🌴 Travel Update: Changes to Maldivian Tourism Taxes 🌴
Hey, travel lovers! Part of my job as your go-to travel advisor is staying on top of travel news so you don’t have to. ✈️ Recently, the Maldivian Government announced updates to its Tourism Act, which may impact your future travel plans. Here's what you need to know:
📅 What’s Changing?
1️⃣ Tourism Goods & Services Tax (TGST)
- Increases from 16% to 17%, starting July 1, 2025.
- Resorts are still finalizing how this will affect existing bookings. I’ll keep you updated!

2️⃣ Green Tax
- Rises from $6 to $12 per person, per night, starting January 1, 2025.
- Infants under 2 years are exempt.
- For stays that cross into 2025:
- $6 per night for nights in 2024.
- $12 per night for nights in 2025.
💡 How This Impacts Your Bookings:
- Existing Bookings: Many resorts plan to collect the extra $6 per person, per night, at check-in. I’ll reach out to affected travelers with updates soon!
- New Bookings/Quotes: Some resorts haven’t finalized how they’ll handle the new taxes, but I recommend budgeting an extra $6 per night for trips after January 1, 2025, just to be safe.
