Have you stayed at a hostel?
Our trip to #madridespaña we chose to stay in a hostel.
It was a way to keep cost down while experiencing the city.

This summer we had a small group head out to London Paris & The Alps. It was not a program that The Answer Is Travel designed piece by piece, but it was a commitment we made years back that we knew we had to fulfill. Although, it is not our ideal program, it was a trip well worth it.
We’ve shared a bit about of our Sustainable Farming program we just wrapped up, sprinkling in a a post about growth of our kiddos who experience our programs.
This time, I want to share a story of a parent who is experience personal growth after traveling with us this summer.
After 8 years of homeschooling, her son decided to try out high school. It was not an easy decision for his mom. She was not expecting her son to ever want to try out high school.
The son was excited. The mom nervous. But she chose to support his decision. After about a week of school starting, she asked her son what made him feel courageous enough to try high school. After all, their schooling up to that point was unconventional.
His answer: I figured if I could find the #monalisa this summer with minutes to spare, I would be fine.
He was telling his mom he was able to navigate in life. He was prepared with the tools needed to figure things out as he went.
Since then, mom has admired her son from a distance watching as he navigates learning how to handle high school- friends, social activities, time management skills, study skills.
Traveling with The Answer Is Travel is not only life-changing for the children, it is life changing for the adults as well.

Part 2 continued:
One of the kids with us - is bilingual. He speaks Italian and English fluently and is learning German.
At first, none of the other kids knew he was bilingual or that he was born in Italy.
After some time together, the kids realized that he spoke Italian and English.
Eventually, the other kids were asking him about other languages he was able to speak and at a time the topic of healthcare for Italian residents was brought up.
One afternoon, we spent some time with the local kids at the park.
The younger ones played on the equipment, the oldest headed for the basketball court.
Despite the fact that our kids could not speak Italian, the local kids were welcoming and our kids were happy to join in the fun.
The best part?
The young boy who spoke Italian that was our group- translated when needed.
“Hey mom, I just translated a basketball game!”
Our goal for our travelers isn’t to get them to the IG famous landmarks or hit all the top tourist spots.
We strive for local, cultural, immersive opportunities. Some we create intentionally, other times it happens naturally.
Kids were interacting with locals and the moms were proud to watch as their kids learned to communicate with the local kids.

Mercato Trionfale, the city’s permanent farmers market, was the first stop of the day.
The market was thoughtfully separated into two distinct sections, each offering its own unique charm.
In one section, local vendors resold an array of local produce and products.
In the other section, we encountered local farms selling their fresh produce directly to the public. Each farm had its own distinct identity, marked by signs that proudly indicated its origin.
The intoxicating aroma of traditional Italian pizza greeted us as we ventured further into the market. Here, pizza was a delight to be savored by weight. We eagerly indulged in fresh buffalo mozzarella, briny olives, rustic bread, and olive-stuffed bread, each bite an expression of Italian craftsmanship.
we encountered an old couple whose love for their craft shone through every gesture. Though they spoke little English, it was evident that their passion lay in ensuring that we adored the flavors they offered.
We visited a local fruit stand, where we were gifted with an assortment of delicious goodies, the tomatoes standing out as the best around!
Next, lunch at a local favorite, Trapizzino. Here, the owner’s success story was as appealing as the food. We savored eggplant, Ethiopian stew and meatballs- all stuffed right in the bread!
We made our way to the train station for the next leg of our journey, which would take us south to Calabria, specifically to Catanzaro. Snacks were shared, children laughed, and parents chatted, creating a sense of camaraderie among our group.

Everyone meet Riley ( the dog) and Finley ( the 6 year old)
Riley thinks he is a human.
Finley loves to cuddle the dog.
Riley likes to lick wet hair.
Finley loves to giggle when Riley licks her hair.
How does this relate to international travel experiences?
Nothing really, other than the t-shirt she is wearing.
Louisiana Traveling Homeschoolers was the original name of the group I started back in 2018.
We made t-shirts and everything 🤦🏻♀️

I answered this question over in our Facebook group ( same name as IG) but with being new here I thought I’d share it here too.
What is the average age of travelers on a trip?
This last trip we had 4,6,7,9,12,13,16,17.
Seems like it was a big gap between them, right?
Let me share a little secret. It didn’t affect any of the kids.
The 4 year old played with the 17 year old.
The 13 year old played with the 7 year old.
And not once did anyone complain because there wasn’t anyone their age on the trip.
As a matter of fact, the parents have talked about meeting up for a reunion trip in the States.
Now that’s out of the way, what’s stopping you from joining us on our next #internationaltraveladventures

Books will only take you so far.
To be immersed in the way of life, culture and people, it needs to be outside the walls of a classroom.
By touching, smelling, listening, hearing, feeling and using all of our senses, we are then able to truly take it all in.
We are in a transition phase of fulfilling our last domestic trips but will soon be focusing solely on #internationaltravelexperiences for #homeschoolers to join their fellow world travelers in new and exciting destinations together!
Who plans to stick around to see what we have in the works for 2024 & 2025?
