13/06/2024

I have a Question for you.

How do you see IELTS?

Do you see it as a professional exam?

Or

A test of how well you communicate in clear, correct English?

Before I tell you the right way to see the test, I need you to know that the way you PERCEIVE the test determines if you will have a band 8.5 or a 6.

Getting your desired IELTS band score you need CONSTANT PRACTICE!
However, it is not ENOUGH.

I know many who have constantly practiced and still didn’t get their desired band score.
What happened?.

They lacked the SKILLS needed to score high in the test.

Here are some of the DAILY ROUTINES I recommend to boost the skills being tested in IELTS.

For READING - this can be improved by reading complex articles on topics you know nothing about.

At the end try and summarize the articles in your own words based on your understanding of the topic.

You can get such articles on platforms like Quora,Medium, or publishing journals.

This simple exercise improves your reading speed and rate of assimilation.

For LISTENING do this ...

Pick any music you enjoy, listen to the lyrics and write out what you hear word for word.
A 10 track album will suffice.

You can listen to CNN News or watch English movies without subtitles as well.

This habit is indirectly training your auditory faculty to cope with the various accents you will hear during the listening tests.

Then, when it comes to WRITING…

Create a journal where you write a brief summary of how you spent your day.

It is important you avoid the use of personal pronouns such as "I" when doing this.

If you do these consistently for 30 days non-stop! Your writing will improve.

The speaking habit is the simplest of them all…

Always communicate in English and try to avoid “pidgin English” and vernacular.
Look!

The idea behind these exercises is to create the mind shift needed for IELTS.

If you can start up with these habits for the next 30 days before preparing for IELTS, You will realize how easy your preparatory journey will be.

Just get started!

11 SIMPLE METHODS of relocating to Canada

A thriving economy, quality education, robust healthcare system, job opportunities, etc. These are some of the reasons why people are so attracted to moving to Canada.

It’s not surprising that Canada attracts a significant number of international immigrants every year.

Canada is known for welcoming immigrants and they have become a good choice for people who are looking for a great place to start life all over.

Just so you know, the Canadian government anticipates welcoming over 1.2 million immigrants this year alone. Meaning now is the best time for you to apply

So are you looking forward to immigrating to Canada this year?

Here are11 different ways to immigrate to Canada:

1. Express Entry (EE)
First, let’s talk about the Express Entry Program, which is essentially Canada’s golden ticket for skilled workers.

The purpose of this electronic immigration program is to accommodate individuals who possess that particular skill demanded by the labor market.

One of the advantages of express entry is that it takes quicker processing times, usually six months.

The Express Entry system is a way for the Canadian government to manage applications for certain immigration programs, including the Federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skilled Trades Program, and the Canadian Experience Class.

If this sounds like something you will be interested in, then buckle up with the essential prerequisites, which are; work experience, language proficiency (maybe in English or French), and an adequate education level.

All what you have to do is to create an express entry profile and subsequently join the pool of other interested candidates.

So after you have created your express entry profile and you have submitted the necessary information, If you have a higher points on the Comprehensive Ranking System, it will increase your chances of geting an Invitation to Apply for Permanent residence.

It is like a context, whereby you are competing with other candidates, so the higher your point, the higher your chances

2. Provincial Nominee Programs
This is another method of relocating to Canada.
And this is how it works

Each Canada’s province offers a nominee program.

To qualify for this program, you need a nomination from a province.

The primary requirement can be skill- or job offer-specific. After which you can apply with a federal immigration application.

But remember, each province in Canada has its own immigration program that allows them to nominate individuals who meet the specific needs of the province’s labor market demand.

These programs are designed to help immigrants to settle in a specific region of Canada.

3. Family Sponsorship
Through this immigration channels, permanent residents or citizens of Canada can sponsor their parents, grandparents, spouses, dependent children, and even their conjugal partners.

So, if you’re lucky enough to have a family member in Canada willing to sponsor you, this pathway is for you.

However, it’s not that easy; because the sponsor must demonstrate financial capability to support the incoming family member(s). Meaning you have to ensure that your sponsor is well prepared for this commitment to avoid any bumps on the immigration road.

4. Study Permit
Here, you relocate to Canada by going there to study may be in a college or a University and After completing your studies, you would apply for a work permit and after working for a certain period of time, then you will be able to apply for permanent residence.

5. Work Permits
Traditionally back then, this is the most popular way of moving to Canada because Canada offers immigration through work permits.

What you basically need here is;... You must have a valid job offer from a Canadian employer, who would then secure a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA).

You can browse through Canada’s job bank, or leverage international job fairs and other legit job site - all these could get you that golden job letter. From there, it opens the door to permanent residency.

6. Investing in Canada
So This is for people that are very rich, very very rich and are ready to invest or establish a business in Canada

However, The amount of money to invest varies based on various entrepreneurial or investor programs, essentially either starting a business or investing in an existing one.

So It is important that you are well-informed about which investment program you are going for

For example, The Start-up Visa Program is designed for entrepreneurs who want to start a business in Canada. To be eligible for this, you must have a business idea that has been accepted by a designated organization and a letter of support from that organization.

You must also meet the program’s requirements, which include demonstrating that you have enough financial resources to support yourself and your business

7. Temporary Foreign Worker Program
The Temporary Foreign Worker Program provides temporary employment to foreign workers in order to address labor needs in Canada. Many people have been able to convert their temporary stay status to permanent residence status through this program.

Although, to follow the temporary foreign worker program, the employer must still secure an LMIA, indicating that no Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada was available to fill the open job vacancy.

8. Atlantic Immigration Pilot
This particular immigration program is for people who get job offers from an employer in Atlantic provinces of Newfoundland and Labrador, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island.

So if you can get a job offer from any of these provinces, then you can follow the atlantic immigration pilot program
Also if you can get an endorsement from a community development organization in this region too - you can also follow the atlantic immigration pilot program

Don’t worry if you are not familiar with the Atlantic region, you can research more about it, at least you now know there is an immigration pathway in that region

9. Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot
Much like the Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program, the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot focuses on specific rural and northern communities.

Also A full-time job offer from one of the participating communities is what you need to get the ball rolling.

The Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot program is a program designed to help immigrants settle in smaller communities in the provinces of British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario, and Saskatchewan.

To be eligible for the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot, you must have a job offer from a designated employer in a participating community and you must meet the specific requirements of the program.

You must also have the skills and education needed to successfully integrate into the labor market and community in the participating community. However, do ensure that rural living aligns with your lifestyle, as adjusting can be a bit challenging for city dwellers.

10. Humanitarian and Compassionate Consideration

If you are not eligible for any other immigration program, you may be able to apply for permanent residency on humanitarian and compassionate grounds.

This is a discretionary process, and each case is considered on its own merit. To be considered for humanitarian and compassionate consideration, you must demonstrate that you would face unusual, undeserved, or disproportionate hardship if you were required to leave Canada.

If you have been hearing about refugee, this is where it falls These are people who declare REFUGEE whereby they seek Canadian government help by stating and proofing that they can’t go back their original home country due to various disasters and hardships happening in their home country.

An example are the Ukrainians and russians who were able to migrate to Canada due to the war happening between the two countries then,

Such a situation was justifiable as they demonstrated that there is a war ongoing in their home country, so they seek Canadian government help through the Humanitarian and Compassionate Consideration immigration program, that they scampered for safety by entering Canada to declare themselves as refugees

And last but not the least, on our list on the methods of relocating to Canada is;

11. Home Child Care Provider and Home Support Worker Pilot

The Home Child Care Provider and Home Support Worker Pilot is the immigration pathway for you if you are resourceful and patient enough to offer caregiving services - That is if you want to work as a caregiver in Canada.

CONCLUSION:

STEP BY STEP TO RELOCATE TO CANADA THROUGH STUDY AND BECOME A PERMANENT RESIDENT

STEP1: Look for a school in Canada; Here you will research Canadian Universities and Programs: Explore universities and colleges in Canada that offer programs aligned with your interests and career goals. Make sure the school you want to chose is a DLI (Desinagted Learning Institute)
Once you get a school and you are are sure it is a DLI, Then

STEP 2: Apply for Admission: Once you've selected a program, apply for admission to the university or college of your choice. Make sure to meet all the application requirements and deadlines.
If you are granted admission then you move to step 3, if not, you continue to look for admission

STEP 3: Apply for study visa (you have the option to include your family; spouse & kids in case you are relocating with them) to obtain a Study Permit. After receiving acceptance from a Canadian institution, apply for a study permit through the Canada immigration website (IRCC). You'll need to provide proof of acceptance, proof of funds, and other required documents.
If your visa is approved in step 3, then you move to step 4, or else you continue to apply again

STEP 4: Arrive in Canada: Once your study visa is approved, make arrangements to travel to Canada before the start of your program. At the point of entry (usually the airport), you will be issued your study permit.

Now you are in Canada

STEP 5: Begin to Study in Canada; Begin your studies at the Canadian institution. Stay compliant with the terms of your study permit.

STEP 6: Gain Work Experience (Optional): During your studies, you may be eligible to work part-time on or off-campus. This can provide valuable work experience and help support your finances.

STEP 7: After completing your program, apply for Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) which will allow you to work in Canada temporarily. The length of the PGWP depends on the duration of your program.

STEP 8: Gather Canadian Work Experience: Use your PGWP to gain Canadian work experience. This can enhance your chances of qualifying for permanent residency.

STEP 9: Once you have gathered 1-2 years work experience, explore Permanent Residency Options: Research the various pathways to permanent residency in Canada, such as the Express Entry system, Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs), or other immigration streams.

STEP 10: Once you meet the eligibility criteria for permanent residency options you explored in step 9, submit your application through the appropriate immigration program. Make sure to provide all required documents and meet application deadlines.

STEP 11: After submitting your application in step 10, wait for a decision from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). This process may take several months.

STEP 12: Settle in Canada: If your application is approved, you'll receive your permanent resident status. Congratulations! Now you can settle in Canada and enjoy the benefits of permanent residency.

21/04/2024

So many people have messaged me, asking me about how this new immigration policy can affect their application and their dream of relocating to Canada

Reason I came up with this post so that I can break down and review the new immigration policy about Canada relocation through study.

I think this new immigration policy is necessary because there were a series of issues surrounding international students in Canada

Issues like shortage of accommodation for international students, inadequate finance by some students whereby students struggling to sustain life in Canada after relocation, …..In fact, there were cases where students were found sleeping on the street in Canada - Story for another day

At a point, this was why the proof of fund was increased from $10k CAD to $20k CAD, so that people can be well financially prepared when coming to Canada through study.

Also, there were pressure on the health care system as the available health care facilities could not sustain the volume of students trooping into Canada on a daily basis.

Moreover, some schools were found taking advantage of international students just to generate revenue without proper application scrutiny, and so on

So all these factors prompted the new policy.

Without further ado, let's dive into the 6 major changes that were effected in the recently updated immigration policy. Announced by the Honourable minister of immigration in Canada;

1. 2 years Cap intake on international student application - Meaning Canada is reducing the number of study permit to be issued in 2024. They are reducing it to 360,000, which is 35% decrease compared to 2023

The Implication of this is that there will be a lot of study visa denial in 2024, probably not because the applicant does not meet the requirement but just because of the new policy effect, as visa officers would try to keep to the numbers of students to be granted visa.

It becomes a game of chance right?

My recommendation to beat this is to make sure you submit your application as soon as possible, submit it on time, and make sure your application meets all the necessary eligibility requirements

2. The Cap has been divided between the provinces - Meaning this cap is spread across provinces based on their previous student intake population

There will be a significant decrease in study permit issued in provinces that experienced unsustainable growth issues due to the large number of international students intake in the past

It is important to state that study permit renewals will not be impacted by these caps

3. The caps do not affect masters, PhD, elementary and high schools

This means those pursuing Masters and Doctorates as well as Elementary and
secondary educations are not included in this cap.

Since IRCC will allocate a portion of the cap to each province. The provinces will then distribute their allocation among their designated learning institutions

4. All study permit applications will be accompanied by an attestation letter from the provinces

Meaning of this is that every study permit application submitted to
IRCC will now require an attestation letter from the province where the school resides

Provinces and territory are expected to establish a process for issuing these attestation letters to students

5. PGWP will not be available for public-private institutions

This is the most painful one to me, like seriously

Starting September 1 2024 postgraduation work permits will no longer be available to public private institution models

6. SOWP will only be given to spouses of Masters and PhD students

Hmmm!.....this is serious

Spousal open work permits will only be available to spouses of
international students in Master's and doctoral programs as well as those in
professional programs like medicine and law

I am not sure if this medicine is for all health programs because Canada
does not really offer medicine programs but I'm hoping this will be
clarified later

But the spouses of international students in other levels of study like undergraduate and college programs will no longer be eligible

These are the key changes that took effect in the Canada study route relocation process recently. We hope this policy is reviewed soon as promised by the Canadian minister of immigration

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A DIPLOMA PROGRAM, A POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA PROGRAM, AN ADVANCED DIPLOMA PROGRAM, A GRADUATE CERTIFICAT...
20/12/2023

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A DIPLOMA PROGRAM, A POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA PROGRAM, AN ADVANCED DIPLOMA PROGRAM, A GRADUATE CERTIFICATE, AND A MASTERS

So today we're going to be looking at these different types of post-secondary degrees that you can apply for - whether in Canada or any other country or maybe you're just starting out and you're looking for a way to advance your education

You must understand the difference between these degrees so that you can make the best decision for your future or career

>>So let's start with the college diploma

College Diploma is the type of program typically offered in the college and it takes around 2 years of full-time study to complete

A College diploma is designed for you if you really want to get hands-on education in a very specific trade or area like marketing, business, welding or fabrication, networking, or any other business-related area

So this program usually focuses on practical skills - like hands-on training and they will actually prepare you for entry-level positions in a chosen field

A College Diploma is good for you if you want to start working in a particular chosen field as soon as possible

The beauty part of a college diploma is that whether you already have a degree or not, you can still apply.

If you feel you really want to get hands-on training in a certain area, you can apply…… so it is not only for those who just completed high school

Anyone can apply. Whether you just completed high school or first degree…..you can apply for a college diploma

>>So Let’s talk about the Advanced Diploma

Advanced diploma is also mostly offered in a college and is also like a higher level of education compared to a college diploma

AD usually takes about 3 years of full-time study to complete and it usually focuses on areas like advanced Engineering or business management

So basically, if you don’t want to go for a bachelor's degree which is like a 4 years program, whereby you want to get more hands-on experience, then, an advanced diploma can be a kind of best option for you

Because it is actually a 3-year program and they are more advanced than a college diploma and they offer more in-depth training in a particular field, whereby it will prepare you for a more advanced position in any chosen field.

So it is a great alternative to a Bachelor's degree

>>Okay now moving on to the next one which is a graduate certificate program

So this is actually for you if you have already completed a bachelor's degree and you are now looking forward to specialize in a particular area

The great thing about the graduate certificate program is that it is actually a shorter program and it typically takes around 1 year of full-time study to complete,….Although some can be 8 months

They are basically designed for you if you want to enhance your knowledge and skill in a particular area whereby you don't really want to commit yourself to a 2 years master's degree or any full-time master's program

Also, this graduate certificate program is a very good option for you if you want to specialize in a particular field that doesn't really require a specific degree to enroll….which means for this graduate certificate program, you don't necessarily need to have that specific bachelor's degree in that same field

You will agree with me that, if you want to specialize, anybody can do that

But it's good to go for a graduate certificate program in a field where you have a background…..especially for an international student just for the purpose of visa application because it is always best to apply for something close to what you've done before

>>Let's move to the next one which is the post-graduate diploma also known as PGD

This is also offered to those who have completed their bachelor's degree and it usually takes one to about 2 years of full-time study to complete depending on the program

Now this program are designed to really give you that advanced knowledge in a particular field, for example, environmental science, engineering, finance, business, and so on.

Post Graduate Diploma programs are very similar to graduate certificate... in the sense that they offer advanced training in a very specific field but they are usually more in-depth and require a lot of coursework compared to The Graduate program and they would allow you to specialize in a particular area

With post-graduate diploma programs, you will be able to work in an advanced position upon graduation

>>>Now let's talk about master's degree,

This is actually the highest level in terms of Post-Secondary Education.

It typically takes about 2 years of full-time study to complete and after that, you can go for a PhD

Most Masters are usually research-based, whereby students are required to complete a thesis of a project

However, there are Masters that are course-based which don't require you to write any thesis……..So don't be scared of thesis

Masters are usually offered in different wide fields like engineering, biochemistry, nursing, pharmacy, environmental science, and so on

So this program is basically designed for you if you want to pursue advanced research and then take that leadership position in your chosen field

Master’s degree holders are highly respected and a lot of careers do give preference to those that have master's degree

If you want to go into academia, of course, you have to go and do a master's degree and then do a PhD ….Meaning you want to go into research ……in this case, you won’t be going for a post-graduate diploma or graduate certificate program. Going for a master's will be a sure way for you

>>Conclusion:
So whether you're just starting out, or you're looking for a program to advance your education or you are looking for a suitable program to relocate to Canada through study, …I think by now, you should be able to decide which one is the best for you
