CruiseCritic Roll Calls vs Facebook Events and the Churchill’s Lounge Differential

CruiseCritic Roll Calls are created by users with whatever naming convention they want, and they aren't even in chronological date order. At least you can filter to the month of your Cruise. Once you find your cruise, provided it even exists, it's nothing more than a discussion thread with no organization. The worst part is the passenger names are sign-on handles – not real names. I was excited to find my cruise existed and I'll be sailing with MTnest93, MicFab70 and Kickbackcruisers. The listed cruises show the number of replies – not number of people Going. My July 1st cruise has 18 Replies and if you go into the discussion thread that is the count of Comments from just 8 people. The thread was short enough I could count unique user names to determine how many are in the Roll Call. Whoever created my particular July 1st Caribbean Cruise used a nice title that closely matches the Princess title “7 Day Eastern Caribbean with Bahamas,” while other titles are hilarious. After that there is no other information or links within the CruiseCritic roll call. If I’m missing some aspect of their system, please let me know.

All Princess Cruise Facebook Groups have Events or at least I’ve yet to see one that didn’t. Any Event for an entire cruise is technically a Roll Call Event. Again, they are user created with varying formats, pictures, and descriptions. Facebook doesn’t provide a date filter, so I scrolled for 15 minutes in a Roll Call Group only to find my cruise didn’t exist. In Facebook Groups you can see the real name of who is going. Facebook Events have a much better Discussion Thread. Most people don’t know, you can have an Event within an Event. So, in Facebook a Cruise Roll Call Event can have a Meet & Greet event embedded for the particular day and time. Facebook Events when done right are much better than CruiseCritic.

The Churchill’s Lounge Roll Call differential is all ships, all sailings have a pre-built Roll Call with a consistent name and date format, and an at-a-glance itinerary as the Event image. The Roll Calls are organized in chronological order in Ship Specific Guides for ease of access. Select your ship from the Guide and only its voyages appear in date order. Direct links to the Princess Cruise Booking webpage and the Port website page are included in each Event. Each Event has its own classic Facebook Event Discussion Thread with the standard Post/Comment hierarchy we’re used to. Multiple people can discuss Excursions, Entertainment Venues, or plan Meet & Greet parties. Create a Meet & Greet Event inside the Roll Call Event because there might be 40 people Going on the cruise but only 15 want to attend a Meet & Greet party. That’s important planning information to know and why nested Events are important.
