Every year, @austinparksfdn puts on “It’s My Park Day” once in the fall and once in the spring. During this day, they lead a variety of volunteer projects is parks across Austin that range from trash pick up to mulching projects to trail work.
This year they are not hosting live events for IMPD due to Covid. However, they are doing a virtual volunteer week where you can still participate virtually! Check out their Instagram and their website for details with how you can get involved!

Today is Election Day. We hope all of y’all were able to get out and vote today, or during early voting.
Instead of having any trail tips today, we just simply want to remind you to take care of yourself. The next few days might be stressful and anxiety-ridden for many.
Do the self-care that you need to do. Give yourself those positive affirmations. Take extra moments to practice breathing exercises. Unplug and unwind from the news and social media. Check in on your friends and family.
So here’s a video of a waterfall to remind you of some of the good things in this world. 🌏
Here's a treat for Halloween! 🎃
Trash is spooky. 👻💀☠️
Try to reduce your halloween waste this year by:
-Giving away candy that is wrapped in foil or packaged in cardboard, so it can be recycled. (Or Altereco uses biodegradable wrappers!)
-Baking cookies or cupcakes to give away instead.
-Make your halloween costume from repurposed materials.
-Use natural decorations, aka PUMPKINS, instead of buying plastic items.
Thanks to my coworkers Andrew, @meaguhtron @rainbowsix_ceej and @chappedlipsandchemistry for making this video possible!
Heyyyo! We’re now on Spotify! Check out our new podcast series!
We’ll being posting a series of virtual guided hikes and interviews with women and non-binary persons that are doing things in the outdoor world.
The first episode is just an overview of what the podcast will be about, and it will have some guidelines to follow for the virtual hikes. Make sure you give this episode a listen before going on any of our virtual guided hikes!
The first guided hike is at the Flats and Gus Fruh. It’s going to be the shortest hike of the series, and it is a beta version while we work out any kinks with the platforms - this being said - please give us feedback about how your hike goes! The greenbelt just recently opened again, and reservations are required on weekends, so plan accordingly.
Feel free to post pictures from any hikes you do with the #traileytrails hashtag or tag us @trailey_austin. We’re excited for this next chapter of our business!

How do you relax in nature? 🌱
I love laying on the ground and staring up at the trees, watching them blow in the wind and listening to the birds chirp. It’s the perfect way to take a physical and a (mental) break. I spend a lot of my outdoor time going full speed - running, biking, or working - but I also spend more time laying on the ground than I usually admit.
You don’t always have to be physically active to enjoy nature or to get an escape from your day. Just sitting outside and bring present in the moment is good for you.
Calming nature sounds and even outdoor silence can lower blood pressure and levels of the stress hormone cortisol, which in turn calms the body's fight or flight response. The visual aspects of nature can also have a soothing effect on the mind.
So if work, life, or quarantine worries are getting to you, just take a break. Go for a walk. Sit outside. Disconnect from your phone.
We promise it’s good for you. 💚

Hey, isn't it nice that I was able to DRIVE to Cedar Breaks Park in Georgetown before hiking to this waterfall? And if I didn't want to drive this far, I could've just ridden my bike a mile to Barton Creek Greenbelt? I am able to do those things and have easy access to the green-spaces because I am privileged. But what about everyone out there who doesn't have access to a car? And people who live far away from greenspaces?
.
I want to take a minute to introduce you to two bills that are currently in the House of Representatives. One is the Outdoors for All Act (S.1458/H.R.4512) that focuses on creating open spaces in local communities that need them most, who have historically not had access. The other is the Transit to Trails Act (S. 3333/H.R. 4273), which focuses on connecting transit hubs to trail heads to increase access to public lands for those without reliable transportation and reduce congestion at trail heads. You can find more about these bills on our resources page.
.
I encourage you to reach out to your representatives and ask them to support these bills. Also, look at upcoming election ballots and plan who you are going to vote for. Do your research. See what candidates are out there and what they support. Just because the Instagram posts are slowing down, doesn’t mean you should stop doing the work.
.
Oh, and FYI, we just added more resources to our resource page. :)
