Our last couple of days cruising were 'fun days at sea' aka the trip home. If we weren't sure we were heading home, the gradual downward trajectory of the temperature was certainly a good hint. Day 6 and once again Splendor is anchored within cooee of another magnificent island. This time it's Mystery Island (Inyeug) in Vanuatu. While Mystery island is very welcoming to visitors, surprisingly it is actually uninhabited. According to the natives the island is cursed so no-one will live there. The island is 1km long and get this, 200 metres wide! You can stand on the beach on one side and look through the trees and see the beach on the other side!...

Day 5 saw Splendor anchored off the coast of Lifou Island, New Caledonia our next shore excursion. Very interesting method of transport used to get us on to the island-the lifeboats. Nothing like those used in Titanic of course, so get that picture out of your head. No, these are mini ferries designed to carry 150 people. Splendor has 20 or more of them attached to the side of the ship at Deck 4....

Our first ever cruise almost wasn't! We woke the morning of departure to the news high winds buffeting Sydney airport had reduced it to one runway and hundreds of flights cancelled. We were flying at 10.25am! Mild panic set in as I madly searched the flight status app. With everything crossed and dripping apprehension, we headed to the airport. Thankfully our flight was delayed by only 30 minutes, miracle really considering hundreds of travellers were left stranded....

Why am I just writing about this now? Well today is probably the first day it's actually started to feel a bit real. Noel has gone back to work and retirement stretches ahead of me....

It's over! We're home but I do need to backtrack and cover the last couple of weeks in Brighton with the girls. Well, it was so great to see them again and enjoy their company and just well...rest. France was fabulous but very hot and so, so busy. The Young house in Portslade was the perfect place to decompress. Don't get me wrong we still packed a lot in but it was definitely less hectic....

Train to Vernon-Giverny was packed but thankfully only a two hour trip. Hopped on the shuttle to Giverny village with lots of day trippers from Paris to see Claude Monet’s house and garden. After a bit of a trek we found our lovely B&B for the night (on rue Claude Monet, same street as Monet’s house), dropped our gear and headed out to explore this amazing area....

Arrived in Rouen on the train from Dieppe around lunchtime, too early to check in so tucked into some, wait for it…. Brie and crackers and freshly squeezed OJ just outside the Gare. Adequately fed and watered, we started to follow Ms google maps to our digs. On the way we were blown away by the architecture as the buildings became increasingly more ancient and amazing the closer we got to the Airbnb....

Another warm one here. Noel and Gerard spent the morning painting the girl's back deck, one of many jobs the dads have been assigned. Dec and I chilled at the hotel and taxied over for lunch. Loaded 2 cars with wedding paraphernalia and grog and headed to Pangdean the wedding venue (see photos). Dec was on uncle duty with Dixie and they had a lovely time chilling and bonding....

We all flew out Thursday evening-pretty uneventful start to the trip except for Noel ignoring the Tom Tom and taking us the wrong way and that was before we even got to the airport....
