NEW on the BLOG: It’s been a minute but this Curaçao Travel Guide was a must because I had so much to share on where you can go, eat, and stay on the island!

It was an absolute pleasure to finally visit this colorful and culture-filled destination with Caribbean Airlines and the Curaçao Tourism Board!

I saw, did, learned, and ate so many wonderful things that I might have missed had I gone on my own so I’m eternally great for the opportunity and hope this guide helps you discover some of the special experiences the island has to offer!

Curaçao is known as a colorful island with tons of photo ops, but it's much more than that. Here's what you need to know to plan your visit!

DINNER ON THE SWAMP:

Every once in a while things just fall into place for the perfect experience and the dinner cruise with Winston Nanan's Caroni Bird Sanctuary Tours is one such occasion.

I came across a video of the tour on my feed and shared it with a casual "Who wants to do this with me?" And almost immediately, a handful of ladies (some I hadn't seen since the pandemic hit, some I hadn't seen in years, some I didn't even know) responded and within a couple days we made a reservation!

I've dined on rivers, lakes, and seas but I had no clue what to expect of an evening on a swamp.

Despite seeing the video and reading an article about the tour, I was a little wary because I knew the boats weren't configured for this type of excursion and even though I had visual references I wasn't sold on it being the most comfortable experience.

Fortunately, this was one of those instances where reality exceeded expectations by leaps and bounds and miles!!!

From our knowledgeable, affable and hilarious guide, Lester, who put us at ease from the moment he began speaking and kept us laughing throughout the tour...to the incredible menu with some seriously delicious food that was served piping hot...to the breathtaking site of tens of thousands of brilliant scarlet ibis coming in to roost...to the company of some truly incredible women...the evening was amazing.

Quick notes on what you need to know:
- Private dinner tours can accommodate up to 14 people.
- Cost varies depending on the number of people but with a full boat we paid $300/person.
- The package includes a 3-course meal and non-alcoholic beverages. There are several menu options to choose from and you can bring your own alcohol.
- The tour is fun but also very educational as the guides make sure to point out any species they see and explain their specific role in the swamp's ecosystem.
- The tour lasts approximately 2.5 hours.
- No. Music. Allowed. It's a protected area and the experience is best enjoyed in peace and quiet anyway.
- It gets chilly after sunset so walk with a sweater/hoody for the latter part of the evening.
- Insect repellent is a must. Apply generously and reapply as needed.

I don't spend a lot of time exploring Trinidad but I'm trying to be better...and this tour with Winston Nanan was the best motivator. There are soooo many beautiful things to see and do on both of our islands and if nothing else, I appreciate that this pandemic has made so many of us seek out new experiences within our borders.

Many many many thanks to Lester, his First Mate and Winston Nanan Tours. This concept was a stroke of brilliance and a welcome addition to Trinidad's tourism product! I'm very much looking forward to trying out the breakfast cruise next!!!

It's been a while but sometimes silence is golden. I've been stagnant for so long it felt like there was nothing to share but this weekend I am enjoying a truly off the grid staycation up in the hills of Paramin and it's so far removed from everything I'm accustomed to it actually feels like a foreign land.

Here are just a few pics of the most adorable cabin!

🏝️ LET'S TALK STAYCATIONS 🏝️
Good news: we will travel again. Providing we now, we'll emerge from this unscathed and ready to fly. But do we need to do so as soon as we get the all-clear?
NB: There is no "right" answer to that question. However, let's ponder for a minute the implications of making our first post-pandemic escape a staycation.
🏢 Support local businesses:
Small businesses are suffering now, especially those in the tourism industry. How awesome would it be to contribute to our local economies by booking a room at a locally owned boutique hotel, dining out at family-run restos, and patronising local tour operators?
🗾 Learn about your country:
Once this is over, we would have spent weeks, maybe even months 😐🤦🏿‍♀️ grounded in our houses, but many of us still aren't intimately familiar with our homeland. So, before we venture off to explore foreign lands, why not take some time to experience some of the things that make our own countries awesome?
👯 More the merrier:
It would have been a while since we'd have seen family and friends. How incredible would it be to make our first trip a reunion? Keeping in mind that not everyone may be in a position to afford an international getaway, a staycation may be the most feasible option.
My campaign for staycations aside, please know that when this is all over, we should all do what we need to do, go where we need to go, and be who we need to be, to feel whole again.
Until then...stay inside and stay safe!!! 🙏🏾

NEW on the BLOG: Your Favourite Dine-in Restaurants doing Delivery in Trinidad

I've been quiet in this space because...honestly, what do you say at a time like this? However, I noticed some of our favourite dining destinations are offering delivery and curbside pickup, so I thought it was useful to share for those who might find comfort in having access to some of these conveniences from our pre-pandemic lives.

Just please remember: practice proper hygiene, observe social distancing and

T&T may be in lockdown mode but some of our favourite dine-in restaurants are still open for business, offering curbside pick-up and delivery service.

🎶 People live a thousand lives and never feel this free...🎶

How do you really explain Trinidad Carnival to those who haven't experienced it??? There are no words...

Just imagine the happiest, most exhilarating, most jubilant, most uninhibited moments of your life. All combined. Then multiply that by infinity. And maybe you'll come close to understanding what it feels like to be in your costume on the road surrounded by thousands of equally excited people who are just sooo HAPPY to be experiencing every single moment!!!!

🎶 Can you feel the love that's in the air!?! 🎶

I honestly wasn't sure what to expect playing with since it's a much smaller band than Tribe and I didn't know as many people there but from the vibes, to the service, to all the extra space, to the COSTUME, it was perfection!!!

My mini crew had a TIME on the road!!!! We are now officially "Bliss People" and we'll be back next year!!!!
