Mayon is a gift to the Bicolanos.

Inarguably, the Mayon Volcano has earned the Bicol region a lot of recognition with its perfect cone shape. It provides a breathtaking backdrop wherever you are in the provinces of Bicol.

Legend has it that its name came from 'magayon', a Bicolano word that means beautiful which fittingly describes the majestic scenery from every angle.

There have been more than 30 eruptions recorded since 1616 and 52 times in the past 500 years. This means Mayon is not a dormant volcano. It is an active earth’s crust exhaust, which Bicolanos expect to erupt every 5, 8, or 10 years.

Mayon offers a lot than meets the eye. Volcanic materials break down and weather to form some of the most fertile soils in Albay, cultivation of which has helped farmers to have abundant produced. The internal active heat of Mayon produce geothermal energy, which makes Albay one of the top energy-producing provinces in the Philippines. Lava rocks are in fact beneficial as study proves that it alleviate anxiety, promote emotional tranquillity and bring calmness and feelings of relaxation to the Oragons.

In fact, this is the perfect time to visit Bicol when Mayon is having her Pāhoehoe flows. Just stay though in cities that are NOT WITHIN the 6-8km (3.7-5 mile) radius of Mayon volcano's crater such as the Legazpi City, Daraga, Tabaco and so on. To help you gauge, the famous Lignon Hill of Legazpi is at 12km (7.5 mile) radius.

There have been many intensive or exaggerated negative publicity in the mass media because of the eruption. Thus the ACTA is letting the world know that these are false rumors.

Come, see, and experience the EXCITING BICOL!

The ACTA has attended the second installment of Suroy-Suroy Sugbo, the Cebu Provincial Government’s flagship tourism program by Gov. Gwen Garcia (DOT Secretary Christina Garcia-Frasco’s mom) to continuously revive the tourism industry in Cebu from the negative impacts of the pandemic and the devastation brought by Super typhoon Odette in December 2021.

This time it was held on April 15-16 when tourists from different regions of the Philippines enjoyed the sights, sounds, and tastes of the Camotes Islands of Cebu.

Suroy Suroy means pasyal pasyal while Sugbo is the ancient name for Cebu City. Sugbu or Sugbo was derived from the Old Cebuano term for "scorched earth" or "great fire."

Tour rates varies from ₱11,100 to ₱15,120, depending on the chosen accommodation and are inclusive of premium air-conditioned tour bus, roundtrip ferryboat to camotes, full-board meals at the camotes island, Suroy Suroy travel kit (umbrella, t-shirts, bag, brochure and visor), and DOT-accredited tour guide. Rate excludes roundtrip airfare to/from Cebu.

Some immediate effects of Suroy-Suroy would be a heightened awareness of local heritage, exposure to tourists (for Camotes & the midwest); promotion and sales of local products.

With its success, the DOT National Office is encouraging the regional offices to promote similar program. It is said that very soon Region V will be having the same event with a twist.

Thank you DOTV team, specially to Ma’am Salee Mora and Dir. Herbie Aguas for the persistence for ACTA to participate. To my co-participants Mam Dorothy Colle, Sir Billy Balin, Sir Siegfred Nebres, Mam Cristina Racelis, and Sir Chief Rommel Natanuan, it was a pleasure to be in Suroy Suroy with you sa Enchanting Camotes.

I hope for ACTA to make a profound contribution to the Bicol tourism industry, to DOTV, and LGUs and its programs to come.

God bless and more power!

Congratulations DOT-V for a successful Bicol Regional Tourism Summit headed by Dir. Herbie Aguas and his team, supported by the former DOTV Directors Benjie Santiago and Maria “Nini” Ravanilla (currently Sorsogon Board Member), 2nd District Congressman Joey Sarte Salceda, and the municipal mayor of Camalig, Garchitorena, San Pascual, and Bulusan.

ACTA Bicol has gained the support of DOTV and different LGUs to submit a Circular to PTAA, PHILTOA, NAITAS, and other DOT regions to inform them that a local BICOL DOT ACCREDITED TOUR OPERATORS, TRAVEL AGENCIES, AND TOUR GUIDES who were trained by the DOT and LGUs, be contacted for tour partnership to warrant safety and quality tour service, as good practices in the industry, and to a more sustainable tourism in the region.

Former MIMAROPA DOT Director Mr. Danilo Intong reiterated that operators and agencies coming from other regions should only act as tour coordinators and not as Bicol Tour Operators. Mr. Intong legacy in MIMAROPA that until now local operators there are enjoying the benefit of being protected by the local government.

ACTA-Bicol 2022-2023 Officers are inducted as well by the DOTV during the summit.
