The president and various organizations are currently deliberating on Mexico's minimum wage. It is expected to be official at some point in December.

Still, they have no later than January 1st to agree before it is made official in the Diario Offical de La Federacion and by CONASAMI.

The proposals for increases range from 12.5 to 25%. As soon as the minimum wages for 2025 have been made official, we will let you know. And this will also affect the financial solvency requirements for 2025. 👍👇

Common Mistakes/Nuances During Canje
Here are some of the most common mistakes I have seen when people are going through their immigration process on their own.

If you fly or drive to Mexico, you will be given an FMM paper or a digital FMM associated with your passport. The paper FMM MUST HAVE the words canje either written on it or checkmarked.. If you fly in, you will be given a digital FMM.

If you enter Mexico as a tourist, your residency is canceled, and you must start the process of residency again. Never allow an immigration agent to register your entry as a tourist so you can avoid this mistake. When coming through immigration, make sure they see your passport stamp and that you tell them you are a resident. If you fly to one of the international airports with the automated kiosks- DO NOT USE THEM as a resident. These can cancel your residency visa.

When you enter Mexico, you have 30 days to start the process at INM in Mexico. Once your paperwork is in process, you will be given a NUT, which gives you the right to be in Mexico while you wait for your Canje to be finalized, even if it is after 30 days from when you entered Mexico. Once you get a NUT, you cannot leave Mexico unless you get permission from INM. Otherwise, you cancel your whole process. Permission to leave Mexico while your process is active is not guaranteed.

If you are driving to Mexico to do your Canje, it is YOUR responsibility to stop at INM at the border and ask for your FMM. Without this, you cannot get your residency card. And it would be a bummer to drive back to the border.

What you get in the Mexican consulate is what you get in Mexico. If you got temporary, you can’t request permanent residency once you go to INM (immigration) in Mexico.

Our customers Linda and Paul Suhler asked me to share their review on their behalf because they don't use Facebook.

"My wife and I had been considering retiring in Mexico, so we subscribed to the Mexico Relocation Guide, watched the YouTube videos, and read the information in the Guide. The background information on how to obtain permanent residency and on various cities was helpful. But the most valuable thing was getting us in contact with a facilitator to help with the immigration process at the Instituto Nacional de Migración (INM), in Mexico City.

(We were able to get our visas at our local Mexican Consulate. While we did not have a facilitator for this part, we got lucky in getting to see a consular official. There is a process for scheduling an appointment via the web, but we were unable to create an account to schedule. The luck was that there was a Saturday session at which we cold submit our passports and supporting paperwork. A facilitator for this part of the process might have removed some uncertainty.)

Prior to our departure from the US, our facilitator explained the process and what information he would need to prepare all of our forms. As our reading and spoken Spanish is very limited, it was important that we had all the forms and that they were filled in correctly and completely. We paid 50% of his fee in advance. And he reminded us more than once that when we arrived at the airport we had to see an agent, and not to use one of the electronic kiosks, which are only for tourist visas and which would have invalidated the permanent residency visa.

On the day of our appointment at INM, we was delayed by traffic, but he had one of his contacts meet us as scheduled with the filled-in forms and es**rt us to INM. By that time our facilitator had arrived and he briefed us when we joined the line at INM; he wasn’t allowed to accompany us inside the office. The process was tedious, but we made it through without problems. We met him outside and paid the balance of his fee. And then treated him to lunch.

Hiring our facilitator was well worth the money. Our paperwork was complete and correct, and his instructions were correct. And his professionalism was proven by his having a fallback plan in place when he was delayed.

So for just this first step in moving to Mexico, the Mexico Relocation Guide (and the facilitator’s fee) were definitely worthwhile. It removed the uncertainty and worry from the process. And we’ll continue to use the Guide as we move ahead.

Muchas gracias, Mariana!
Paul & Linda"

Every year, I take a moment to reflect on what I am most thankful for.
For starters...I am extremely grateful I get to call this my job. I love helping you. I love getting your emails telling me you got your residency, you rented your first place in Mexico, you are going on a relocation tour, or you have achieved any milestone in your move to Mexico.

I love helping you find a solution to a question or doubt you have. I also even enjoy reading the simpler messages when you say you appreciate a video or livestream. 😊
I love that you find golden nuggets in the info we share. And that you find it to be valuable. I am extremely thankful for YOU!

I am also thankful for my family, my health, and the internet (because it has connected me to soo many amazing people like you).

Thank you for allowing us to help you THE RIGHT WAY.
Dustin, Mariana (and Loolu)

Now tell me something... what are you thankful for?

⚠️CAUTION PLEASE ⚠️An employee at one of the Mexican Consulates did something fishy (might be unethical, to say the least), and I want to warn others so you do your due diligence.
One of our customers went to the consulate for their appointment and the employee at the Raleigh Consulate said they needed to certify their bank statements. But that going to a UPS store was not good enough..yada yada.... She also gave them a post-it note with a phone number that could help them get their documents in the format the consulate prefers. How convenient

The consulate employee asked our customer to contact this external number to have this 3rd party them notarize our client's bank accounts. This # is not listed anywhere on their website or printed on their piece of paper from the consulate. So yeah, it's not "official."

THIS IS UNETHICAL AND A TOTAL CONFLICT OF INTEREST.

A consulate employee should never ever ask you to call a 3rd party that is not listed on their site or give you the name and number of any outsider to verify your bank statements or to help you process legal documents for you.

You as the applicant, can get your documents notarized on your own and choose the notary they would like to work with. However, having a consulate employee tell you to call an external business or person is a total conflict of interest. This employee is most likely helping out a friend by funneling business to them.

THAT IS UNETHICAL. (By the way, was the so-called "business" asking our customer to come to their private address? That is wild! Smells like a backdoor deal.)

I asked our customer to write to the general consul directly with this information and to give them this information.
But I want to know for all of you... has something like this ever happened to you? If so, let me know in the comments.

This is also a good warning to everyone out there... If something sounds fishy... do your due diligence, not just for this immigration matter but for anything in life. For example: If someone messages you after receiving your preapproval stamp solicting offering you their immigration services in Mexico, and YOU DID NOT reach out to them... this is also very fishy!

Most government employees are 100% ETHICAL. Most of them are 100% professional. But this shows there can be a bad apple everywhere, and you must do your due diligence.

Having a community is important no matter where you live. But we think it’s especially important in a foreign country. Otherwise, loneliness can be a major problem.

So how do you make friends when moving to Mexico? (Pictured below is Dustin and I with our dear friend Jeff- who also helps our customers with a variety of things!)

23/11/2024

One of the most frequently asked questions we have been getting this month is: "Will the RNE or Regularization Program continue in 2025? If so... will they accept entries from 2023 to qualify?"

The truth is... no one knows yet. We hope that immigration will continue to allow foreigners in Mexico to apply for the RNE program in 2025, but they won't share this information ahead of time.

If they do continue the program in 2025, we also do not know if they will allow entries from 2023 as the new qualifier.

We hope they do—for your sake and the sake of so many people who could qualify if they made new adjustments to the requirements. But we won't know what the requirements will be for the RNE program until 2025, unfortunately.

And anyone who tells you they are certain the program will continue is just speculating. No one truly knows.

We hope they do! And I hope to be able to deliver the good news to you in 2025, but until then, we will have to wait and see.

In the meantime, you CAN STILL apply for the RNE program before the end of the year. Most INM offices across Mexico will start closing their doors for the year around the middle of December. But if you hurry, you can still try to apply now if you are able to secure a short-term FMM or if you are already in Mexico with an expired FMM.

If you are reading this and scratching your head, wondering what the heck the regularization program is, don't worry. I have created a quick guide for you. https://mexicorelocationguide.com/regularization-program-residency-in-mexico/
