The ACTA has attended the second installment of Suroy-Suroy Sugbo, the Cebu Provincial Government’s flagship tourism program by Gov. Gwen Garcia (DOT Secretary Christina Garcia-Frasco’s mom) to continuously revive the tourism industry in Cebu from the negative impacts of the pandemic and the devastation brought by Super typhoon Odette in December 2021.
This time it was held on April 15-16 when tourists from different regions of the Philippines enjoyed the sights, sounds, and tastes of the Camotes Islands of Cebu.
Suroy Suroy means pasyal pasyal while Sugbo is the ancient name for Cebu City. Sugbu or Sugbo was derived from the Old Cebuano term for "scorched earth" or "great fire."
Tour rates varies from ₱11,100 to ₱15,120, depending on the chosen accommodation and are inclusive of premium air-conditioned tour bus, roundtrip ferryboat to camotes, full-board meals at the camotes island, Suroy Suroy travel kit (umbrella, t-shirts, bag, brochure and visor), and DOT-accredited tour guide. Rate excludes roundtrip airfare to/from Cebu.
Some immediate effects of Suroy-Suroy would be a heightened awareness of local heritage, exposure to tourists (for Camotes & the midwest); promotion and sales of local products.
With its success, the DOT National Office is encouraging the regional offices to promote similar program. It is said that very soon Region V will be having the same event with a twist.
Thank you DOTV team, specially to Ma’am Salee Mora and Dir. Herbie Aguas for the persistence for ACTA to participate. To my co-participants Mam Dorothy Colle, Sir Billy Balin, Sir Siegfred Nebres, Mam Cristina Racelis, and Sir Chief Rommel Natanuan, it was a pleasure to be in Suroy Suroy with you sa Enchanting Camotes.
I hope for ACTA to make a profound contribution to the Bicol tourism industry, to DOTV, and LGUs and its programs to come.
God bless and more power!
