Returning to Wrexham In 1964 my family and I immigrated to the land down under. Now in 2023 I'm heading back!

All the fun had to come to an end eventually!
We had an amazing adventure!
A special thanks to all the people who made it all so much better than I could have ever expected.
A special thanks to Deb, our travel agent who was able to change everything around at the last moment before leaving!
Thanks to my son Gavin who accompanied me at the start of the trip who deciphered the hire car sat nav, berated me on every traffic infringement I made and being the recipient of many dad jokes.
Thanks to Wendy for not submitting the divorce paperwork, as was threatened every time I advised her on the aircraft heading, rate of climb and wind speed etc on every aircraft flight.
Thanks to all the relatives in Wrexham who treated us like royalty.
Thanks to our Danish family for accommodating us and taking us everywhere.
And a big thanks to Lee Davies for the most generous gift of the Wrexham FC shirt!

More relics from wars gone by. This time it’s the Cold War.
We visited Stevnsfort. The area consisted of an anti aircraft weapons system and an underground bunker system to protect the world from Stalin.
It’s comforting to know that with the end of the Cold War these types of installations are no longer needed…
This place would be perfect to film a James Bond movie.

Our second day on Bornholm was quite a challenge. Mainly due to the numerous beers, schnapps and the three double shot Irish coffees the night before.

Beautiful Copenhagen!
We spent a day exploring the wonders of the Danish capital.
What better way to start than at the B&W engine museum!

With all the beer drinking it was time to get some exercise. Good to be back on a bike. 40 kilometre ride.

Well time to leave France!
A big thanks to our tour guide Tony from Rifleman Tours who not only took us everywhere and gave us insights into the battles, he also stayed up discussing it all over a few pints every night!
Now to head to London to meet Wendy. One hiccup the train we were booked on is canceled due to a strike! Fortunately Tony drove us to Cockfoster(real name). From there we got on the underground.

Saving private Ryan/Band of Brothers/The Longest Day.
Today we visited the American sector of the D-Day landings. Lots to see here and so many stories still to be told. We saw so much and visited two of the 200+ museums that exist here!
That’s a lot of gift shops.

I think needing surgical tongs to touch them put us off. Gavin insisted that they were for dogs, I wasn’t so sure!

So we left Wrexham and headed to Cambridge.
Best known for its legendary university, Cambridge is one of the most famous cities in merry England. With greenery galore and beautiful old buildings as far as the eye can see, it's a popular getaway-spot for Brits and tourists alike…but we drove straight past it and went to Duxford aircraft museum!

Well its sad to say that our time in Wrexham has come to an end!
So what are you going to do now to entertain yourself on Facebook?
Don’t despair because there’s more to come! Next we take on England, France and then Denmark!
In the meantime I’ll leave you with a selection of random shots from the last 3 weeks!

Have you ever had one of those nights where you just decide to go out and have a couple of pints of beer at the local pub, then the next thing you know you’ve been recruited by the Wrexham Football Club?
I believe I was head hunted by Ryan Reynolds himself!

Now for the truth!

Let me introduce my new best mate Lee.
After having a couple of pints with the locals, Lee started talking football. He’s a passionate Wrexham supporter. I said I had hoped to get hold of an official Wrexham shirt to take back to Australia but there’s no stock in town. He put his pint down and disappeared out the pub. 15 minutes later he was back with a shirt for me!
He wouldn’t take anything for it and just stipulated that I wear it with pride!
What a generous gift!
Everyone I have met in the time I’ve been in Wrexham have been so welcoming. This gesture though has blown me away!
What a way to end my visit to Wrexham!
I will definitely be wearing it with pride! Thanks Lee

Third castle visit in one day!
Well they say all good things come to an end and they did for King Edward at Beaumaris! With Conwy, Caernarfon and Harlech all done he thought he’d go one better with Beaumaris. Unfortunately he’d over stretched the budget and then got himself sidelined with suppressing Scots up north ! The end result was his castle to end all castles never got completed!

The second castle today was Caernarfon.
Old King Edward really lifted the game in castle building with this baby!
47 years in the making and £25,000(about the same as you’d need for a deposit on a small flat today).
Continuing his obsession with suppressing the Welsh, Edward wanted somewhere to start breeding his own royals in Wales.
In 1284 at this incomplete castle, Queen Eleanor gave birth to the first Prince of Wales. Not surprisingly he was named Edward!
I believe king Edward copped some abuse from Eleanor for not having completed the nursery in time!

Today’s challenge was to visit 3 major castles(because you can never see too many castles).
First on the list is Harlech castle. Built in 1283 as part of king Edward’s master plan to dominate Wales. Thinking ahead of his time he realised the value of realestate with a good view. Unfortunately he didn’t consider the car parking issue!

Yesterday we were privileged to be given access to the roof of the Parish Church of St.Giles, Wrexham.
Through my aunties connections with this church we were offered a visit to the tower.
The tower was built in 1506 and is 135 feet high. This has got to be the best view in Wrexham!

Ever since I got to Wrexham this guy seems to be stalking me!
I guess he just wants to cash in on my fame. I’ve tried to engage him in conversation, but to be honest he just seems a little bit 2 dimensional to me!

Sorry I have been neglecting castle visits lately. We were able to slip this one in after our little walk up to Yr Wyddfa. We really appreciated the extra steps!

Castle Dolbadarn in Llanberis.
The original prince of this castle passed away in 1240. His grateful grandchildren, in dispute of the inheritance, decided to wage war against each other!
Eventually it was resolved by the youngest son imprisoning his oldest brother in the castle for 22 years. Ahh… you gotta love family feuds!

The moment I thought I was seeing the last of Gavin on Yr Wyddfa!
