out of the water, but I've gone for a dip in February before. If your kids are like mine, she'd swim with blue lips. Ha!

- The Atlantic hurricane season begins June 1 and ends November 30 of each year. Historically, the most active time for hurricane development is mid-August through mid-October. However, Disney has a VERY generous modification and cancellation policy for weather, and chances are you'll have notice before a big storm hits.

-DO NOT let a red or yellow week scare you into not visiting. If these are the only times you can visit due to work or school commitments, you CAN and WILL still have a wonderful time. A crowd level prediction is by no means an indicator of long you'll have to wait for attractions. I have a great handle on how to make the most of my time, so even when I've gone on red weeks, I've had time to ride what I want, eat what I want, and still have time for breaks. I spill my best tips and tricks to my clients so they can maximize their time. By using my services, you will be more than prepared for crowds, weather, and everything in between!
