Not all LMSs are right for you.

Some will promise you the world but fall short. Others are actually decent solutions and truly care about you, but never seem to fit 100% comfortably. Others can be a temporary solution or just end up on a different path to you, like ships passing in the night. 🚢

How do you know if there is another solution you’re missing out on? Could the grass be greener on the other side?

Take our quick test to see if your LMS is truly ✨ THE ONE ✨ for you...

✅ Can anyone build content with or without L&D expertise?
✅ Does it come with an editable training library, including Australian and NZ compliance?
✅ Does your LMS have easy automations, notifications and custom certificates?
✅ Are you only committed to paying for what you actually use?
✅ Is the reporting rich with learner analytics, offering actionable insights?
✅ Is support local and have learning expertise?
✅ Can you connect easily with your HRIS?

If your current platform isn’t making your ❤️ skip a beat, maybe it’s time to find true love elsewhere.

If you answered ‘no’ to any of these and are still on the hunt for ✨ THE ONE ✨ we know a platform that ticks all the boxes. 😉

Still using SCORM to create your online training?

While SCORM has definitely been the cornerstone of the eLearning industry in previous years, it is now very old technology and has a lot of limitations:

1️⃣ Editing is NOT an option with SCORM files. Any course modifications require going back to the original authoring tool, then re-exporting as newly edited SCORM files. This process makes quick updates cumbersome.

2️⃣ The data returned to the Learning Management System (LMS) is very minimal - often just completion date and score. Insightful learner analytics like quiz answers aren't shared, limiting actionable insights to improve your courses.

3️⃣ Each learner must download the entire SCORM file, including all multimedia content to run it, leading to large downloads and slower speeds, affecting user experience.

4️⃣ SCORM doesn't accommodate social learning. The experience remains insular, keeping each learner in their own bubble.

Unsurprisingly, we encourage our clients to move their existing training away from SCORM so they can create better learning experiences, cut down on admin and improve their learning programs.

But we understand making the switch doesn't happen overnight, so we still support it.

The good news? SCORM isn't all-or-nothing. Our course builder incorporates SCORM as one of its many building blocks. This means you can wrap a SCORM file inside a Tribal Habits course, adding extra content and questions at the start or end. The limitations of the SCORM part don't apply to the supplemental content, giving you greater control and benefits from insights. This is great as a midway point while transitioning.

Remember,

but it doesn't mean you have to be stuck with it forever.

KPMG’s annual “Keeping Us Up At Night” business survey revealed...

🥁

ROI for Digital Transformation and Optimisation as the number one business challenge expected by 53% of organisations in 2025!

Followed closely by cyber security, inflation concerns and AI adoption, these expected challenges reflect the complex interplay between technological advancements, economic constraints and societal shifts that organisations must navigate this coming year.

It’s understandable organisations struggle with busy teams and don’t have time to explore the digital transformation opportunities available to them. We know digital transformation strategies greatly improve a company’s internal processes, significantly increase productivity and therefore revenue. But the barrier to achieving this seems to be spending the necessary time to wade through the ‘noise’ and find the right solution that ticks all the boxes. For the record, Tribal Habits is 100% transparent about all aspects of our product, including outlining our features and pricing on our website - so you can get a clear initial idea of whether our solution is right for your organisation.

The rise of AI in the survey is also interesting. We all know of it’s potential to completely transform the way we do business. Along with most organisations, Tribal Habits has invested significantly in this area and has smartly and ethically added AI features to our product. We can see in separate research conducted by KPMG and in our own customer experience, returns on AI investment are either meeting or exceeding expectations.

To us, this survey highlights the importance of business flexibility, resilience, and forward-thinking leadership. By focusing on working smarter in these areas, organisations can turn challenges into opportunities for sustainable growth in 2025 and beyond.

Do you find yourself using the same content building features every time? Try this new one…

Our new 🎬 SLIDESHOW 🎬 element is now available!

Our first new feature to kick off 2025 🎉 this element allows creators to add up to 20 images into a scrolling slideshow, including captions!

Additionally, the Slideshow element includes navigation controls, enabling learners to move forward or backward through the slides as needed.

This format is especially beneficial for visual learners, as it helps break down complex information into digestible sections, allowing learners to absorb content at their own pace.

Check out this support article for a more detailed guide on implementing this new feature in your course-building repertoire: https://support.tribalhabits.com/en/articles/10298218-what-is-the-slideshow-element-used-for

The Slideshow element allows course creators to present information to learners using a series of slides.

Let's talk integrations! We offer a number of robust managed integrations between Tribal Habits and your SSO or HR platforms.

These integrations sync your user data from your HR system into your Tribal Habits portal, automating the creation, updating, and deactivation of users including their custom fields. This is not only a massive time saver for Admins but also ensures data consistency across platforms.

Here are several key benefits of this type of data integration:

🔶 Effort:

Integrating Tribal Habits with your SSO or HR platform eliminates the need for Admins to manually create or upload new users. Users are automatically populated in Tribal Habits from your SSO or HR platform.Bonus: you can set up automation rules to enrol staff in training based on criteria (such as role or location) as they are created.

🔶 Consistency:

As user details in your SSO or HR platform change – such as a new location or job title – your users in Tribal Habits are automatically updated. This ensures your HR platform remains a single, reliable source of truth, and also enhances reporting capabilities with more accurate, up-to-date information.

🔶 Security:

The integration also addresses the issue of deactivated users in your HR platform, automatically deactivating them in Tribal Habits for added security and operational accuracy.

Our dedicated integration platform 'manages' these integrations, allowing us to customise or alter your integration to suit your specific needs.

These managed integrations are compatible with popular SSO and HR platforms like intelliHR, foundU, Employment Hero, BambooHR, and Azure AD. They are ready-made, tested, and easy to set up.

👉 So, if you’d like to learn more about our integrations / see if we can integrate with your HR platform and want to cut down on your admin and improve data consistency—we’d be happy to chat with you!

We're proud to be an Australian owned and built LMS, and there’s a lot of benefits for our Australian clients:

🐨 All of the data is hosted here, not offshore.

🦘 Our staff including sales and support teams are based here and respond quickly during your office hours.

🐨 Our huge, included compliance library is based on Australian legislation and best practices and is checked by Australian lawyers (even includes some versions for specific states where necessary.)

🔑🟤 Since quite a few Australian businesses also have offices across the pond, we've created New Zealand compliance courses (checked by NZ lawyers) to cover them too.

🦘 We’re genuinely invested in helping other Aussie businesses succeed.

🐨 We'll happily chat to you about sport (especially if our team happened to beat yours 😏)

🦘We rapidly implement new features based on client feedback to help you train staff better than ever.

From all of us at Tribal Habits, we wish our customers and friends a wonderful weekend!

We see this a lot when onboarding and implementing new clients! ☺️

Important research you should be conducting when considering new software!

We have a theory about the kind of support that software companies should be offering. And it might not be what you would expect.

We’re often asked this question and it makes us smile every time - “Do you offer 24/7 support?”

Sounds ideal in theory, right? Support on tap whenever you need it, ready to serve your business at any time of the day or night. Even at 3am on a random Tuesday!

In reality though, around the clock support offers up the following challenges:
❓ Is it support in the true sense, or is it simply an acknowledgement of your issue and escalating it elsewhere?
❓ Long wait times for responses
❓ How long until your issue is actually resolved? Days? Weeks?
❓ Low satisfaction ratings
❓ Skeleton staff or offshore team servicing outside business hours that aren’t as familiar with the platform

It’s also important to consider what your provider’s business hours are because if they’re located overseas, they simply may not accomodate yours! We suggest you dig deeper into response and resolution times, satisfaction ratings and availability during your business hours for a clearer picture of whether the solution you’re considering is the right one for your organisation.

If you’re considering a software solution, the question shouldn’t be if they have 24/7 support - the question should be if the support they provide is fit-for-purpose, delivers beyond your expectations and offers you a five-star support experience!

PS: Support from Tribal Habits is open during Australian business hours. Our report card from the last 6 months: we've averaged a response time of 5 minutes 38 seconds, avg resolution time of 1 hour 50 minutes, and a satisfaction score of 98.7% positive with 1.3% neutral responses.

Tribal Habits now supports multiple languages in more ways!

Tribal Habits has always maintained a default language of English. We’ve also supported content shown in English as well as other languages - up until now, you could use your own translation services or existing content in languages other than English, and still build a course around it. However...

🥁 drum roll 🥁

Learners can now view certain areas of your portal in a growing selection of other languages! 🎉 🎉 🎉

Admins and creators still create in English, but once settings for the learner are changed to reflect their preferred language, they will then see certain system content as well as training content in their set language.

You can see the latest list of available user languages in the ‘Language’ drop down menu on each user profile, and you can also pre-set languages for each user via CSV upload. The current languages we have available are:

🇦🇺 English
🇫🇷 French
🇩🇪 German
🇪🇸 Spanish
🇮🇹 Italian
🇯🇵 Japanese
..with new ones being added soon.

More detail about what parts of the system are available in multiple languages is here: https://support.tribalhabits.com/en/articles/10220637-how-does-tribal-habits-support-multiple-languages

❓ Are there any other languages you’d really like to have added to the Tribal Habits portal? Pop them in the comments below!

New year, new hire? It’s common to run department overview sessions for each new starter.

But…

🔸 How consistent is the experience?
🔸 Are they just going through the motions?
🔸 What opportunity for feedback is given to improve the experience?
🔸 Could their time be better used?
🔸 How much information is actually retained by the new starter?
🔸 How often are these sessions held back-to-back?

As your business grows, a lot of new starter orientation can work better as online training, in order to:

🔸 Keep it consistent
🔸 Provide an opportunity for iterative improvements
🔸 Free up staff time
🔸 Be referred back to as needed
🔸 Be self-paced
🔸 Help remove silos - the information is available for other staff, rather than just new starters

Use those initial face to face sessions as a ‘welcome’ and ‘get to know you’ rather than a blast of information.

What makes a successful training program?

Our clients with the most successful training programs don’t actually have big dedicated learning teams.

They have:

🏆 A champion who is responsible for driving the learning initiatives forward.
🏆 Subject matter experts within their organisation to create a volume of training & keep it up-to-date.
🏆 Learning designers to find gaps in the training material. They curate and create more specialised content.

Having a content creation tool that anyone can use built into your LMS isn’t a threat to the jobs of learning designers. It just means they can move some of the heavy-lifting to others (especially for keeping training up to date and relevant).

This enables L&D to better utilise their skills on specialist, high quality training materials.

24/12/2024

Much like LinkedIn is now filled with AI-generated posts that feel a bit 'meh', we’ve seen a rise in AI-generated training content.

As tempting as it is to press a button and let AI do all the work, here’s the question: Does it actually create something useful?

If you’re expecting your staff to invest time in training, it should be worth doing. Relevant training is what makes learning engaging. It helps staff do their jobs better, tackles real challenges, and builds confidence by closing knowledge gaps.

AI is a fantastic tool - it can streamline processes, summarise well, help write questions, but it still can’t replace thoughtful design or a clear understanding of your organisation’s goals without a lot of intervention.

Something to think about over the break:
🔸 Is your training just a tick-box exercise?
🔸 Or does it empower your team with practical skills and knowledge?
🔸 Are you building training that matters, or just keeping people busy?

Use AI to help polish your existing content, or inject some fresh ideas. But we shouldn’t lose sight of the most important objective - which will always be to impart the knowledge individuals possess to others in a way that is relevant, personal, engaging, enlightening and retainable.

To do this… we still need humans.

AI makes the perfect co-pilot - but it’s not our captain.
