🎶 Love is in the air, everywhere we look around
Love is in the air, in every course we've helped found
And we don't know why we're so different, don't know why others don't heed
But it's something that we just believe in, to create what our customers need
Praise fills our hearts, as the feedback lights our way
Success in every part, guiding learners every day
And the reason we love to keep helping, making clients learning bright
It's something that we just believe in, that training should be a delight 🎶

We’re closing out our 2023 Tribal Habits update series with a bang 💥 looking at some of the most popular latest customisation features to personalise the platform to your organisation.
🔸 Custom Domains
You can create a custom/vanity url for your portal to ‘mask’ your Tribal Habits domain with a domain of your own. Such as training.[yourorg].com.au
🔸 Advanced Custom Fields
We have significantly upgraded the custom fields functionality in the platform. There are now four types of custom fields, including numbers, dates and lists. List fields can have customised items, allowing user data to be set by drop-downs. Makes for much cleaner data, and easier to update.
🔸 Custom OAuth 2.0 login
We can now support custom OAuth 2.0 authorisation processes for user logins. This feature is particularly useful if your organisation uses another platform to create its users and that platform can act as an OAuth 2.0 identify provider. 🤓
Aaand… 🥁
🔸 Released Today! Custom Certificates 🥳
One of our most eagerly awaited releases this year – Custom Certificates – is finally here! After numerous requests, we’re thrilled to sneak this feature into 2023’s lineup. Now, you can design unique certificates with different backgrounds and create specific certificates for each topic or pathway.
There's a lot more personalisation features coming in the new year too!

All this week we’re taking a look back at 2023's notable enhancements in Tribal Habits. Today, we're spotlighting new tools for assessors and admins.
🔸 Groups for Strategic Management
Our new Groups feature is ideal for larger organisations seeking to manage user visibility for regional or divisional admins and assessors. Designed for Active 50 subscriptions and above, this feature is great for segmenting users by location, division, or cohort.
https://support.tribalhabits.com/en/articles/7981563-what-does-the-groups-feature-do-how-can-i-restrict-admins-or-assessors-to-specific-groups
🔸 Streamlined Self Registration with Tokens
As a more secure method to facilitating external users' self-registration into training, we introduced Self Registration Tokens. These tokens allow new or existing users to self-register and enrol in specific training modules, complete with usage limits, date restrictions, and tracking options.
https://support.tribalhabits.com/en/articles/7184350-how-can-new-users-self-enrol-or-self-register-as-learners
🔸 Enhanced Assessor Capabilities
- Comprehensive File Uploads: Assessors can now upload files across Tasks, Uploads, and Q&A, offering detailed feedback.
- Dashboard and Notification Upgrades: The 'Assess' dashboard tab and notifications for pending assessments streamline the assessment workflow.
- Improved Assessment Layout: The new layout for reviewing submissions boosts the efficiency of the assessment process.

🔸 Managed Integrations for Seamless Data Sync
Another significant update this year is our Managed Integrations. These robust integrations with the help of our friends at Workato facilitate a seamless 'data sync' between platforms such as your HRIS.
- Reduced Effort: Admins no longer need to manually upload or create new users. Users are automatically created and updated in Tribal Habit
This week we’re taking a moment to look back at the year for Tribal Habits. Today we’re focusing on updates to our editable library, a key feature included in our subscriptions.
We’ve added 60+ titles including a popular new suite of Hospitality courses, R U OK Conversation training, Helping vulnerable callers & Handling upset callers.
There was also important updates to a number of WHS courses, following the Respect@Work Sexual Harassment National Inquiry Report, and new legislation for psychosocial hazards and responsibilities for organisations.
All compliance topics are reviewed by McCullough Robertson (Aus) and Dentons (NZ) so that you don’t have to.
Because all of our courses are built within the platform, you’re able to edit and add to any part of them you like—or just use them as they are.

New Elements.mp4
This week we’re looking back at new features added to the Tribal Habits platform this year. Today we’re highlighting some of the most popular new building-blocks for the course editor. 🎉
🔸 Fill-In
You can present learners with a question and they have to type a response that matches a list of acceptable answers. You can create math questions but also single word responses or fill in the blanks. As a quiz, its also fully accessible in the assessment!
🔸 Sort
This interaction allows a creator to display 2-4 categories and a series of randomly selected items which the explorer must sort into the correct category.
In the new year we’ll be adding a new building-block for branching scenarios, which we’re really excited about. 🎉
All of the updates are available in our change log

2023 saw a lot of updates and new features in the Tribal Habits platform, this week we’re highlighting some of the most popular ones.
Given the amount of learner data the platform stores, what better place to start than all the new analytics reports added. We’ve been busy! The most popular new reports have been the Certification Report and the Completion - Groups report:
🔸 Certification - offers a great overview of enrolments by certification dates. You get visual clarity into every learner's progression, neatly organised in one place.
Colour coded statuses include:
🟢 Certified (Green): Current and completed.
🟢 Renewing (Green): Lapsed but retaking the enrolment.
🟠 Underway (Orange): Actively pursuing certification.
🔴 Overdue (Red): Uncertified and overdue on current enrolment.
🔴 Expired (Red): No future certified date and not enrolled to renew.
Like all reports you can filter by knowledge (topic, article or pathway), people, groups, roles and categories. Save your favourite filters, and download the report as a CSV file.
Learn more about this report here:

It’s unlikely that every user logs in each and every month to do training.
You’re more likely to have somewhere between 30-80% login each month, (perhaps more in some months depending on compliance obligations).
More Learning Platforms are starting to adopt active user pricing models like us which is great! No one should have to pay for storing users, or need to delete users & their learning history to free up seats. We think you should store as much as you like and just be charged for those who are actually using your platform.
But a word of caution, Be SUPER CLEAR on what they are defining as an “Active User”
For us:
An active user is someone who logs into to your portal at least one time during the month. There’s no limits to how much training they can do or create. If they don’t login during that month, they don’t count.
We’ve seen some definitions including things like: a user is active if they are sent a notification, or are enrolled in a topic—regardless of whether they actually login or not.
That would mean if you need to send everyone in the platform a notification or enrol them in a topic, you’d have 100% active users that month, even if none of them login—not really in the spirit of an active user.

20+ years ago when online training was emerging, the tool to build the course was separate from the Learning Management System (LMS) as it was before cloud computing so you needed a desktop application with enough grunt.
So you’d build the course in your desktop application, then you’d export that course (usually in a format called SCORM), and upload that SCORM file into your online LMS.
Annoyingly if you wanted to make a change to your course—however small—you’d need to go back to your authoring tool, make the change, then re-export the SCORM file, then upload it into the LMS again. Eurgh.
Fast forward to now…
…That’s still how most traditional LMS platforms work today 🤯
If you were to design it all again with the resources we have now, you’d never have the two parts separate.
Some traditional LMS platforms have tried to remedy this by tacking on some basic course authoring ability (we’re talking text, a file upload, maybe a simple quiz), but anything more complicated you’re still stuck with building something elsewhere to import.
As a modern learning platform, we built interactive course creation into the foundation of Tribal Habits, and wrapped the learning management around it.
You want to make a change to a course? You just make the change and hit publish.
And it’s not just efficiency. Having the two parts together opens a world of learning data you just can not get with SCORM.
SCORM has really limited visibility when it comes to learner data. It’s pretty much: completion Y/N, Date & Score.
You also can’t incorporate social learning as each learner is trapped in their own little SCORM bubble.
Having it all in one system means you can track ALL of the data. Every answer to every question or interaction in every topic, and report and filter based on any user field.
Plus you can incorporate social learning with elements like forums, up-votes, polls and open questions that let learners see how others answer.
And lastly,
We offer a number of robust managed integrations between Tribal Habits and your SSO or HR platforms.
These integrations sync your user data from your HR system into your Tribal Habits portal, automating the creation, updating, and deactivation of users including their custom fields. This is not only a massive time saver for Admins but also ensures data consistency across platforms.
Here are several key benefits of this type of data integration:
🔶 Effort:
Integrating Tribal Habits with your SSO or HR platform eliminates the need for Admins to manually create or upload new users. Users are automatically populated in Tribal Habits from your SSO or HR platform.Bonus: you can set up automation rules to enrol staff in training based on criteria (such as role or location) as they are created.
🔶 Consistency:
As user details in your SSO or HR platform change – such as a new location or job title – your users in Tribal Habits are automatically updated. This ensures your HR platform remains a single, reliable source of truth, and also enhances reporting capabilities with more accurate, up-to-date information.
🔶 Security:
The integration also addresses the issue of deactivated users in your HR platform, automatically deactivating them in Tribal Habits for added security and operational accuracy.
Our dedicated integration platform 'manages' these integrations, allowing us to customise or alter your integration to suit your specific needs.
These managed integrations are compatible with popular SSO and HR platforms like intelliHR, foundU, Employment Hero, BambooHR, and Azure AD. They are ready-made, tested, and easy to set up.
If you’d like to learn more about our integrations / see if we can integrate with your HR platform and want to cut down on your admin and improve data consistency—we’d be happy to chat with you!

Learning Management Systems (LMS) are seen as a tool for managing specialised training and compliance, crafted by external learning designers.
This can often lead to training that is less relevant and feels like more of a 'tick-box' exercise. A necessary evil that teams do not look forward to. It misses the potential as a great way to share internal knowledge.
Every organisation has its unique way of getting things done. And usually this valuable knowledge is tucked away in the minds of a few, and scattered across various process docs, PDFs, and presentations. This creates internal silos and duplicated effort.
With this big disconnect, we saw an opportunity: Who better to explain your processes than your own internal experts? They just needed a better tool to do that.
Our learning platform was designed to help capture and share the tacit knowledge within an organisation. The platform makes it super fast & easy for anyone to bring together all that knowledge in an engaging, trackable, secure, and well-organised way without needing to be a learning expert. We then wrapped it with a fully featured LMS to make it easy to deliver and manage that knowledge within the organisation.
Today's workforce is increasingly embracing a 'DIY' mentality. It's all about efficiency and empowerment, favouring a 'done is better than perfect' mindset.
So, why not consider creating your training in-house?
🔶 Leveraging internal expertise:
Your team members are navigating your organisation’s unique challenges every day. They're best placed to create content that is accurate, relevant, and context specific.
🔶 Create ownership & engagement:
When your team is involved in crafting the training, it boosts ownership and engagement.
🔶 Quick turnaround times:
Making content in-house means quick adjustments or new training material can be added as needed – no waiting on external providers.
🔶 Security & control:
Online training means security, version control, and the a
ICYMI: Australia's new Respect@Work Act has shifted from a complaint-based system to one actively preventing discriminatory and harassing conduct in the workplace. Responsibility now lies with organisations to protect employees from internal and third-party harassment.
The Fair Work Act also now explicitly prohibits sexual harassment, with expanded protections for gender identity, intersex status, and breastfeeding.
Tribal Habits' included library of training & compliance courses were updated in line with these changes. Specifically:
🔶 Sexual harassment awareness for employees
🔶 Sexual harassment awareness for managers
🔶 Anti-bullying & anti-harassment for employees
🔶 Anti-bullying & anti-harassment for managers

It's not apples to apples out there.
We've looked at a lot of "course builders" in different learning management systems on the market.
- Most offer just a basic text editor
- Some will let you upload images & audio, or link to videos
- A few let you upload SCORM files or embed H5P content (but is that 'building'? )
- Add a basic quiz
- Upload a pdf file
...And that's about it 😬
Meanwhile, the Tribal Habits course builder has 50+ layout blocks (and counting!) to create your own interactive training content. Every build is automatically mobile-friendly, accessible, and in your branding. There's also a built in AI chatbot to give real-time help and advice to make your courses better.
We use the same powerful course builder to make our included course library—which means that you can make copies and edit any part you like. It's as simple as editing powerpoint slides.
There are some platforms for course authoring, but they are missing the LMS part. We believe in a unified approach. Having it all-in-one allows for robust learning data, engaging social learning, and significantly reduces admin time.
(and yes, you can still upload SCORM or embed H5P if you like)
#AustralianLMS #OnlineTraining #AllInOne
When you're converting existing content to online training (or starting something new), we always recommend planning and 'chunking' your content. Here's why 👇
🔶 Better engagement: No one likes getting smacked in the face with a wall of text. Learners might skim or lose focus with dense content. Breaking it down into smaller, easy-to-digest sections helps keep your learners engaged and interested.
🔶 Effective assessments and self-checks: It makes it easier to add mini-assessments throughout the course letting the learner check their understanding & review any content before moving on, instead of relying solely on one big quiz at the end.
🔶 Improved pacing: Using natural breaks in the content creates a well-paced learning experience, like chapters in a book. It's easier for learners to manage their time and absorb the material. If the entire course takes 50 minutes but they only have 20 minutes, they might avoid starting or rush through without retaining much information.
🔶 Boosted motivation and sense of achievement: Breaking a course into smaller modules lets learners experience more frequent "wins" as they complete each section. This sense of accomplishment can boost motivation and encourage them to keep progressing. Offering tangible milestones creates a more engaging and rewarding learning experience.
🔶 Easier course maintenance and updates: A modular approach makes it simpler to maintain and update courses. You can revise or replace specific parts without disrupting the entire course, ensuring that the content stays current and relevant.
What would you add?

For when that topic would be better if you could update a scenario to be more specific to what you do.
...Or add in your policy document with an acknowledgment checkbox at the end.
...Or use a topic as a base template and change most of it!
All of our library topics are built with the same authoring tool you create content with in Tribal Habits, so it's no different to having access to the source files. Change what you like! 🙌

Tired of scrolling through an endless course library filled with duplicates & irrelevant content?
We may not have thousands of courses, but the 200+ we have are full interactive modules that Australian & NZ businesses need. This includes Australian and NZ compliance—checked and approved by lawyers. We'll keep adding new titles as needed.
No filler content, just the hits.
Best of all... THEY CAN ALL BE EDITED. All of it. You can customise each library course to fit your exact needs and it shows in branding as though you made it.
Pay for what you need, not everything.

Be wary when an LMS vendor says you can 'create content' on their platform.
What they usually mean is:
🫤 You can upload a course you made elsewhere (eg SCORM)
🫤 Or they have a really basic editor that you can put text and images, maybe a quiz. (it's kinda like notepad calling itself a desktop publishing suite)
🫤 Or Upload Video or H5P content (again, that you 'create' somewhere else)
What WE mean:
🥳 You can CREATE content with over 50 interactive building-block elements (flip cards, timelines, match, accordions, hotspot etc)
🥳 A guided process with an AI learning coach so you don't need to be a learning expert
🥳 Add social learning, so users can see peer responses and participate in live polls
🥳 Accessibility - WCAG compliant
🥳 Version control
🥳 Mobile responsive
🥳 Learner forum
🥳 Incorporate offline tasks that can be uploaded and assessed in the course
🥳 Use our library content to edit and make your own
(and you, can upload video, H5P, SCORM etc too)
